  1. Jeff has identified Kereus, god of the Tawari, as Storm Bull and they're Pelorian cattle hsunchen (well, formerly; I don't think they're shapeshifters anymore). Waha also is present in Peloria under another name.
  2. Agreed. Maybe the Dara Happans really believe their men are made of Fire but I think that's mostly bollocks. We know from how characters are generated in-game that socialisation plays a big role in how your runes turn out! And yes, that's about rules, but still. Orlanthi culture is all about choice: nobody can make you do anything, and the narrations around Vinga's stories alone tell us about people giving The Rules the finger. Also, initiation is shown in the Red Cow bits to be about choice as well. Those with the temperament for Cacodemon are described as being angry and sexually frustrated - dangerous, I'd say-, but they are given a choice to do something terrible during their initiation. They have to choose to do it, though. Their rune personality is not assigned, it's based on what they decide to do during initiation.
  3. Turos is explicitly Lodril. Lodril is volcanic and births Himself over and over. Vi Saru Daran was old then, and He died during the Flood to the invading enemy god, the Water deity Oronin, but He lived on as Turos. The "Sons of Lodril/Turos" are the many other Turoses named in the Entekosiad: Turos with an Addi, Turos of the City, and so forth. Some of them died during the Great Darkness. The Rekindlers or whatever they were were a cadre of women who brought Lodril back from dead ashes by rubbing His firestick (addi), echoing the action of the Queen of the Hells when He was imprisoned there. It's very unsubtle sexual imagery in both cases.
  4. violence is always an option - but there is another way. that's kind of a truism, there.
  5. Eugh, might be Coming Storm, can't remember, sorry @lordabdul Coming Storm page 14 (Chapter II, sidebar)
  6. this is very surprising. one of the things about beat-pot aelwrin that made him such a monstrous figure was that he actually raped the lunar priestess who enslaved him before he killed her. his redemption at the hands of jar eel is all the more noteworthy for his utter depravity in this single act.
  7. this is actually a potential scenario in the Eleven Lights - have you read it? The Red Cow have an ogre bloodline.
  8. I so firmly believe that runic assignments at puberty are about social expectations, and that's why you end up with Theyalans being Earth/Wind but not Praxians, where you get, say, Llamas with a ton of Water but other runes as well. But then you get the Dara Happans, who are Earth/Fire! And once the Red Goddess appeared, the Moon rune started to appear where she was popular. And there's always people who break the expectations significantly, about 1 in 7 in Theyalan cultures. During your initiation, you choose your rune. But it's not like it is out of nowhere. There's an entire society you grew up in. It's the whole gender is constructed, but so is language, and yet both are real, only for magical things. Like the Broo who was so unhappy with their Chaos rune they traded it in for a Water rune...
  9. the Unicorn Broo, I believe. The one in Kralorela is definitely the Unicorn Broo.
  10. there's like three separate RPGs that are about cooking as their main conflict resolution
  11. Marsi Jeff Not sure what "others" means, it's a little confusing. Sartar isn't Theyalan anymore, it's hybrid, so it's cool to see the numbers. The Lunar numbers are far lower than I expected unless you include both Old and New Sartar? Esrolia's about what I expected! Earth is spot-on, and Air-Darkness is where we'd expect given the Kodigvari ending and the Kimantoring.
  12. Yeah I got nothing. All I know is that she brings rain with Entekos. If you want to improvise before the GGG comes out, just pretend she's Heler?
  13. Based on the reborn "Good Empire" and Phargentes weak abilities and lack of apparent Monsoon presence, he appears to be the Red Emperor in name only. He passes the 10 tests to be Emperor of Dara Happa but there's no evidence he's Monsoon at all, and he's rapidly ganked.
  14. In Theyalan territories, people with vaginas are Earth rune like 95% of the time and people with penises are Storm like 95% of the time. The exceptions are just that. These numbers are upheld also among the Pol-Joni - there's a breakdown in one of the books of runes by ethnicity in Prax. Vingans and the Earth equivalents are very rare. These numbers are not accurate to Praxians! Eirithia demands the Fertility rune, not Earth, and runes tend to accord with tribal patron runes. Suggesting them that rune = gender in Theyala is not exactly unbelievable. It's a very gendered society, and yet it has more genders than our own, which counts out to the same number as there are elemental form runes. They don't say "women", they say a word that means a person that has an earth rune. Esrolians might not be the TERFs, Eirithians might be! They're about pregnancy and birth processes of animals and they are associated so strongly with Praxians. Esrola is about the fertility of the whole land and is strongly Theyalan - Esrola has about zero presence in Prax.
  15. do we ever learn her purpose? she doesn't just asassinate him, she engages in a ritual sacrifice. clearly the intent is to, presumably, purify him of Chaos taint or empower new Egi? He's definitely been a disaster ever since Tork. The result, of course, is His apparent annihilation. It's the end of the line for our buddy.
  16. I understood them to be for maize, as without fertility only something like Hon Eel's sacrifice could build fertility in the soil outside the remaining shreds of Genert's Garden (the oases).
  17. technically they requisition it Ernalda has females-only for Rune-Priest, Babeester has it for the whole cult, Maran Gor merely requires men castrate. I like to think YGMV of gender in Greater Theyalia in terms of rune. If you are Earth rune, that is what we are calling female. Wind is what are calling male. Orlanth is Wind personified, hence the Earth goddesses anger at Her pregnancy ("Vinga"). It's like Zeus getting knocked up in the traditional way. Nonetheless, an agreement was made that (not-broo) pregnancy is actual pregnancy because gender is not organs. That's why we have boobs with wind and no boobs with Earth, and, according to 13th Age Glorantha, six genders. I count six genders as moon, earth, darkness, fire, water, wind. Theyalans have taken to not liking moon lately 😉 but that's unfair to the most of the world who don't even know what a Lunar is. This makes our explanations in English confusing. When Eirithia says only women, Prax is not Theyalan and maybe they mean "with a vagánia" in Praxian, a language isolate with a foreign culture. Sorry, just thinking out loud.
  18. Oria is Esrola. The "purity" thing about the Celestials is their unwillingness to sully themselves with flesh, desire, and form. That's why they hate Lodril, the Fire within Earth. The Celestial cults of Ourania and Polestar are Yelorna, the celibate Amazon unicorn riders, and Yelmalio, the self-abnegating male cult of warriors. They deny sex, pleasure, food. Dayzatar was the first Yelm, but he was repulsed by Earth and fled. Now he's the Pure Priest of Heaven. Later Ourania was Yelm during the Green Age, and emanated two children. Other sky gods took the mantle on. Muharzam was Yelm for a while, then was slain; during His death, bits of his power floated over each city with each "son of Yelm". I think that slain-and-reborn Yelm has become His own deity now. Entekos is a Storm Deity, the Calm Air, and is associated with the matriarchal Darsenites and Her symbol is phallic - Her Old Pelorian name is Addi. Dendara appears to be a Rain deity, so the conquered Aroka water dragon - basically Heler/a, but shoved into "Act Like A Lady" form. Dendara and Entekos have a common feast day and they are worshipped together to bring rain. In Theyalan stories, Elmal, Heler/a and Orlanth are rivals to be Esrola's ritual husband, and this oddly seems to parallel that? A ritual worshipping the phallic Wind Lady and the Water Wife of the Sun Emperor brings rain.
  19. why did i think Chalana Arroy's White Ladies were women and male members were the magic-less Arroini Bonesetters? Was that older lore that got retconned? hahahaha to be fair, though, i think this is literally the most common job in Genertela after "the person who collects firewood for a living"
  20. Sorry to tag in late but I was banned for that thread about the X-Cards. Chalana Arroy healers who aren't just Bonesetters are required to be female, and while @Joerg makes an interesting argument that all Broo are female, I think his argument is a case of YGWV for most people as texts have said specifically that Thed hates the rare female births. I think we can assume Ralzakark the Unicorn Broo (damnit I always misspell his/their name) has actual female broo Chalana Arroy worshipper(s). Also Broo double as opponents because they also are cattle raiders, but you have to get the cattle back before they turn them into bombs.
  21. i was confused because this suggests I am the barbarian in the equation, and I am not up to snuff with barbarising.
  22. yeah i learned this implausible fact myself because the Unicorn Ralzakark built them a sanctuary. He gots the heals in his empire. Female broo are rare enough...
  23. Well, they have the motivations of any sentient being in their condition. They aren't spirits, driven by weird desires. They are, fundamentally, just Chaos-infested hsunchen. They do terrible things and need to be murderised, but their motives aren't inscrutable. They are fairly miserable, they squabble over power, and so forth. We have seen a few Broo stricken with the misery of their life end up purifying themselves of Chaos, even (I've mentioned one priest of Zola Fel a few times), usually in the course of attempting suicide. I think their plans can be pretty complicated. There was a neat scenario someone wrote for Prax about a broo shaman running a heroquest and using his minions to throw the Oasis Folk off his scent called "Belly of the Beast" by Andrew Larsen. there are indeed Chalana Arroy broo women
