I was idly curious what an amentum might be, so on the basis of my google- and wikipedia-grade research, apparently the Catalan, German, Spanish, Italian and Swedish word for it is "amentum".  I similarly approve of your choice for the French translation.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Greeks_Have_a_Word_For_It  You're very welcome. 🙂

Here's my attempt at the shields:

Spoiler
English Translation
Apron Tablier
Bladed Shield, Small Bouclier à lame, petit
Bronze Shield, Hand Bouclier de bronze, main
Bronze Shield, Small Bouclier de bronze, petit
Hide Shield, Large Bouclier de peau, grand
Hide Shield, Medium Bouclier de peau, moyen
Hide Shield, Small Bouclier de peau, petit
Insect Carapace Shield, Medium Bouclier de carapace d'insecte, moyen
Spiked Shield, Medium Bouclier épié, moyen
Spiked Shield, Small Bouclier à pointes, petit
Turtleshell Shield, Small Bouclier de tortue, petit
Wicker Shield, Extra-Large Bouclier en osier, extra-large
Wicker Shield, Large Bouclier en osier, grand
Wicker Shield, Medium Bouclier en osier, moyen
Wooden Shield, Large Bouclier en bois, grand
Wooden Shield, Medium Bouclier en bois, moyen
Wooden Shield, Small Bouclier en bois, petit

"Bouclier de carapace d'insecte, moyen" is far too long. The english is too long as well so I think I will change that to "Chitin Shield, Medium", and "Bouclier de chitine, moyen".

Arguably the "Insect" qualifier is largely redundant.  (He says, outraging turtle and "arthropod, misc" cultists everywhere.)

Is that the same thing as a "Balester"?  Or is this an actual bow made of actual stone?

Lanyard Dart

I'm seeing the term "Schweizer Pfeil" for that on a couple of iffy-looking pages, but I think they might be brute-force translations of the English Wikipedia page.  "Swiss arrow (also known as a Yorkshire arrow, Dutch arrow, Scotch arrow, or Gypsy arrow)."  Hello, Equality Commission?  I have five ethnic hate crimes in one noun phrase to report...

Use "Weidenschild" instead of "Korbschild" and "Dornenschild" instead of "Stachelschild".

Gonna go out on a limb and say that one's "falx", too!  But before I'm accused of doing nothing but recycle old and weak material, I'll note that Italian seems to have a actual (slightly) distinct term -- falce dacica.

The stone bow is a simple bow (surprise) that throw stones and not arrows. There is a (usually leather) pocket in the middle of the cord where you put the stone.

"Bouclier de carapace d'insecte, moyen" is far too long. The english is too long as well so I think I will change that to "Chitin Shield, Medium", and "Bouclier de chitine, moyen".

Frankly, considering the result, you should not need to ask for translators, at least for french.

In fact, according to the description, it is a light crossbow, which does use stones instead of bolts. So there are some similarities the "Balester", but I'm not sure, if it is really the same.

I'm quoting to put my own gran of sand.

-Hatchet: in peninsular spanish it would definitely be Hacha de Mano, but maybe in some parts of latin america it's called hachuela IDK.

-Pick-axe: is not a pick and and axe but really just the average farm pick, to distinguish it from the "Pico" I would put Zapapico.

-Pole hammer: I would say that's a Lucerne.

-Sword staff: minor nitpick but I would put Espada-Baston.

-Falx: this is a difficult one. The difference between the "falx", the "rhomphaia" and the "sica" is very small and it doesn't help that the falx is usually translated in spanish as "Falcata", which is also what we call here the weapon RQ calls "Kopis", adding to the confusion. In historical matters we can simply say "Falcata dacia" to distinguish it from the regular falcata which for us is obviously the iberian one and be done with it, but you can't mention the dacians in RQ. I would simply go with Falx, but I'm no translator so don't take me too seriously.

-Missile weapon: Arma arrojadiza.

-Stone Bow: I think that's not refering to a bow literally made of stone but to a stone (or pellet) shooting crossbow, kind of like a super-slingshot ("tirachinas" here, but I'm certain that in latin america it's called by a million other names), and in spanish it's usually called Ballesta de Perdigón.

-Landyard Dart: I don't even know what that is supposed to be, let alone translating it.

-Thrown Spike: Púa Arrojadiza

Pretty good, although some of the translations are hard. I am not an expert on German terms for ancient weaponry, doing too much of my reading in English language... Still, I added my varying or disagreeing terms in bold italic in the quote above. A few I disagreed with after looking at the accompanying illustration I used strike-through on.

"Pick" is a tricky one because most languages seem to use the same word for a pick as for a pickaxe. I went with small and large suffixes for German.

The pick is a digging tool, so the German term "Hacke" applies. The pick-axes aren't digging tools, which disqualifies the term "Hacke" as far as my understanding goes.

The pick-axes depicted appear to be verticallly bladed hand axes, possibly with a slightly heavier blade. All seem to be good combination tools to cut and possibly sharpen logs or poles, but not for shaping planks. (But then, that would be adzes in English.) If these axes have a blunt head or a thorn on the other side, they might be called for the hybrid function - Axthammer or Dorn-Axt. Rather than "groß/klein", I think German would use "schwer/leicht".

In fact, according to the description, it is a light crossbow, which does use stones instead of bolts. So there are some similarities the "Balester", but I'm not sure, if it is really the same.

I don't know about this one, and still don't have the book, so I can't help. Sorry

I've worked through @PhilHibbs's approach to a German translation and changed translations, which seemed wrong from my perspective either with a (hopefully) more correct translation or with the existing translation from the German version of RuneQuest:Roleplaying in Glorantha (where not yet correct already). I've also used @Joerg's review of my first proposal (thanks for that!) to change some of my original translations, when I thought. that Jörg's proposal may be more correct. But similar to him I'm not an expert on German terms for ancient weaponry, and this is quite a difficult topic, so you have to take that with a grain of salt.

Changes to the original translation proposal have been marked in red.

I did not really understand, what the entries starting with OH (e.g. OH Broadsword), so I'm not sure how to transfer them correctly into German ...

Ah sorry "OH" means "Off-hand", using the weapon in your secondary hand. I added those so that people could track two different skills with different base chances.

I'll adopt all these, except for the weapons that are in the core rulebook as I think that the translations that I have are the official ones (please correct me if I'm wrong, e.g. Schlachtschwert vs Zweihänder).

If and when an official A&E translation comes out, I will ask again for someone to provide me with updates!

*EDIT* Actually... I'm beginning to doubt the accuracy of the existing core rules weapons, I had "1H Short Spear" with the same exact name in German. Something's wrong!
