MrHemlocks Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 "Alephtar Games is pleased to announce a follow-up to its award-winning game Rome: Life and Death of the Republic, a historical setting for Chaosium’s Basic Roleplaying Game. This new supplement, titled Generals and Senators, will be published in late 2011, and contains a grand, elaborate Roman campaign that will span the entire timeline of the Punic Wars as well as additional rules to enhance the gaming experience of role-playing in Republican Rome. The main developer for this sourcebook will be Kenneth Spencer, historian, educator, columnist for rpg.net and a freelance author who has worked for Steve Jackson Games, Chaosium, Frog God Games, and contributed to the Rome: Life and Death of the Republic adventure pack Veni, Vidi, Vici." So, according to the above statement this historical setting will cover the entire period of the Punic Wars...all three of them! That means players will need more then 1 character to play the entire setting? Since the Punic Wars lasted over 100 years players will need mulitple characters to play this supplement??? That stinks:(:( Or am I wrong? http://www.alephtargames.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=62%3Arome-supplement&catid=1%3Alatest-news&Itemid=50〈=en Quote
RosenMcStern Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 (edited) It will include some "generational" aspects. I cannot give you more details at the moment. Due to a general slowdown of our production process, and personal issues on the part of the assigned writer (IndianaKen), it will not be published in 2011 as planned. But it should be out in 2012. That stinks:(:( Well, since it was good enough for the Scipiones, it should be good enough for the characters ... As an alternative, you can always burn the supplement's pages dealing with the one or two wars you dislike the most, and play only the rest. That stinks:(:( Why does it stink? If that's how long the Punic Wars lasted then that's how long they take to play out. However, you could compress them into one big war, or play them as a series of campaigns with different characters for each. Alternatively, you could play the Immortal Centurion, doomed to never die but to always have personal victory torn from his grasp. Agentorange Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I rather like the idea. The notion of playing out the fortunes of several generations of the same family sounds interesting Quote
HierophantX Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Works for Pendragon. Part of the high drama of the Punic Wars is the generational aspect with the Barca and Scipio families, with descendants of of veterans from the first war fighting in the last one. Quote

That stinks:(:( If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it. But you could buy it and use the supplement (and your brain) for a specific period of the Punic wars, and maybe later, if you're still running Rome which I doubt with your attitude, run the later eras of the Punic wars.
