  1. I just treat them as no big deal. If people ask about them, I just say yep there are ducks. And intelligent tapirs that herd humans, and tribes of nomads who ride antelope, bison, giant llamas, and even rhinos. There are immortal sorcery-using dwarves and elves that are plant spirits. They is even a species of immature dragons that reincarnate when killed as full-grown adults with all their memories intact. The world is flat, the sky is a dome, and you can sail down a giant whirlpool in the center of the ocean to get to the Underworld. Glorantha is a true fantasy setting.
  2. I just play the ducks straight and unapologetically. Its a talking humanoid duck. There are winged, flying bulls and people riding giant llamas.
  3. OK, try again. The problem was that your FB profile was suspiciously empty, which is often a sign of a bot.

    Sigh...

One thing I find perplexing is the impatience some people have displayed. We made the decision to pre-release the PDF of the core rules rather than wait until we could pre-release all three core books at the same time because we knew people wanted the core rules ASAP. I think the overwhelming majority of people are happy with that decision, but for those who want to complain about it - would you have preferred we waited?
  5. I bought it all over again!
  6. There are, but the RuneQuest Facebook group might be an easier place to round up players.
  7. Keep in mind all the activity so far is just from the PDF pre-release of the core rules, and yet it has already done far better than BGB did in its ENTIRE RUN and the physical book isn't available yet. And we have the Bestiary and the GM pack closely following. Given that you have made it clear that you are not interested in buying RQG (and yet are one of the most prolific posters on RQG threads), it could just be that you are not the market.
  8. For what it is worth, in many gaming groups the players just buy the player focused stuff. The GM buys the Bestiary, the GM book, and the scenarios. In some particularly well-thought-out groups, it is not unknown for everyone to pony in something for the GM. 5 plays end up pitching in $20 each to the GM - meaning the players are out 0, $20, $50 or however much they can afford. Given that a computer game costs $50+, often without really knowing how it plays, I wouldn't worry too much.
  9. You all are aware that this is essentially the exact same rule for skills over 100% from RQ2? In RQ2, skills over 100% was exclusive to Rune Lords, now it is a rule of general application.
  10. Then you are playing way outside the design parameters of any version of RuneQuest. The rule works just fine for characters in the 101 to 200% range, and to be honest, I don't actually think there are any mortals with skills above that. YGWV and all that, but if you are creating elf characters with a 450% bow range (since Arrow Trance just doubles the chance to hit), then I think you are on your own. Jeff
  11. It gives info on creating inexperienced characters. And yes, 31 year old characters are not dramatically better than 21 year old characters - their best skills are 5% higher.
  12. Check out page 25 then for rules for both inexperienced characters and more experienced characters.
  13. They can - it depends on how you want to concentrate. Usually characters have their best skill in the 75% to 90% range.
  14. As I posted in another thread, you need to make sure you start with one Lore at around 90% if you are going to push for Sage, which isn't too hard. Your second Lore can start somewhere around 65, which isn't as good, but you can get to 90% in a couple of years.
  15. Well except that in Pendragon you get it only once year, while in RQ you get 5 seasons - which means in theory 1D6 experience plus training on one skill each season. You also get Between Adventures experience from your Occupation. Multiply that by 5 and you get 0% to 30% per skill per year, plus 0 to 24% in training in a single skill. I've seen characters shoot up from starting to 75% in less than three years. Overall the rate of progression is comparable to Pendragon, but adventurers tend to also increase more quickly than in Pendragon in secondary skills.
  16. Yep. Egil Skallagrimson spent most of his time running his farm, not going viking. The assumption is that in any season, if your adventurers want to train a skill, then they spend the season doing their occupation, regular cult activity, AND training that one skill - the GM should not try to track their activities hour by hour so that mini-max their time (as encouraged by RQ3).
  17. Yep. And a big part of the reason we made the Bestiary a separate book.
  18. The goddess of cattle just does not have the same cosmic importance or magical breadth as the Earth Mother. Imagine that!
  19. You can house rule it that way, but that is not the intent. The intent of the "choosing special Rune specials" is not game balance at all - it is to let keep the players from being initially overwhelmed by options. Common spells tend to be pretty uninteresting but useful and are nearly universal so there is no harm in consulting a table of common spells (and other players often remind others that "hey, Heal Wound is a common spell and you could cast that"). Special spells are all pretty cool and usually-pretty cult specific so it is important that the player isnÄt overloaded with options.
  20. I hate moderating threads because I like to assume everyone can disagree like respectful members of the same community. Please consider this a warning.

    RQG Sorcery

This is very true. The spells listed were exemplars of how Runes and Techniques might be combined to create effects.
  22. Let's be specific - there is one sentence in a description of a weapon that states that it can be used for an optional combat technique that will be fleshed out mechanically in the Gamemaster Book. Once the GM book is available that won't be an issue at all. And maybe we'll even release a preview of the Disarm Rules for those people who seem to use that rule regularly.
  23. If you want to start a new thread where you try to help Chaosium fix RQG in ways that would make you think it is a better product, go for it. But let's return this thread to discussing about how much of RQ3 is in RQG.
