  1. it's only a highly political topic because you've made it so. It started of as a gentle expression of condolances from forum member to possibly some others. those members who took it as such could have just said "cheers" those who didn't take it as such could simply shrug, ignore it and move on. Some of us don't think it's a highly political topic - we think it's Svensson being nice. And regardless of our own views we've taken his post in the spirit in which it was offered.
  2. Well, here's the thing, if Nicola Sturgeon or Alex Salmond were to drop dead tomorrow - i wouldn't say anything mean about them. I might be the case that I didn't like them or their politics ( I'm just using this as an example ). But I would understand that to many Scots they were profoundly important figues, either politically or historically. that they inspired affection, respect, stood for ideals and Scottish values ( insert values of your choice here ). Even if i hated them ( which i don't ) I'd keep my gob shut because I would understand that to many Scots their death would represent a loss and would have an emotional impact - and I'd respect that. Now when the dust has settled ( maybe after the funeral ) then there would be time for criticism and evaluation. But in those first few days when those who did feel a loss were having those emotions I'd keep my peace. That's just me. And to quote the cartoon " that's all folks "
  3. We get that a lot in the UK, an utter unwillingness to accept immigrants and outsiders as British no matter how much they try to fit in. I've always rather despaired of the attitude myself.
  4. You know I probably come from a bit of a leftie republican end of UK politics, but i can't help but feel that sometimes the old saying " if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all " is appropriate. This is one of those times. Britain had a monarchy before it had an empire, it has one now pretty much the empire is a thing of memory. . As for the Welsh thing ,the prince of wales is a ceremonial thing - nobody is doing it to remind you of your place.
  5. It really does have a " don't f**k with me" quality to it........
  6. Sorry, it just reminded me of that famous philosophical ( logical ? ) problem The Liar paradox "Everything i say is a lie" I've actually found the whole thing very interesting and informative. Easy to see why people go for a PDF release first and then allow the time for feedback and error spotting before proceeeding to a print run.
  7. mmmmm.....but are you right about not always being right ?
  8. That's interesting, puts me in mind of that famous quote by Heinlein: " when one teaches, two learn"
  9. Paris and Tring are not German or Dutch.........
  10. Having started this whole thing off, my solution - in the spirit of YGMV is that there going to be a few gaps filled in on the animal geneology tree, Fralor will be responsible for lots of felines via unions with Mother Mammal , or possibly Mother Feline ( or Mother Tibbles if I'm in a whimsical mood ) there may well be Mother Canines and Mother Ursines as well. Not canon, nor do I expect it to be, but if it works well enough for my purposes I'm gonna run with it.
  11. It's not a Hyperdyne Systems 120-A/2 Leon is it ? I've heard those early model Leons can be a bit twitchy 😄
  12. Totally agree, i think what surprises me is that the errors have got past multiple layers of people, each of whom is actively trying to spot the errors and so produce a good product.
  13. So, let me say at the start, this is NOT a criticism of anybody, or a dig at people or a complaint. I genuinely am curious how this happens. I've been looking at the starter pack errata thread and I've seen other errata thread. The starter pack thread ran to 4 pages of identified typos errors and so on. How does this happen ? I'm guessing the authors spend a fair bit of time ( probably a lot of time ) on their work. revising, honing, polishing, thrashing out problems, working corrections into the text and so on. Then the editor spends probably a hell of a lot of time going through the work the writers have submitted, casting an eagle eye over proceedings, fixing errors, reworking stuff as needed and so on Finally the proof readers ( often several of them ) go through and they are deliberately going out of their way to find errors and issues....it's what they're meant to do. it's their job to find fault - so that fault can be fixed. Yet with all those people looking at the text and the product, we get 4 pages of errata, how does that happen ? How do 4 pages of problems get past people who are actively looking for errors and problems so as to deliver a good product. Like I said, this is not a dig or criticism I really am curious how these things creep through with so many eyes looking for them
  14. The above is one of the main reasons I'm in favour of Vinga as an independant Goddess ( the other is I just like the idea ). i have 2 teenage nieces who have just discovered D and D 5th edition via a games club at their school - and they like it a lot. But they both know that other games exist and that i've played RQ for years, so they're well keen on me running a short game next time I visit. Now having a kick arse warrior goddess who does her own thing and stands on her own 2 feet is definately something i want to keep in my Glorantha. I never really got on with HW/HQ as a gaming sustem but i liked a lot of the Gloranthan detail and Vinga being a seperate deity was something that really appealed, for me subsuming her back into an aspect of orlanth just feels a bit of a retrograde step.
  15. I must admit when I glanced at the title i saw BOC. Blue Oyster Cult ? Some weird combination of Annilla and Molluca........
  16. Ah, interesting...so who was the mother ? we get Fralor as father, but what ( or who...) is the the other side of the equation ?
  17. Well, they are commonly called Big Cats 😄. My point is in this world they're clearly related. But in Glorantha according to the chart ( which by the way i do love as a piece of art )they would appear to be no more closely related than wolves are to cats or bears. They're all just children of Fralor. yet they clearly look similiar and share similiar traits in a way that the others don't. As I said we're not shown who the mother divinity was so there could be a common divine heritage there.....
  18. Thank you David, I should have thought of that 👍
  19. Seriously, A while back Jeff posted on the Runequest facebook page a geneology of Gloranthan animals ( probably here somewhere ) and very interesting it was too. One of the things that struck was the various children of Fralor ( carnivore ) are shown as Basmol ( lions ), Telmor ( wolves ), Rathor (bears) and Yinkin (cats ) Now in this world Lions and cats are part of the same family ( phyla ? clade ? whatever the correct term is...) they are recognisably felines and so on. But in Glorantha are they considered to be entirely different things that just by co incidence resemble each other ? Are there other felines in Glorantha ( i seem to remember tiger people in RQ2 ) and what is their geneology. In our world lions and other cats are clearly related. In Glorantha they appear to be no more closely related to each other than Bears to Cats or Wolves to Cats. Unless they have a common mother ? Also in the geneology it says Yinkin (cats ), does that means all cats or just alynxes ? EDITED for typos and further clarification. https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10159449877844017&set=gm.2293212777521375&idorvanity=482578525251485
  20. Perhaps a timely reminder from someone they respect in a position of spiritual power or influence ?
  21. Which might seem an odd question, but hear me out.... Your average Rune spell lasts 15 minutes, there are some special durations....and then you've got enchantments which are permanent. But there does seem to be a big old gap in the middle. what about a spell lasts a week, or a season, or......a year , 5 years, 10 years ? Obviously not permanent, because well they're not permanent are they ? but equally they're not just your average rune spell either. If you wanted spells that could do this, how would you run the Rune point and POW costs ?
  22. Could you have some kind of Orlanthi flying crocodiles, perhaps the offspring of a doomed romance between a Storm god and a swamp goddess ? 😆 Unless the crocodiles are draconic in some way.. I'll get my coat.........
  23. I've had ostrich steak, burgers and sausages - all pretty good. never tried Emu though I'd quite happily do so. cassowaries do seem like a bird to avoid, those claws look pretty vicious.
  24. Is there an Emu tribe ? They sound pretty aggressive 😄............ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wiltshire-62312529?fbclid=IwAR0Km-LQ3nTeS6TqysjPnmfMkhk35plf2Ag2CXGgKIiXlPoL_MmPCXanccE
