  1. I'll definitely be getting those. I think it's you're using the same rules btw. I do use the word potion to describe everything you make with the skill which is either Craft (Alchemy) or Craft (Potions) in the current version. I guess I'll try to tidy up the text a bit, add a few examples and just post the rules here.
  2. It would indeed. And it should have been the first thing released after the main book, IMO. As long as it contained a reasonable amount of new material, I suspect many of us would have bought it as soon as it appeared. And even if it didn't, updated old stuff would have been fine too.
  3. Very good point, but I'm trying to write this as a generic system, not for a specific setting. I suspect there may not be a better, generic word than Alchemy. My impression is that the word is commonly used to describe anyone who makes magical potions and elixirs. At least in RPGs. It doesn't matter too much as I'm not really writing this for publication anyway, it was more that I had an idea and wanted to see if I could develop it into something useful.
  4. The job title of concoctioner is a little cumbersome, but probably fun to say after a few too many beers. The potential confusion with confectioner is a point in it's favour though. Elixirian just sounds a little to weird :-) This is meant to be a power system so I'd like something analogous to Magic/ Mage and Sorcery/Sorcerer. The easy route is obviously Alchemy/Alchemist but that invites confusion with real alchemical traditions.
  5. I'm working on a set of rules for creating potions (mostly for my own amusement) in BRP but am having trouble with the name. I hesitate to call it Alchemy, Herbalism is much too restrictive, Potions is a bit dull and it's hard to come up with a catchy job title for it. The type of potions will include the usual healing potions, ointment of levitation, elven travel bisquits and so on. So, any good name suggestions?
  6. Looking forward to this, hope things are going well :thumb:
  7. In answer to question 1. Page 190 states that "...if a particular weapon allows for multiple attacks, each successive attack should be at 5 DEX ranks lower than the previous attack." Until you run out of DEX ranks that is. So if you have a DEX of 11 or above you can fire the weapon three times. Multiple attacks with weapons which normally only allow one attack, are allowed if you have a skill above 100 as per p 198. Each attack must be made at an different target in this case.

    Valus

Poor little enlo! they just don't make trolls like they used to Praise unto Nysalor, the Illuminating Light! About Valus, I guess I basically just liked the map But reading a couple of the reviews (some of the links actually did work) it seemed interesting and quite a bit different from most of the D20 stuff (not that I really know). But I'm not going to buy it any time soon.

Lazy kids these days... Different Worlds Publications - Valus Now, that wasn't too hard was it? >:-> Yeah, yeah I know. I should have had a link first time around.

I was browsing the Different Worlds site and this setting caught my eye. Does anyone have it, played it or know anything about it? From my brief look, it looks like it would make a nice BRP setting.
  11. Well, that's a relief. Maybe I should pick up the book after all.
  12. It has? That was the best part of the system! Well, not really but it was a lot fun.
  13. Light Without Shadow, Blade Without Edge Chaosium Inc. Anyone know more?
  14. Essentially you write about 100 words to describe your character. From those you pick out skills, magic, profession, relationships and special items. All these are given a predetermined value that can be raised from a pool of points. You also have Keywords, which are things like your cultural background, profession and magic. So, Troll, Beetle Breeder and Initiate of Gorakikki would fit. Each keyword contains individual skills that fit the keyword, some will be listed but if something new comes up in play that would fit, just add it to the list. It's a lot of fun generating PCs. I haven't seen the new edition, but I gather that hasn't changed much.
  15. Indeed, I'm also looking forward to those. (but Red Mist is surely a sorcery spell)
  16. As penance, perhaps you could stat the Red Mist. Sounds like a fun thing to throw at unsuspecting players. >:->
  17. Quoth Dustin: Edit: Beaten to the punch
  18. I think Vikings was copyrighted Chaosium from the start, not sure about LoN but presumably it'd be the same. I have no idea what the current situation might be though. This just occured to me today for some reason, but with the core RQ3 books available again as PDFs it would be nice to see some of the supplements that actually used those rules (i.e magic) again. Possibly slightly updated. A sort of BRP Classics line And, it wouldn't have to be only RQ, there might be books from other lines I suppose. Or part of them at least, the various Power systems have been mentioned in the past. Which is why I mentioned Vikings and LoN, no Gloranthan or other IP content. Of course, since so much of what Chaosium has done in the past is based on others' IP, there may not be all that much they could re-use. And GM is still available so that's probably something to avoid. Nope, I think I will though.
  19. Idle speculation warning, not to be taken too seriously. Does anyone think our chaotic friends in California are able (legally, never mind the economics) to re-print (or at least make PDFs of) older books from RQ or other games? They'd have to edit texts here and there of course but something similar to what they have done with Superworld (which I assume must have been owned by Chaosium all along) or RQ3. Potential targets could be RQ Vikings and Land of Ninja, the first might work nicely with the upcoming Icelandic book. If possible, what would we like to see? :-)
  20. I have to say that this is exactly how I read it too, and have followed this thread with some bemusement. But that's me - disconnected from the harsh realities of life ;-)
  21. He might come back as a zombie too I suppose. You'd have a lot in common then, drooling, INT 6, missing limbs and whatnot.
  22. I wonder, if Triff played the Trollslayer adventure will he come back to us? >:->
  23. Is anyone planning to blog or otherwise report "live" from Tentacles?
  24. Excellent! New adventures are always welcome.
