  1. It actually a very simple matter. If they dont make books the system will strangle itself out and cease its run. BRP will falter, it will go away and people will go to Mongoose or other systems instead of buying BRP, afterall why put $40 into a book that sees no support and the only publications come from fans who submit work to be published by Chaosium? Its not like Steven King is writing Mongographs, or even Dan Abnett. Its god damn CS Barnhart, whoever that is. (Thats me btw). Whereas I can go buy MRQ, they still make books, they have a OGL so other companies make books for them and its nearly 100% compatible with BRP and CoC games (and if you think not, then you probably dont think water and ice are compatible either). Of if the make books, or lease the system, they risk losing money as well as making money. If by some means they make Star God of Anchorage Alaska: The Role Playing Game! and they sell a bazillion copies an dit is only half decent, they make a fortune and are considered industry geniuses and collect an Origins Award (afterall, who really cares about the Ennies?). But if they get the license to Terminator: War of Tomorrow (A RPG of Man against Machine) and it is well written, beautiful books and it totally flops, then they are considered a horrible company. So they either die without a fight or they die a gruesome horrible death with a fight, but just might come out on top. So the issue isnt a licensed title or not, its any title. Something unique that will get books sold. Not Cthulhu in Space or Cthulhu and the Holy Grail, or Cthulhu Steam Punk, or Cthulhu Cyber Punk, or Cthulhu Civil War or even Cthulhu Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer. Something new, something unique. And I dont think Fantasy is going to cut it, after all Stormbringer, Elric, Elfquest, and others havent made it for Chaosium in years. However, Planetary may be the way to go. A lite Sci-fi setting based on the 1920s style of that genre. Heck yeah, I am still waiting for that book to come out. But I also think the vagueness of BRP is hurting the sales or new material. Sometimes you want hard defined rules, sometimes you dont, BRP really never gives you any. But only time will tell, and im here waiting to see what goes next.
  2. Ive been having similar feelings and problems with my Fading Suns and Dragon Star conversion games. Since both games are D20 and level systems, its hard to judge how and when a character is allowed to certain class abilities and feats. I decided at first to take a MRG-like approach with Heroic Abilities. But really, since BRP doesnt really use a XP system I find that to be too arbitrary and never really feel players are willing to sacrifice the notion of Hero Points on small flavor advantages or feats.
  3. It seems they are betting on having the majority of their books be monographs and charge full price for the books they only spend $250 to sell. Kind of making me a bit ticked at the moment. I know B'61 isnt exactly the best thing in the world, but I did spend time and money on it, more then the $250 I got for it and I am not asking for anykind of praise or extra money or anything, but I dont want it to be there by it self as one of the new monographs. In the 7 months since BRP came out there should have been at least 3 in house books. Economy or no economy. Even Dark Heresy, which changed companies, has put out 5 books in the past year, with a 6th one due next month and given out free PDFs. Honestly, updates of Superworld and Futureworld could be done quite easily, or so I assume. But Im willing to stick it out with them for a while longer. Mainly cause I really like the system and the people, they are nice and informative and polite.
  4. Chaosium was advertising this product for Nov of last year, did it ever come out?
  5. Im not sure exactly how the PDF sells work for the authors. But supposedly Im to be paid for every 500 copies of a book sold. Im not sure if that includes PDFs or not. So yes, please save yourself money and buy PDFs, but as a mono-author, I do appreciate physical sales. :thumb: Good thing I dont do it for the money, but the babes.
  6. Thanks. Now to get off my lazy ass and write something new. But Ive been so busy with work, schools and the war that I just dont have the time, and when I do have time that damn Dark Heresy takes over my life.
  7. I know many people have done some translation work for BRP rules for various settings and this is an old topic, however I wanted to speak of it again. Im about 80% done with BRP/Mongoose OGL version of Rifts and approximately ate 20% for Fading Suns and AT-43. I havent started yet on Mutant Chronicles or Dark Sun, but thought of it LOL. (This is what happens when your fiance lives on another cotinent, you get bored and write alot). So I guess my question is, has anyone done anything on those settings that I may see?
  8. Totaly prefer dead tree. But waiting for new dead trees from Chaosium, is ridiculously long wait.
  9. I agree with Atgxtg. I plan on using BRP for a Watchman style campaign in the near future.
  10. I found that to be ok when I ran Farscape D20. Any class/race was allowed from any book, from any line. But they had to follow Farscape D20 general rules. I also find that acceptable as it allows for pirates to be different and not the same everytime. As far as a balanced party or rules, as long as you arent using point buys for everything then it should be quite balanced. If you make the points for spells/miracles and what not come out of skill points you will see fighters being better well rounded then wizards. Then add in a bit of that evil magic flavor from Cthulhu or Stormbringer and it is well balanced and fun. Thats the great thing about BRP is you can do virtually anything and you have some very good examples out there to look at.
  11. Yes it can. BRP was designed originally as a fantasy setting, was it not? Hello RuneQuest.
  12. I usually retain the 2D6+6 for SIZ but not INT. Just a personal preference. But I also prefer 4D6 drop the lowest dice and arrange stats as you wish. If I allow this for SIZ once SIZ is assigned it must be at least an 8.
  13. We should have a fan based contest award. If anyone here is up for judging a contest and setting up guidelines for it. Id be interested in that. Perhaps house the winning PDFs on this site or on lulu? PK
  14. You would definately need to find a license to hitch BRP Supers to first to get it noticed. Perhaps Robert Kirkman's Invincible or Erik Larsens Savage Dragon or even MacFarland's Spawn would work. Ive always liked the idea of a Lovecraftian Supers game, using elements from Stormbringer, Superworld and Call of Cthulhu. Could be great fun, sort of Dr. Strange, Ghost Rider, Spectre, Vertigo, Spawn setting or style. Course if you do it wrong it becomes a Powers Ranger feeling game and if dead wrong, it becomes Bible Man. But might be worth a look at.
  15. I prefer Superworld over M&M, but if I am to play any form of supers, its DC/Blood of Heroes. Accept no substitute. You could use the RQ OGL rules and M&M Superlink to create a interesting hybrid of BRP and M&M. Chaosium still sells the Superworld PDFs I highly recommend them if your intent is to use BRP for super hero games.
  16. If they ever get around to actually paying you, which doesnt seem to be their priority.
  17. I am also greatly interested in this setting. I just hope it isnt as "altered" a historical setting as Deadlands was. I think horror works best (and thus supernatural) when it isnt an everyday thing. Having entire undead armies fight in the civil war kind of makes the supernatural sort of natural or at least acknowledged. A Brisco County style setting is what Id like to see. Kind of like Wild West Call of Cthulhu. "There are Mi Go in those hills."
  18. Well i am going to the Pentagon today and Baltimore tomorrow, so who knows. Mayhaps I can get a BRP game going with the Joint Chiefs.
  19. Dudes I went from Germany to Maryland for "training" only problem is having internet. No head down wishes needed. I love them, but lets save those for the boys who need them (which I may next year). Thanks all the same though.
  20. Im off for some training for a few months, so I will not be on as often I would like. Looking forward to getting back to the conversations and seeing all these wonderful monographs and books in the works. Take care all. PK
  21. Bloody Krampus!!! You mean to tell me all these years there has been a convention in High Point, NC? Me mum lives there and I visit often enough. Grrrr. PK
  22. What con is that? I think its interesting because after seeing Mazes and Minotaurs I was contemplating doing a pseudo Planetary Romance style space-setting based on greek/roman mythos. And bam, here it is already done for me. Just getting to that phase in my gaming career where I want everything to use similar systems. For ease of transition from one game to another. Let me know what you think.
  23. ww.hellasrpg.com just wondering cause I just got the PDF, no real time to read through it but it looks like a cool idea and would be good for a BRP setting.
  24. Was just a suggestion. I think it might be best to combine our theories thought. The (stat/6+1)+(Race Mod/10)=Characteristic. This gives Aragorn a 19 CON, quite respectable. or (stat/6+1)+(Race Mod/5)=Characteristic. This gives Aragorn a 20 CON, even more respectable. As for those over 102, yeah some sort of conversion chart would be needed for that high of a stat. But I did forget the racial modifiers in my conversion thoughts.
