  1. I disagree authur as mythical as he may be is mentioned in early Northern Welsh poems.... and he was never mentioned as a king or High king for that mater just a "Dux Bellorum" (Master of Battles). The Heroric times of cattle/border raiding and such was very in context .... how one made the climb through a Welsh/Brythonic King's Teulu was due to Martial Prowess and conduct. Maybe I don't understand your point. I hope that doesn't offend you? Other scholary and John Morris questionable scholarship" The age of Arthur, John Morris The Quest of Arthur's Britian, Geoffry ashe Historical figuires of the Aurthurain Era, Frank Reno An Age of Tyrants by Christopher Snyder Welsh Military Institutions, Sean Davies ( I highly recommend it)
  2. Why thank you it is good the be back!
  3. The 13 treasures of Britian etc... think of the rich mystical literary texts to delve into and bring into a RPG BRP context. I don't know if it is faux pas but to bring the pelagain hersey and the theological conflict with in the christain chuch. Its clash with the old religion's. The idea of making St. Padrig's "Lorica" chant into a protective charm! The letter of St. Patrick to Ceredig of Alt Clud about raiding ireland and taking christain slaves... the adventures seeds alone in are great not to mention tapping into the Fey world and other magical realms. Also I am retired with a great military Pension I wouldn't do it for money.... I would do it for the creative exercise. The same reason to revamp Stormbringer in my mind.
  4. Well BRP emerged in the pencil and paper era and took off.... I think it ran out of steam when the 80s generation of player from middle school to college had to grow up. I would say it is safe to say many of us are back. Also I think the survival of BRP is vested in its adaptability and the key thing for it to grow would be supporting generation software and e-tabletop gaming.
  5. I think pendragon was great when I was younger ( I have all 5 editions PDf). But the fluff and puff of chivalry doesn't hold up to the heroic culture of the time. That is why I was thinking about something fifferent. I actually had a discussion with the author about on his chat board.
  6. Understood I am an honorary member of the 1er RPIMa's Sous-Officers Mess. and have alot of French SF buddies.
  7. I started talking about it in the Intro thread and moved the discussion here. I would like to discuss a BRP that draws on the mystique of John Boorman's excalibur, the Poems and Literature of the Age of Tyrants 450- 700 AD ( Y Gododdin, Triads, Culwuch and Olwen) in Dark Age Britian, Ireland and Amorica. PS the Bernard Cromwell Series on the Era I enjoy as well.
  8. I am using caffine induced foresight here.... maybe there is a real insterest in such BRP initiative. Something to be discussed. Also instead of tying up the intro thread I will start a thread in the BRP general forum.
  9. I am sure the french consider post 13 century pretty down hill and quite barbed: Crecy; Pontiers; & Agincourt. Nice to meet a kindred soul.
  10. my answer The Charm of Making Pseudo-spell. Here is the Charm of Making, as it appears in the film Excaliber: Phonetic: anal nathrak, uthvas bethud, do che-ol di-enve. Old Irish (these are possible spellings for what is being said, as Gaelic is a very strange language when it comes to spelling): Anal nathrach, orth' bhais's bethad, do che'l de'nmha. OR: Anáil nathrach orth bhais betha, do cheol déanta. Modern English: Serpent's breath, charm of death and life, thy omen of making. My translations: Anáil nathrach, ortha bhas betha, do cheol déanta. Breath of the serpent, spell of life, the song for the maker. Breath of serpent, spell of death and life, your song of making.
  11. Outstanding! I am also of similar desent.... Na love that period of time my favorite Historical Character is Rydderech Hael of Ystradclud. I am more partial to the Oleggd Hen area and the triads and poems of the era!
  12. While the title Pendragon would be more appropriate it has been already taken. In fact so has Age of Arthur .... Warhammer Ancient Battles.... I would like to create a BRP game for the Gaming of a fantasy based Dark Age post Roman Europe/British Isles, Hibernia, Amorica. Loosely referencing the Bernard Cornwell fictional series.
  13. No Problem rust .... If you are interested I have an extensive list of literature and wargaming references I can give you.
  14. It is a poem about the Brythonic (P-Celtic speaking) warriors of dark age britian post roman era or sub-roman... it is defined as the historical age of arthur.
  15. Ah the old Best of the dragon Vol 2 Anti-Paladin trey cool!
  16. I am been searching for a MAC OS friendly BRP character generator and haven't had any luck ....
  17. I am rather reluctant to reveal my real name .....I am involved in several veterans initiatives and have been in the media since my return from my last deployment. Anyway more to the point Since 1980 I have been involved in RPG and Miniature Wargaming with the only interruptions being my Military and Paramedic Careers, Marriage, Child rearing, OEF-OIF, and political activism. Though an AD&D player in the beginning, I can remember clearly christmas 1981 unwrapping Stormbringer 1st Edition, and RQ 2nd edition. Since then it has been an never ending love affair. I actually still own a yellowed copy of 1st Ed. Stormbringer ! Through all its evolutions and and manifestations I have loved that game and collected it. While some of the content of the MRQ Elric has a montage to the Stormbringer 1st ed, I find it cumbersome and cluttered. The spell system of Elric! and the magic rules of the Unmapped East supplement are better when combined with the 1st edition summoning rules. As a firm believer in the KISS (Keep it simple stupid) method of RPGing it is my belief that if your core rules are spread in more than 1 book something is wrong . The fact at 39 and that I am completely retired, still having my faculties, I think I am going to synthesize the rules in to a condensed, clear and comprehensive Dark Fantasy in the Young Kingdoms rules set.... for personal use. I am interested in the following other eras for BRP: Middle Earth ( I like the CODA system but in combat it falls flat), Dark Age Fantasy (Pendragon with out the chivalry and middle ages nonsense, more along the lines of Y Gododdin) and Conan's.
