  1. Someone before mentioned another BRP related system (Runemaster? or was it the SPQR?) having disads in it. Id find some similar system with disads and just translatet them over. I also think the Pulp Cthulhu book coming out is having a similar thing added to it.
  2. During my breaks while typing up Rifts BRP stuff, Ive been readign the Warhammer Monthly Presnts graphic novels I have been able to find (Inquisitor Ascendent, Daemonhunter and Kal Jerico stuff), while the first two are more or less Inquisition based stories and fit in Dark Heresy fairly well, it is the Kal Jerico books that have caught my imagination. A Necromunda setting for BRP. Now naturally Necromunda should probably be done as a RPG with Dark Heresy as its influence, but I find it is a lot easier to cut and paste from the MRQ SRD to write new material work on a game PDF for a non SRD/OGL system and MRQ is close enough to BRP for a very good start (especially with GORE out there). I guess my question or comment is, has anyone done Necromunda as a RPG and is it a different enough feel/setting to warrant its own works?
  3. What think is very keen for BRP is that a lot of the support material that is slated on its way is fan created (with help from Charlie and Dustin of course) so as long as Chaosium keeps the fans involved there will be supplements available. Plus Im sure they have a few instore themselves. Im looking forward to Pulp Cthulhu and the Morocco book. Now Cthulhu is its own game, but it is BRP at heart and I imagine they will update all their books to go with BRP as the main book or reference. Anyway, I believe BRP has along future ahead of it. Now I would like to see some sort of customizable GM screen.
  4. Yeah, my Rifts work Im doing right now is pretty blatant IP infringement. Im using the actual fluff and pics from the book for my PDF, but its for personal use, I did purchase the Rifts books Im basing it on and using for the conversion and I have no intention of distributing it other then with members of my gaming circle so they can read the rules and what not. But for personal reasons I want it to look as professional and "real" as possible, not just a typed up conversion sheet. Over the next year I plan to do similar things with all my favorite sci-fi fantasy horror gothic RPGs (Mutant Chronicles, Dark Heresy, Dragon Star, Fading Suns). Maybe even XXVc. It passes the time while I live in a uber expensive foreign nation
  5. While working on psionics today I did go ahead and decide to use the RR table.
  6. Thats actually where I am stumped on my current Rifts conversions (well, that and how Im workng MDC). Am I going to use MRQ Pesistance/Resistance or the BRP resistance table?
  7. I have a suggestion. Finish the main rules and PDFs first, include a sampel bestiary of must haves, such as Orcs, Trolls, Wolves, Bandits, Dwarves, Elves and so forth and then release the creatures as a separate PDF. I say this because it looks like you are going to have 200 pages of monsters or so and that makes a hefty PDF on its own, but added to the rest of the material, yikes! But great work.
  8. Im leaning toward body building being some special skill that is used when the character attempts to increase his STR, CON or DEX. As for the Hand to Hand variants, Im thinking of just adjusting the variety of what they can do. For example, Basic is just brawl (ie punch/kick), that does 1D3 damage and can not crit. Expert is brawl that does 1D4 damage and can be used to parry melee attacks. Martial Arts works like expert but does 2D3 damage on a crit. As for MDC armor, Im thinking of them having really high armor values with penetrating damage being halved.
  9. Im not arguing that. It just ets me riled up as I flip through the book working on a character or adventure and I see these stats and just shake my head.
  10. True, but in that case, IMHO, they should just not list his stats. As we learned form the Deities and Demigods AD&D book, "If it has stats, we can kill it!" In the basic core rules for Star Wars no major character stats are posted, just general and generic templates, archtypes and lesser "made up for the game" which is fine. And you are right, gaming emulates the novel, only, IMNSHO, this one does not do it well. D6 Star Wars did. Stormbringer 5th doesnt.
  11. In that case the 880% should be listed under the Stormbringer entry not Elric's. And with your explanation, Elric's player must be the worst roller in the world. I understand the Deus Ex Machina concept of writing and even gaming, but the fact is the Stormbring RPG presents stats and entries that do not match up with the setting and source material. You can include and entry under Stormbringer that states something like "Stormbringer's powers wax and wane as it pleases and desires. A wielder the the chaos blade can have anywhere from a -30 to a +200 to his/her combat skill and may have his or her damage altered by up to 10D10 in either direction (bonus or penalty) depending on how chaotic the act is, how much the act furthers the swords ambitions and whether or not Stormbringer feels like being a boon or a bane at the moment. The maximum and minimum benefits and drawbacks are tied directly to the wielders allegiance to Chaos and or Law as provided by blah blah blah blah" Sure it may seem like a different set of characteristics, but it fulfills the McGuffin angle and Deus Ex Machina abilities of the sword without giving a "definitive" set stat. Of course this is all my own opinion. Ill just stick with the MRQ Elric version. I was just stating my observations.
  12. I think the general rule they enforce is posting web pages or pdfs converting their setting and systems. They cant just come ot my house in a middle of a game and say "no, roll the D20 bitch!"
  13. Hi all, working on some RIFTS BRP conversion rules. Most of the simple work is easy, just transfer skills directly over, realign attributes to corresponding characteristics and so forth. Im having three major issues. 1. Various Hand to Hand skills. I want to keep that generic and general Palladium flavor of various hand to hand types, but need to figure out a system to distinquish between Hand to Hands Basic, Expert, Martial Arts and Assassin. Much like how Martial Arts works in conjunction with Brawl (or kick/punch in Call of Cthulhu) I want these skills to do the same. Basic increases the damage to 1D4, expert increases damage to 1D4 and can parry without taking damage, Martial arts does the 2D3 damage (as in Call of Cthulhu) or something along those lines. What do you all think. 2. Physical Skills. Some physical skills on the Rifts Skill Lists dont really move over to % based well. So Im thinking Running can be used to temporarily run faster on a successful % check, wrestling works with grappling (duh), boxing with punching (duh, but needs to be different then the hand to hand skills) and so forth, but what does Body Building do? 3. Mega Damage.... I dont like the 1 MDC to 100 HP conversion, I want Mega Damage weapons to be deadly, but not instant death by vaporization as in Rifts, if you arent MDC Protected. Im thinking MDC attacks ignore NON MDC armours and the first die of damage is always maxed and so forth. Any ideas and suggestions will be appreciated. If you are wondering, I am currently converting over the Coalitions weapons, OCCs and setting and hope to test play a scenario next weekend.
  14. Yeah and everyone has a demon weapon, unlike the novels. I think if the reason for the 880% was for multiple attacks and parries, then they should have used a different game mechanic. As it is, with 880% that mist gian, as written lasts one round. Lets Say Elric hits with no critical. His max damage is 198 (2D8+1D6+17D10+1D6) for lets say an average damage of 99. Halved for the special defenses of the mist giant and you inflict 49.5 (so either 49 or 50 points) of damage against the mist giants HP equal to its CON of 47. You are sacrificing the one on one battle flavor in exchange for mass combat effects. It would make more sense to have Stormbring have special defense benefits instead of such a high attack bonus. Say something like "Stormbringer only suffers a -5% per each additional parry it takes in a round instead of the normal -30%". Im just saying, the RAW make the game very unapproachable to me. And I hate to say it, but MRQ Elric seems more in line with what I would imagine the Melnibone setting being like, stat wise. Course the Chaosium books do have some good background material in them that I will still use, just not stats.
  15. I recently took some of the recommendations about SB5th Edition and bought the game and have been reading it, alongside reading Michael Moorcocks Elric stories. Who wrote this game? 880% for Elric weilding Stormbringer. 17D10 damage. You ahve got to be kidding me. Having read 4 of the stories now, Id give him no more then a 80% with the weapon and people survive hits from Stormbringer on a regular basis (granted, not all human, but given their stats the sword should kill everything on a single hit). The stats are so ridiculous that the background material in the books is barely noticed as I keep glancing at these outrageous and inaccurate stats. Were all editions of the game like this? Does anyone play it at this level? DO you houserule the stats and abilities? Rant over.
  16. Welcome aboard Paladin3970. I have heard a few folks here talking of starting up a PBP game, Im sure they will bombard you soon enough. Good choice on BRP as well. I believe there are one or two post apocalypical settings in the works here as well. I will quickly get this out of the way (Dark Heresy) and there it goes. LOL. If you are still waiting to get BRP in the mail check out Goblinoid Games for their game GORE it is a very basic version of BRP and its free. They also do Labyrinth Lord if you are really into old school D&D dungeon crawls. But BRP is the perfect place for beginners (and super experienced) as there are many settings and books available and the rules are flexible and amendable to suit the individual campaign and GM. Take Care, PK
  17. There are just some settings out there that I have an interest in but hate the current systems. Dragon Star for example. Dark Sun (thanks for reminding me of that). Fading Suns. And while I overall like Dark Heresy (I give it a B+) I may like it more if it were BRP based. As for Rifts, I really like the core setting (Coalition, and the first 4 or so books). It just everything else I despise about the setting and game. And I hate level systems.
  18. I have a few Dark Heresy fanmade articles, each about 4-8 pages long.
  19. What (if any) pre-existing game settings do you use the BRP rules with instead of the existing rules for that setting? I've heard (er read) people mention (er write about) BRP Rifts, BRP A/State, BRP Fading Suns and we have seen samples of BRP Middle Earth are th ere any others and do you have write ups for them? I would love to see a BRP Rifts PDF (if Palladium doesnt want to see it, thats their issue) and BRP Fading Suns PDF or even Dark Heresy as BRP. I am beginning to hate BRP for all the ideas and creativity and motivation it gives me. Unfocused and unregulated I will start three dozen projects and finish none before the next shiny idea spats me in the face.
  20. I am so looking forward to MEBRP! I am curious as to how you plan to do the PDF layout? Will there be art and coulmns and tables and charts, or will it just be a text document? EDIT: Guess I should have looked at the samples first! LOL
  21. Need.... More.... Info....
  22. Critical hits would disregard the normal hit location rules. If you get a critical you simply ignore the implied hit location result and generate a new one when tallying damage. Or you can do what I normally do. With HP being so low anyway, I tend to just not use the critical/impale rules.
  23. Anyone have this book? Is it good? What are its high points and low points? Is it worth the $18 on Amazon?
  24. Ive been planning on using the Dark Heresy/Warhammer Fantasy Role Play hit location rules/chart. You just flip the roll. If you rolled a 41 to hit then the target is hit in the 14 and so forth. If you have the chart on your GM's screen it doenst slow down play at all.
