  1. The wiki suggests that it was in what now is Ralio, mentioning a trek through a hidden mountain pass, possibly via Dorastor (Odalya was given Syllia as a reward for finding it). How about through the Mislari Mountains into where Wonderwood is after Dawn? This is suitable for a vestige of a Gods Age forest, and close enough to Maniria for the Arstola Aldryami to remember Helamakts feat? It would be on the coastal areas - Wenelia and up the river valleys. But I imagine it would transition into temperate rain forest as you begin to approach the mountains.
  2. Heler must be more important here than Dragon Pass. The climate tends to be wetter. He is an enemy of the Sea Tribe and given the events of the Sinking of Slontos and the subsequent flood, everyone has half and eye on the sea. When he incarnates as Helamakt he has the Sivin feat that can be used against elves. And the myth above gives the Nimistori reason to pay homage to him. They don't want the Sea Tribe churning back up their river. Though, I imagine that Trexlara Valley is a point of friction between the Orlanthi and the Aldryami, not to mention the difficult matter of access to Selon Mountain.
  3. Further, Trexlara Valley may be named after a hero who sheltered clans from the fury of the Sea when Slontos sank. You can imagine Nimistor raging back up the valley pushing Ranior away as it tries to reach Selon again. Only to be stopped by an Orlanthi Hero and his band who invoke the power of the Fighting Storm by carring out a Heroquest into the Storm Age.
  4. I have been looking at the shape of Trexlara Valley. To me it suggests agency and that hints at myth. So how about this explanation: At the beginning of the Storm Age, Orlanth obtains Death which he uses to strike down Yelm, causing the Sky Dome to shudder and in places crack. At the place where he struck Yelm a large piece of the Sky Dome actually fell away and tumbled to Earth forming what was to become Selon Mountain in the Mislari Mountains. It no longer had the bright silvery glow of Yelm, but appeared a tarnished orange ( to this day the peak of Selon can be seen from a distance). At that time this was the land of Sevid, a peninsula to the west of the lands of Ernaldela. With the fall of Yelm, the Sea Tribe took advantage of the confusion and Lorien invaded the Sky realm turning the Sky Dome blue. But many fragments remained, most small and easily taken when the Sea Tribe inundated the land. The fragment that fell where Orlanth struck Yelm was large and fell in the lands of the Storm Tribe. Through the Early Storm Age the Sea and Storm tribes fought fiercely over this land as the Sea tried to recover the prized piece of the Sky Dome. Eventually the Storm Tribe prevail driving back the sea. Except the fierce undine Nimistor, who had vowed to recover the prize for his tribe. He raged up from the Sea reaching up toward Selon to grasp the last fragment of the Sky Dome not touched by Lorien. At this time Heler had disavowed the Sea and joined the Storm Tribe. Seeing Nimistor grasping towards Selon he sent a warrior from his clan, Ranior, who leapt down from Selon and with the aid of Heler rains pushed Nimistor back, but they were deadlocked in battle down the valley where the strength of Nimistor matched the torrent of Ranior. At this point Heler assumed the incarnation of the Fighting Storm, Helamakt and with Ranior pushed Nimistor back to the Sea. On certain Sea Tribe Holy days Nimistor returns to do battle with Ranior in the form of a churning tidal bore. The Nimistor Valley is the place where Nimistor was driven back by the Storm Tribe, and the people of the area are still called Nimistori. Edit: the protective Storm god at Jaraz is Helemakt. Edit: Noranior is the part of the river where the rains of Heler turned it to a fast churning torrent. Tigranior is the wider stronger part that pushed and holds Nimistor back in the sea.
  5. The Glorantha wiki says that the Nimistor River is the main river in Nimistor, but cryptically mentions that it may have been subsumed by its tributaries. In the italicised intro to Maniria in the GtG (p350) it is not mentioned as one of the four main rivers. This is honour is given to the Tigronior River. Was the Nimistor destroyed or replaced by the Tigronior at some point, perhaps during the Storm Age Flood? Even the Second Age map of Slontos depicts the Tigronior River going up what is generally called the Nimistor valley. What is the river? The Tigronior or the Nimistor, or both? Any while I have got you here, what's with the Traxlera Valley in north Nimistor. It appears to be an important feature, but oddly nothing is written in the Guide, or elsewhere, about it.
  6. Maybe to the spirit of Deep Airs place in the womb that bore Aether deep in the bowels of Earth. The cold dark wind that never left with Umath. Joerg mentioned it in the Mining in Glorantha thread: "In other myths, the birth of Storm was a hard and violent labour. Umath emerged first, pushing up his father Aether, to be followed by his sister (some say daughter) Serenha, and leaving behind an unborn third sibling, of indeterminate gender, refusing to leave the downbelow inside the womb of earth, the spirit of Deep Air, intruding into the empty womb where Aether had formed, witnessed by the Three Curious Spirits in the sidebar story in Uz Lore. "
  7. I have subscribed through Amazon Prime to the chaosiuminc feed after the live feed. It seems I cant watch the session. Is it not recorded?
  8. I remember watching a documentary about neolithic society in the UK and finding Grimes Graves quite evocative. The Bronze Age mines in Great Orme are interesting. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grime's_Graves https://www.historic-uk.com/HistoryUK/HistoryofWales/The-Great-Orme-Mines/

    Elmal?

    Hey! What? Thanatar?
  10. Oooh, could we see just one!
  11. Despise and loathe are both synonyms for hate. How about allowing followers of Ulanin to use their Devotion (Ulanin) passion as inspiration to copy his mythological deeds in fighting Uz in defence of the stead?
  12. Hmmm...in the passions section, under the title Basic Passions, several common passions are described. Will we have further development of the passions mechanic in the gamemasters guide? I'm at a loss at this late hour to describe a passion more subtle than "hate" that a follower of Ulanin could bring to bear on the Uz. Has anyone developed other passions for use in their games?
  13. Ulanin is specifically know for fighting Uz. Could he not have a rune magic spell Fight Uz that gives a combat bonus against Uz?
  14. You've all missed the hard-core troll booze revealed in Trollpak. Hoomanz beware! I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but remember it's mind rotting properties...
  15. Ok, they are specific air elementals summonable through membership of Orlanth Thunderous (e.g. Summon Searing Bolt). I imagine you would have to be a Rune Priest or Rune Lord to sacrifice for the spells and have a good reason for summoning them. Being important cult spirits they all would be large and near maximum characteristics for their size. I imagine, being servants of Helamakt they would be sentient and possess INT and have powers and special abilities implied in their names and descriptions. On a side note, the RuneQuest Bestiary mentions a slew of other Umbroli with interesting abilities (Knifewind, Breathtaker etc) . However the Windhags, pale maidens, bridgekeepers and well spirits are given no descriptions beyond their names.
  16. What are the Blinding Shadow and Freezing Rain Gale abilities? Rune spells, Heroquest gained abilities, or cult spirits with special powers? Of the Four Winds these are not easily translatable in RQiG terms. Searing Bolt could be the rune spell Lightning and Falling Wind could be Increase Wind. Blinding Shadow seems to suggest Darkness Rune powers and Freezing Rain Gale Water Rune powers.
  17. Helamakt, The Fighting Storm, seems not to be a common sub cult of Orlanth, but has access to some fairly good magics, and appears to be fairly useful against elves in particular. Are his followers too wild and undisciplined for the settled peoples of Sartar? Would he be more prominent in Maniria as a counter the the power of the elves of Arstola . Will he be getting a writeup in the forthcoming GoG?
  18. What of the Nimistori? How do they differ from mainstream Orlanthi? Are they remnants of the more pure wild-living Entruli folk that survived the sinking of Slontos , clinging to the southern reaches of the Arstola Forest?
  19. "This old Esrolian province was conquered by Caladralander mercenaries after the Adjustment War." GG p257 Porthomeka is covered briefly in a box section on p242 of the Guide (The Warlords of Porthmeka). A rich agricultural region with a population of 150000 governed by Caladraland Warlords. Their autonomy was supported by Belintar, but with his departure internal conflict and native Esrolian rebellions seen to have occurred. Given all the activity of Solanthi and Ditali raiders, especially the large raids by Greymane into Esrolia, this would seem a safer bet for getting trade into Esrolia from Salfester. Volusus the Trader Prince of Jaraz and king of Nimistor is mentioned as plotting against Handra (GG p356). The drawing off of trade from Highwater to Handra and the loss of trade would give him reason enough to plot.
  20. This route would also skirt the Caladraland client state of Thonble, and the Caladraland provinces of Vinavale (Solung and Thelos) and Porthomeka (Oxnos and Storos). Is there some reason that these areas were avoided when the Trade Road was instituted. There appears to be conflict between the people of Caladraland and the Esrolians (Adjustment War) and the Ditali/Solanthi (a history of raiding the region). The people of Caladraland seem culturally distinct from the "lowlanders". I imagine the route from Saltcastle to Staton would be precarious, passing so close to Thonble lands. From Staton it may head north to Gorphing City before heading to Dizbos to skirt Thonble territory. I imagine the Gorphing River below Staton is controlled by Caldraland. They worship Gorphing, but apparently she favours the Ditali. Somewhat awkward.
  21. Something like Highwater - Yolanda - Selgos (via Trader River?) - Ferry - Temple of Peace - Yellowstone - Swarz - Bath - Saltcastle - Stanton. These places are all mentioned as centres of trade or influenced by Trader Princes. Would a lot of the trade then flow down the Gorphing River to the rich Esrolian lowlands and the city of Rhigos? Castelains body and possessions were separated into 52 parts and "each fragment of Castelain is housed in a “tomb”: stone temples to the Invisible God where the wizard-priests of the Trader Princes perform their rituals.". Does this imply numerous additional waystations along the route enabling access to local populations, and rare goods, beyond the cities? Maniria needs a decent writeup to replace the non canon BoG.

  23. Try having a look through the old Glorantha.com forums (http://www.glorantha.com/forums/forum/glorantha-3/glorantha-discussions/). I seem to remember some discussion about the accepted canon and older material concerning Maniria.
