  1. Hello, yes, you can do a Point Bast Character creation - the 'roll' button is just there to use it if you want to. Otherwise just fill out the boxes and press the calculate button. Select the Options you want, too. Power Points are in the Powers Tab - didn't have space to put them on the main tab. Things look good, loading and saving works, the Equipment tab is done, too. Character Images are currently not saved. Will post the files soon so you folks can play with it.
  2. Thanks for the support, forum I can say I'm making good progress and looking into the equipment section at the moment. Next will be printing.
  3. I usually use 'Step 6 of character generation' for non-magic characters in a setting where magic is common. It gives the non-magic users a slight advantage, but the magic-throwers still have their time to shine. Helps to start a 'normal' campaign without any losses. For small groups in a historic setting I also go with the Total-Hitpoint option to prevent Major Wounds from happening too often without the need to downscale a battle. Not using 'Hit Locations' on player characters also helps to keep characters in a longer campaign (where the overall story is the point in playing it). For short adventures and one-shots this is a total different story.
  4. Thanks for the support I think I get an alpha version running by the end of the week and will post the link so you guys can give it a try. It will print a character sheet similar to the one in the book. I'll keep it as close to it as possible. Maybe later I can add some other sheets - but honestly, programming the printing part takes most of the time as I have to address the exact position for each row and column. But what is a tool without proper printing: nothing So, in the beginning it will print the BRP character sheet and then we'll see. The layout shown here is not final and already has changed a bit. Will change further while I add things, so don't be surprised. As far as colours go, I could add a background image to the main Window, but then I keep it simple as I want to have it look the same on every platform - and setting neutral. I better spend some time to get fancy printing running than fiddling around with fancy looking software - I'm a pen & paper gamer after all and don't use electronic stuff a lot at the table. Thanks to Trifle... to upgrage the Forum BTW, as it makes adding pictures a LOT easier !
  5. OK, my BRP Tool is about 50% finished. So far a few options are supported: EDU AttributeTotal HitpointsSanity Points and Madness ThresholdFatigue Pointsdifferent Professional Skill Points for normal/heroic/epic/super settingsAdditional I included the option to load the Skill list from an external file. This way a GM can modify it as he needs it and use it for all characters. The ToDo List got a bit shorter: add Equipment sectionadd Powers Listsupport external character portraitsadd some meaningful note boxes (background, campaign, etc)print the character!Saving and loading as well as rolling up characters already works. The EDU special rules gave me a bit of a beating, but I got to a point where they work for Character creation and do not mess up everything during Character Advancement - I hope. Altogether I am happy with my progress so far. And the best thing: it's free.it's cross-platform, Windows, Linux, Mac OSX (PyQT is needed to be installed). I'll put up a detailed install manual once the BRP Tool is done.I'll make the (ugly) source code available, so people can modify the tool to their needs.Attached are some pictures. What do you guys think? Will it be useful, is it helpful, will you ignore it ... please keep me motivated
  6. Yes, that's it. Looks good on a book with human hide covers ... as the BGB should be ... oh.
  7. hahaha, HeroLab. No way I'm touching that. I guess it is a descent software, but changing it to suit BRP is a lot of work - it's easier for me to start from scratch and do it the way I want. That being said, I'll look into it. Edit: just had a look at HeroLab Authoring Kit - no way I'll do that. It's using XML and I loath XML. Will use Python/Qt - at some time.
  8. if you are a programmer, and fluent in a programming language, there is a medium learing curve to change the BRP ruleset to your needs. Did it myself for a campaign. A manual for the BRP ruleset describes how to do it. Not an easy task, but possible. But just for character creation it is possibly faster to hack something together within a few days. Just a few editfields, tables and buttons. I guess I could do it in 4 days to get a first version running including printing. Using PyQT it would also be cross-platform compatible. Would look something like this: EGS Character Tool If the community is interested, I'm up for offers - a few PDFs/vouchers could persuade me into it ....
  9. There's a Spot Rule called 'Knockout Attack' (p.226 BGB) doing similar stuff ... also, the 'Knockback' spot rule is interesting to throw a target to the ground (or push it backwards).
  10. Any chance the PDF will come out soon?
  11. PLEASE include the errata (link in my signature) !!!!! Then I will buy a second one. PLEEEEEEEASE!!
  12. FG is like roll20, a complete suite to play RPGs online with friends. It is a good product, but I prefere F2F games and pen & pencils. You can create a character in FG2, but you won't be able to print them.
  13. That's for d20 games ... I would not be surprised if it is unsuited for BRP as the rules and concepts differ too much. Probably not worth customizing it.
  14. I have all the Entropic Gaming System books, and Mercenary Breed is incorporated in the Sci-Fi add on of the EGS. Not sure about the setting, but I like the way the company is writing their stuff and think their settings are all well thought out. So, without having seen the Mercenary Breed books but looking at the other things the company releases, it should be good and interesting. If you buy it - please let us know how it is
  15. Any chance we can see that to be done to the BGB? And yes, I'm in the same boat: how can I get the updated version I bought from the Chaosium site? (please?)
  16. Don't think so as my cart is already at 130.00 +. As I mentioned, I can have everything shipped to Brissi and then send it out via AU Post from her to Melbourne.
  17. no worries, mate. I think I'll pick up most of the Monographs anyway, so shipping will be 6$ per book, roughly. Still a good price for the volume. But then again, printing them would be a third of the money, and I can do the book binding on my own ... hmmm.
  18. not this year - but next year! It's only 'half a Kraken' anyway Yes, I'm jealous.
  19. Actually, when the new website was still in early stages, I was still able to download my old stuff - and buy new pdfs. But at some point it was gone. A shame, but I have good backups (I hope I'll never need them).
  20. Have a look at 'Operation Ulysses' - it is so much more than a simple adventure. In the back of the book (about 1/3 of it) you get alien races, technology, vehicles, armor, weapons, etc. I would not say it is a setting - but a good starting point to get your own setting up and running. In my opinion generic enough to be useful. And lots better than the Ringworld book. BTW: the BGB has something similar to the Ringworld Root/Branch skills. Some skills like Technology or Science have a sentence in it that 'allows' you to just use the 'main' skill for all skill tests (waiving the need to specialise in one area). It is simple enough to say you can build the governing skill up to a max of 40% and from there on you need to specialise in an area. Easy enough foe one-shot games.
  21. Hello Folks, so since Chaosium has the 50% off sale going on: Anybody in Australia going to buy something? Maybe I can order everything in one go to save on shipping costs, distributing it locally once it arrives here in Brisbane. Could do the AU Post run then - have to calculate if it is still cheaper then, but since shipping even one Monograph to AU costs about 40$, I expect AU Post is still cheaper than international shipping. I estimate international shipping costs at around 80$, so if at least three people (including me) get together, we might break even, maybe get stuff even cheaper. Contact me, so I get an overview about the shipping costs and then will let you know up-front how it works out - and if it is worth the trouble.
  22. yes, I read them, and they are good as a setting rule and well placed in a book about starships. A more rules light version would be ok for a companion, I guess. I just flipped through the ship section in MW and they are simple enough to use while offering a great way to roleplay. Although I don't see much difference to the rules mentioned in BRP - but I'll need to compare them in more detail. Maybe I can make them a bit more generic with a few examples and give stats for different settings. Good stuff, keep things coming
  23. I'll have a look at that, now that Jason signed my MW book I need to make good use of it, too.
  24. I think they are just chase rules anyway. To be honest, in an RPG that is rules light to medium, my personal preference towards vehicle rules is leaning towards 'descriptive play and a few maneuver rolls'. I do not see the need for detailes vehicle rules and if I really want them, I use a fitting boardgame for that. Worked excellent in the past and we had a few nice evenings zooming in and out between the boardgame and the RPG. Got very facinating when the players' ship got blown to space junk and they tried everything to survive in the shot up hull. At the same time they feared for the best to win the boardgame battle, as that was the only true hope of being rescued. Ended up to be a tie and the enemy capturing the PCs - spinning the story ina complete different direction ... but I disgress.
