  1. Good cover, although you might want to check the interior previews. They seem to still be showing the standard book (going on the table of contents really).
  2. Same situation is happening in New Zealand, and will probably continue in one level or another till Christmas (when we are hoping to have 90%+ of vaccinations done). It is a shame, but hopefully it can be built up as an idea in the future. I’d actually pay to travel to Australia if the con is good enough. I had to cancel all Chess tournaments too. 😞
  3. I think, in this instance, Mike’s ‘old school’ nature is mostly that he fully immersed in Call of Cthulhu as his primary source of gaming, and other games just satellite that in effect. Nothing wrong with this, of course.
  4. I’d prefer to say ‘Lady’ as a title for a female Knight, and simply note that Pendragon is not a historical recreation, but a historical fantasy - which includes a bit more egalitarian attitudes than was actually the case, historically.
  5. It’s normally been the case that I have ordered from Chaosium with PDF copy which then subtracts from a physical copy cost, which is usually then released a few months later. I think I have signed up for notices already. Can I have clarification that the Starter Set: 1) Is going to include PDF copy? 2) Is an imminent physical release, regardless, and will be sent out straight after payment (not a pre-order)? ta.
  6. The process is called ‘gilding’ and yet it makes the book look really classy.
  7. Oh my God! You’ve gone and included D&D-style bonuses....the last refuge of the critical game designer! 🧐 Seriously though, I do think that APP needs to have more concrete rules surrounding its regular use in a game. Appearance is important to a Knight as it is with any social standing, and I think a Knight’s bearing should have an influence over things like leadership or social skills generally. Maybe this is something that will be looked at in the 6th edition?
  8. Chaosium have a policy of not giving out prospective release dates for upcoming products, on the grounds that they don’t want to rush the quality of the product to meet some arbitrary deadline. Fans tend to demand that. We know it is coming, and probably before the end of 2021. That is about it currently.
  9. I think the biggest shame is that there isn’t any edition of the game in print that still includes the full Call of Cthulhu short story by Lovecraft anymore.
  10. It does look nice. It may just be outside of my budget though as I am holding out for Pendragon. Chaosium ought to win an award for physical design - the RuneQuest Starter Box and now this.
  11. It makes total business sense to maximize the market and if the previous versions of the game still have an appeal, then they are still an asset worth selling. It doesn’t undermine 7E sales to have earlier editions still available. Many gamers own both, some only one or another, but they wouldn’t necessarily buy CoC products at all if their preferred version wasn’t there. Regarding dissatisfaction regarding 7E, I would regard myself as a critic (not going to bring up why again here), but still a customer of it. However, the re-release of the Classic 2E box is not really figured into that criticism as much as I love the idea of having it, but it isn’t a replacement of the current edition. That is, my criticism is more in the line of ‘I think they could have done some things in 7E differently’ rather than hankering over the past.
  12. Oh, well, in that case, maybe it is due to an update or an imminent PDF release of an earlier edition?
  13. To understand that statement you have to quote it in the full context it was written in.
  14. I suspect Cthulhu Britannica London will be a best seller, and it will be interesting as to how it is formatted.
  15. PbtA possibly, but unlikely to be 2D20 as that is a house system for Modiphius. I’m not sure Modiphius would see The Laundry as a likely money spinner for them. To be honest, though, I think part of The Laundry’s appeal was it gave another spin on the Cthulhu Mythos which contrasted nicely with the traditional Call of Cthulhu game. It is what caught the eye. If they converted it to another system, I doubt it would be that much of a financial success.
  16. Ah right. Considering that was a message from 2017, I wouldn’t hold out for anything then. I was just wondering because it was a BRP game, of a Cthulhu-esque set of spy thriller/comedy novels, which might have been an intriguing line for Chaosium to do in the same way Rivers of London is.
  17. Actually, on the matter, would there be any plans to pick up and re-release The Laundry?
  18. That’s a pretty impressive haul of material to republish. Good purchase.
  19. I’ve been waiting for almost a year for this movie to come to New Zealand. I believe it was NZ’s Weta company that provided the effects, so one can only think it is a marketing issue. I note that there has been some criticism from Pendragon fans about whether it sticks completely with the plot of the poem, but I do think that movies are a different medium (and Arthurian tales are usually open to interpretation and cultural adaptation anyway). Regardless, I think any attempt to create an authentic feeling adaptation is something I want to watch. As opposed to a Guy Ritchie adaptation, say.... Here’s hoping the cinematic release comes soon to NZ. Might be the best Authurian adaptation since Excalibur. Possibly.
  20. Along with Dune, this is the major movie I want to see this year.
  21. Yes, can we have a book where we can have knights with super powers - like supersonic flight, elastic limbs and the ability to fire lasers out of the eyes? Ta. 😉
  22. Well, it's a point of semantics really. I think to get it right, and authentic feeling, any game involving playing magicians in the Pendragon world is going to quite different to playing Knights.
