  1. @MOB, when does the sale finish?
  2. Oh, there is nothing wrong with the table as is and most of the time I have been using it as is. Generally, I simply prefer a bit more granularity at least in the player character range (In the current table Bob (STR 12, SIZ 13) and Boris (STR 19, SIZ 13) both have a +1d4 damage bonus even if Boris is massively stronger than Bob). A progression I like is simply to break-up the current ranges in smaller sizes. e.g. so using steps of 4 instead of 8 in the playable range: 25-28 - +1d2 29-32 - +1d4 33-36 - +1d6 37-40 - +1d8 41-44 - +1d10 45-56 - +2d6 each +16 - and additional +1d6
  3. All joking aside, I understand and agree with the desire to get more BRP.
  4. I would say that BRP hasn't been so healthy since... ever perhaps?
  5. Really? When I read the SRD, I really thought it was a slight* revision of the Quickstart. I will have to look at it again. * And by slight I mean text edition here and there and cutting examples and stuff. Yea, went back very quickly and beyond the re-editing and culling of the text, there are a few small changes, most notably that one can take multiple defensive actions in a combat round.
  6. I like the logo The family expands that's great Is Rivers also BRP based? The ship part is intriguing. John Snead? Good. Not my cup of tea but let's see Uhhh. Shouldn't these guys focus on RQG instead? Please don't. Not until you are certain in which year it will be published I understand it refers to the recently released SRD, but the streamlined version used in the SRD is basically the BRP Quickstart which has ben released over a decade ago right?
  7. I was also thinking of buying a physical copy of Magic World (I've had the PDF for years) but alas, it is unavailable down under.
  8. Why is this surprising? Speaking of mechanics: - Are skill modifiers/categories are used - My guess, no - Action order using DEX or Strike Ranks - My guess, DEX ... and I was about this list a few more things but then realised it might be easier if I simply asked in what way this product deviated/added/substracted from the BRP SRD (mechanically).
  9. Yes, it would be good to have a RQG pack for T11L and TCS.
  10. Two questions: 1) How long is the sale going for? 2) Do you know when Smoking Ruins will be in the Aussie warehouse? Thanks!
  11. Then it these cases, not showcasing the rules, or at the very least following them, is a bit baffling.
  12. Fair question. It's probably a good question for: EDIT: I just looked at the trend and I actually asked a fairly similar question (but prompted by something different) on the 18th June. No answer as been given yet. My suspicion is these actual plays come from the angle of "Hey, we are already playing our normal campaign. Why not make it available for people to watch? Extra advertisement for only a little more effort" rather than "Let's organise a campaign to promote our game by showcasing how it works and how fun it is". The former does not help a lot when it comes to understanding how the game works (if you do not know the game, how do you know if it is done by the rules, house-ruled or handwaved?) but it still gives an insight on how the game can flow.
  13. That is a goog example where SR adds a lot of tactics and texture to combat. Will you simply use DEX order like Stormbringer? Back on topic, I believe episode 2 is now available!
  14. Ok, fair enough. Since the 80s, I have always used SR as a pacing, or at least as an initiative, mechanism and although it could sometimes go into a rigid order from turn to turn, there was quite often actions or situations the was throwing off the SR order (a feature since it makes combat dynamic) but I also get the "let's go with the flow". It's the "2 actions per turn" that mostly threw my off.
  15. I usually do not watch other people play but I was curious about this one and I quite enjoyed it. I ended up watching the whole 2 hours! I am a bit curious about one bit and I hope @Jeff can shed some light on how things were proceeding mechanically at some point. As the group is engaging with the Black Fang assassins, the flow of the story moved to the melee round structure (statement of intent, etc). However I did not see any SR call out (at least not until Argrath jumps into the fray). Was not flow not really following the SR structure or is it simply that anyone had their SR in mind and they knew when to act? Second, at that point in time, there was multiple mentions of "players being able to take two actions per MR". Again that whole part seemed fairly free flowing with no one really counting SRs and just flowing from one action to the other. I think this is exactly what was happening (free flowing the fight scene), which changed when Argrath started acting, but I wondered if I missed something specific that justified the "2 actions per turn" or if I simply misunderstood what was happening.
  16. I this case though, Gman already has RQG so I suspect, it will be much easier for him. As an aside, it is often easier to start on a new RPG with the latest iteration which is supported, irrespective of what the established crowd prefers. Yes, me too! My boxes should arrive form Canada in a few months so I will have access to the books again but PDF would be good.
  17. Can you please expand on this? The blurb says there is a section about playing high level characters. Is it more an essay or is it more rules oriented?
  18. I believe RQG is the best edition of RQ to start exploring Glorantha. The book has enough setting in it to get you started, in an area that is small enough that you can manage but big and diverss enough that you could play there you're whole life. Character creation connects you with the recent past but also to the local community and your god. Generally, after going through the family history, reading the blurb about his homelands and their cults, the players know more than enough to understand who they are and how they fit. As a gm, whatever is not covered in the book, you can swing, describe in a mysterious way ("you have heard from Mad Reiki that..."). If you make a call that is somewhat contradicted elsewhere, don't sweat it, Glorantha is full of contradiction and nothing is monolithic. Even clans in Sartar do not all function in the same way. Another feature of RQG beyond the core book, is how Chaosium is developing the line. They keep it small and local to start with and the adventures they put out support the setting described in the core and add to it in small bites. By playing the adventures in the Quickstart, you already know a bit more about the setting, the Adventure Book in the GM pack focuses on the Colymar Tribe and the city of Clearwine and Runegate. It makes you dive just a bit deeper in the setting while you adventure their. And then The Smoking Ruins and The Pegasus Plateau do similarly. The Glorantha Sourcebook of the Guide to Glorantha are not needed at any given time. It's just that you want them because they are so awesome. Sword and Sorcery where mysterious magic lurks, dark secrets are hidden, ancient civilizations have fallen and ruins are to be explored for artefact and where death is a distinct possible outcome of any conflict, is my favorite style. Glorantha is my favorite setting and it offers all of that in spades. Add to it the religious and political intrigues and struggles and the setting really comes alive. Where you might need to adjust your vision of the world is with magic. Compared to the Hyborian Age, Glorantha is a lot more magical. It is a feature but it is easily toned down if you believe it is a bug.
  19. I presume future supplement based in other areas will offer a family background specific to said area. Would be a shame if it wouldn't!
  20. Same here. Trying to bundle a few books together to make the shipping cost more palatable. Nowadays I do not buy a lot of physical books but RQG is a bit too tempting...
  21. But... I thought your Mergers and Acquisitions department was currently negotiating the purchase of Canada. That should solve the issue. ... Sure, buying Amazon would work too...
  22. I would echo this. The first time I used the family history/background, it left me with a sense that I had a character with a rich backstory with hooks and story opportunities. Possibly after many characters are created through it, it becomes repetitive (I am just guessing) but from the start, it works great. The other aspects that grounds a character into the setting are the runes. In one stroke it defines your personality, how connected you are with your god and how strong you can potentially become in magic. Good stuff.
  23. Wow, just wow...
