  1. Foreigners worship, say, Orlanth or Yelmalio. Some weird foreign god who likes horses, icky, but, whatever... I can easily see subtleties and compromises there. Broo largely worship Malia or Thed, who are two thirds of the freaking Unholy Trio. Big difference.
  2. Gloranthan gods are totally real, worshippers know for an absolute fact that they are real, and know that they will be punished or rewarded for their actions. Gloranthans (in this case, Praxians, who include lots of Storm Bulls) are pragmatic and will often ally with chaos. Its difficult to accept both of these... I conclude that #2 is false, one of many totally natural missteps made in the long and wonderful development of Glorantha.
  3. I (and our RQ group) agree with you 99.9%. Take it up with Jeff and others at Chaosium.
  4. With our Eurmali PC, whenever he visits a new town or city I (the GM) call for a Eurmali Lore, or perhaps Devotion, to locate a shrine and ask about rune spells.
  5. As I understand things, Praxian - Broo alliances happen frequently. (This factoid shocked our old-timey Glorantha group, but I don't think we played much of the Praxian material) Chaos isn't the ultimate evil. Chaos serving your opponent is.
  6. My strong belief is that most adults will gladly initiate for 1 POW, if only to get Heal Wound, since that pretty much covers catastrophic health care. Maybe that's cause I'm American and feel the lack of that IRL. Not to mention D.I. and a better mystic connection to their clan and god. They need not have 3 rune points or skills near 90% - the character creation rules are for PCs.
  7. We've played with "Draconic Stuff" in our RGQ campaign. At least, some of the PCs. (A couple of others are following an Arkati path). A few of us have a decent (~20%) Speak Draconic, and my Vinga Wind Lady has a tiny Dream Dragon "Little Wing" <Insert Jimi Hendrix Guitar Riff Here> as her allied spirit. However, without any real official material, so far we are punting / ignoring some of the questions, making stuff up, and eagerly awaiting upcoming material on Illumination and so forth. @Nick Brooke Thanks for the reminder - guess I should get a copy of Company of the Dragon. Or at least convince our other GM (we alternate GMs) to get a copy, since he'd be "running" that part for my PC and the other interested PC.
  8. Shiningbrow has been very clear, at least as I read it, that he (?) wants Heroquest rules. I agree with him that Chaosium is focusing on bringing in new players. And I agree with Chaosium on that strategy. It's slightly disappointing to us old timers, but it makes good sense.
  9. So, the cult that actually emphasizes spear (Yelmalio) doesn't get True Spear, and the cult that emphasizes horses and archery does? Give Catseye to Elmal and there is almost no reason at all for any PC to ever join Yelmalio. I already doubt that many sane PCs would join the nerfed RQG Yelmalio cult compared to svensson's version of Elmal.
  10. You can make the same argument for many cults. "People get wounded, need crops blessed, and face oathbreakers in distant villages. Therefore Chalana Arroy, Ernalda, and Babs Gor need horse (or mobility) magic... That said, Elmal traditionally had horsey stuff for some reason, so it's reasonable to continue the tradition.
  11. Not sure why the "Loyal Thane" needs to have horsiness, Fire, and archery, especially when Yelmalio has little or none of them. Elmal should have loyal and Thaney things ..
  12. The Lunar book. Partly for cults for opponents or rivals, mainly for rules on becoming and being Illuminated.
  13. You would like my Colymari, who is always ranting about "those asshole Malani".
  14. Given that the Earth Rune is not noted as being greedy or hungry (that's Darkness), nor is there any gravity myth at all (at least, that I've heard of in 40+ years, tell me more of it if there is one, citing a source!) it's clear to me that the whole "No Physics in Glorantha" argument is baseless hogswallop. Don't think I've ever used that word - feels good!
  15. @Ian Cooper Interestingly, our timeline will also include stealing the Red Cows. but from the Cinsina. Your concept that because all the Telmori heirs are dead, it's not "kinstrife" so it's legal for Argrath to order the killing of the other Telmori and wipeout an entire Tribe of Sartar, is very, well, cynical and somehow very Argrathy! BTW, I haven't played 11L, who is it that kills off the Telmori heirs? My inner cynic / conspiracy theorist thinks some of it is Argrath or his cronies. 🙂
  16. The rules are vague here. We ruled that one could also Sing / Dance etc. for 2 rounds. And you can always try a rune: Moon should work. Most GMs might allow others. Normally, one cannot do both Sing AND a Rune. Only one augment. Occasional GMs might be liberal and allow both. (Added clarification) TL;DR One can do ritual preparation of some length the GM must limit, and then take a "couple" of rounds, again determined by the GM, to augment with Sing or Dance. One can do ritual preparation of some length the GM must limit, and then invoke an "appropriate" Rune or Passion to augment via Inspiration. Moon works, as might others at the GM's determination. One cannot combine the augments from Sing and a Rune. Unless the GM agrees that this is a truly special place to go beyond the rules. RQG has a lot of vague rules where you need a good, or at least a consistent, GM to rule. I think this is deliberate design decision, and many consider this flexibility a good thing.
  17. For the record, I came up with the reason for our version of Glorantha. Argrath believes that the Telmori hold a key part of the Regalia of Sartar: the Jewel of Sartar. Without it, he cannot light the Flame of Sartar and become Prince and do all his heroic stuff to come. The Telmori rejected attempts by his inept diplomats to acquire it peacefully, and now war is coming. Our recent RQG campaign summary: http://gloranthagame.pbworks.com/w/page/152480676/Storm Season 1627 Session 2
  18. Now going way way OT. Our RQG group completely dropped all these 10% tithes, because they were so open to these tax avoidance schemes. A PC is carrying 1000s of lunars in armor, weapons, gems and magic, but only 47L cash. Classic Murder Hobo crap. Especially since one of our players is a business lawyer IRL, it just seemed extremely MINIMUM GAME FUN. We also do little training for similar reasons. Boring and often munchkinnery.
  19. Our last RQG session there was a fleeting reference to a six fingered Telmori who killed one of our PC's parents. 🙂
  20. The best reason to distrust Orlanthi is that they don't like dogs. Reveals their inner character better than any myth.
  21. Sever Spirit is banned. At least, it was in the Herowars era publications. A good call.
  22. As a bit of a followup to my own question, I could really see this becoming like chess openings. A bunch of Humakti are sparring at temple, and boasting of their previous duels: "Of course, I opened with the Ruy Lopez, best by test! Alain countered with the Deferred Steinitz defense (each of these meaning some combination and order of rune spells and spirit magic named after a previous Humakt Hero). My Ally launched the Duras variation".
  23. I agree that it's a great account. However, it too is confusing: it contradicts the rules for fighting to "First Blood". Naimless was clearly wounded first (when her shield was sheared away), since, afterwards, "Naimless used Healing to put her fingers back in place".
  24. We've run a lot of Humakti Duels, but always with "no magic allowed". Pretty simple. The disputants whack each other until somebody misses a parry, crits, or whatever. With magic allowed, especially with Allied Spirits, it's hard to imagine all the possible tactics. Should the quickest draw (highest DEX) just cast an attack spell for a roughly 50% chance of a win? (Or Thunderbolt, if they have it, for a sure win?) Does it just become an accounting battle of stored magic points for your casting of Sword Trance? If anybody has actually run some of these, between high level combatants, any tips, "action replays", etc. would be appreciated. @soltakss? Thanks.
