  1. I'll just add two comments. There are two different powers systems called 'sorcery'. First there is the one in the Big Gold Book which is taken from the Elric! and Stormbringer games, and secondly there is the one in Basic Magic from Chaosium's third edition Runequest. They work very differently. I don't think any BRP games in the past have had the type of thematic 'schools' of magic you suggest. Runequest use divine magic, where each cult has a set of more or less unique spells, depending on the type of god worshipped as well as some shared by most cults. But you don't get lists of special thematic spells. The best system for that might be Runequest Sorcery (Basic Magic monograph), but you'd have to create the schools yourself. Now, I never really used that version of sorcery myself, but the system has some issues. Essentially, a beginning sorcerer is worthless and it takes a long time to become good. Then he becomes very good indeed. Not everyone agrees, but there have been numerous fixes suggested over the years to make Basic Magic Sorcery a bit more balanced. You should also remember there is nothing preventing a single organisation or person from using more than one power system. A school of Fire Magicians could use Spirit Magic and Sorcery from Basic Magic as well as Magic from BGB if you wanted.
  2. That's very generous. If I do (which is not very likely) decide on trying to do something, it would be as a free pdf or possibly as a submission for one of the adventure contests.
  3. I do have the first two MRQ1 solos and will likely get the others as well. They've been pretty fun, but as they are not made for Classic Fantasy (which is what I wanted) there would be some assembly required to use them for that. Not a huge amount of work, but enough to slow play down a bit. With solos you can't really prepare beforehand Same goes for the old RQ2 Soloquests. Thanks for the tips though guys. What I had in the back of my mind was not that threedeesix should make them (he should make the next CF book ), but someone else, perhaps the guys who made the MRQ1 solos. Not sure what sort of complicated deal that would take though. I'm almost temped to try myself, (probably as a free pdf then) but lack good ideas and skills.
  4. Something that would be fun is a set of soloquest adventures for CF (or BRP in general). I don't have a group to play with with, I do play a lot on various forums but sometimes it's nice to sit down with a fistfull of dice and a sheet of paper too. And before someone shouts "Mythic", I can't quite make it work for me.
  5. I don't see that option. I don't have the book, but I doubt the forum software knows that I see a gray bar, with the menus Thread Tools, Search Threads and Display options (and View First Unread or something similar)
  6. Just a quick thought. Change APP to CHA and base the Faerie Magic on that, use POW for Peasant magic.
  7. CotFE does sound like a great setting. For a more Jogn Carter type of thing there's also Interplanetary and the original thread
  8. Regarding on-line gaming you have basically two basic choices. Play by Email (PbEM) or Play by Post (PbP) is the first. Pros include that everyone can post when they have time, and you often see more actual roleplaying (as a result of people having more time to think things through). Cons include everything taking much longer to resolve and players not posting quickly or frequently enough. This is my famoured way of playing on-line and can be a lot of fun. Good sites for this are rpg.net and rpol.net Your second choice is using a program that allows everyone to play at the same time, called a Virtual Table Top (VTT). There are several, but most include a strategic map you can move 'figs' on, dice rollers, chat and other tools to simlate a face to face game. Battlegrounds, Maptools are popular but there are many more. I have no experience with these so can't really comment. There also a site called scenegrinder.com that looks like a hybrid of PbP and a VTT.
  9. Just FYI, Rogue Mistress is available here on Drivethru
  10. Thanks for the answer Kris. I've started reading the book properly now, and it looks like there are changes to vanilla OQ scattered about so producing it as a separate rule book does make more sense to me now. I haven't got very far, but the setting does seem fun from what I've gleaned in the book and web site. I'll definitely keep my eyes open for new stuff. The fact that it isn't straight Tolkien also appeals to me (much as I love the books) as you get more freedom with a less detaild setting, one that is merely inspired by ME. That's what I usually prefer.
  11. I poked around a little after I posted, and discovered the Crooked Staff site as well. I did mail him, not with any questions really just to mention the game was being discussed here and over at the tavern.
  12. After a quick browse through the pdf, it looks decent enough. I'm not sure if it differs from OQ in any significant way, but I noticed there was no Divine Magic, just sorcery and renamed Common/Battle Magic. Different art, mostly weapons, monster heads and a rather nice looking map. The Creatures chapter looks new, and while there is no chapter on the setting itself the impression is one very reminicent of Middle Earth. My only question would be, why a new game? I think I'd have prefered it as a setting book for OQ, with an included a chapter detailing any changes from standard OQ. But a first quick impression is that it's nice product, more focused for a Tolkienesque game tthan OQ itself.
  13. And for extra adventures and fun stuff, you could always check out the fanzine Tradetalk. Available from this site, there's some other publications there as well.
  14. Another vote for the Gloranthan Classics, they are all a lot of fun. I'm currently playing in a game on rpg.net using Griffin Mountain/ Griffin Island and we're having a blast. We're not using Glorantha though.

Shouldn't The Laundry get a mention somewhere as well?
  16. A Classic Fantasy Scenario Compendium might be an idea.
  17. I agree that the monographs lack focus, but I think that is part of their function; testing the waters. But as Gianni and Agentorange mentioned things are changing. Both Devil's Gulch and Chronicles of Future Earth will be released as proper books, and I undesrstand the latter will have more books as well. The same for Classic Fantasy by threedeesix, which sold well as a monograph. There is also the Laundry coming out soonish from Cubicle 7. I imagine that will get some support material as well. While the Laundry is self-contained and doesn't require the BGB (I gather), it will hopefully interest some players in it.
  18. 'fraid I was. Then I noticed the little Chulhu references. Going by the description I'd guess that is entirely optional. A Chaosium product geared for a loosely supernatural and/or weird setting that didn't have any tentacles somewhere in it seems unlikely.
  19. And yet another book that's not a monograph! Like the cover
  20. I only play PbP these days myself, though I did take part in a fun IRC Herowars/HeroQuest game some years back. But with players on three continents TZ issues were, ah noticeable I've played in several PbEM's as well, but not for a few years now. Forum games seem to work well for me personally. I am not forced to a tight schedule, I can think through what I want to say or do if I want and focus on different things than I can in a "live" game. It's a different beast really. I'm not sure I agree that BRP is unsuited to this mode of playing. One of the most successful and fun games I've been in, with players in Australia, Europe and the US is using BRP. It's not suited to a game that focuses on tactical and gritty detail, but BRP doesn't have to do that. When I mentioned "showcasing", I actually meant running a short scenario or two on a forum.
