  1. What's more Extension is a Magic [R] Rune spell. It aligns with ANY other Rune for purposes of compatibility.
  2. Answering the OP, I don't see why not. We have the example in RQ3's 'River of Cradles' book of the Zola Fel cult River Horse and Cleansed One subcults /spirit cults. I grant you that RQ3 is not RQG and many mechanics have changed significantly, but I really can't think of an RQ rules mechanic or a 'Stafford-esque' Glorantha lore reason why magic from a divine source cannot augment magic from a directly related spirit cult.
  3. Add [into RQ or Glorantha as you please] - Mounts /Mounted Combat - Dragonewts - Illumination - Lunar - Morocanth - Shield Parry - Spirit Cults - Two-Weapon-Fighting - Beast Riders - Chaos - Ships /Ship Combat
  4. Another couple of photos from North Carolina in locations where 'Last of the Mohicans' was filmed. 1. Hickory Nut Falls 2. Pisgah Falls
  5. I think we should distinguish between routine HeroQuests and... well, 'special' HeroQuests [for lack of a better term] A routine HeroQuest is one that travels time-worn paths, carefully exploring the God-Time deeds of a God in a by-rote fashion. These include initiations, Sacred Time worship, and Holy Day worship. There is minimal interaction with the God Plane and many worshiper experiences are induced by group ecstasy, repetitious movement, consumed substances, and cultural pressure or expectations. A 'special' HeroQuest is one where the worshiper explores the underpinnings of the myths to find the cosmological truths that underlay the doctrinal beliefs. In these HQs there are no well-worn paths or a large body of doctrine that can be learned by rote. The quester must find their own way to understanding their god's God-Time deeds and it is in that deeper understanding that new powers arise. If HeroQuesting was a school exam, a routine HQ is multiple-choice and a special HQ is an essay question.
  6. 😁 The enlisted man in me almost sure there is something, um, 'rude' in there somewhere.....
  7. Are we flogging the dead bolo lizard again? Some more? Still? Much of this speculation will be revealed by this time next year, and @Jeff or Chaosium isn't going directly answer cosmological questions. They have a line of 10 books to sell us and they're not interested in spoiling the product releases. All our questions will start getting answers come summer, so hold your Water till Fire Season, my merrie bande of trollkin.
  8. Sartar has a wide range of terrain. Generally speaking it is greener and more verdant in the West and drier and more prairie-like the farther East you go. And, of course, it is colder in the North and hotter and muggier in the South.
  9. I have a folio of photos for my Atlantis game that may be of interest for you.... The photos are of 1. Lycian Rock Tombs 2. Wells Cathedral Chapter House 3. Artwork of Atlantis Megopolis by RE Pinder 4. Two frames from the sunken city of Heracleion
  10. Fair enough. I thought it was more like Classic 20s, like Cthulhu on the Orient Express.
  11. Responding to the OP: YOU keep him from having a Lockheed Elektra and a crate-full of Lewis guns. If that much gear is simply too much for your campaign, tell him he can't have it. Tell him that his cash is tied up in investments or real estate. If he has that much money, give him a house with a trustworthy staff in New York, Paris and Istanbul [or wherever] and he has a good car in each location. The MoN campaign is not Pulp Cthulhu. Your players are not former Flying Tigers winging their way around the South Pacific in a Grumman Goose flying boat. If they want to swing from chandeliers with their whips, fedoras, and bomber jackets, build a campaign for that. But player possessions are a negotiation process. One of the loopholes of a Cthulhu campaign is dilettantes trying to buy their way through the campaign using their Credit Rating like a club. Money is just one tool in the investigator's bag, and should never replace skill and good roleplay.
  12. I look at the Yelmalio /Elmal dichotomy as two cultures differing interpretations of the same ideal: that of Duty Before Glory. Whether Elmal and Yelmalio are the same or separate gods is almost unimportant, except for certain doctrinaire pedants [it must be said that these are FAR more prevalent in cult of Yelmalio than that of Elmal]. Now, there will always be conflict between Storm and Sky, which means you're not going to get Yelmalions and Elmalists to kiss and make up any time soon. But the fact remains that Elmal DOES have a place in the Storm pantheon and some Sartarite clans use Elmal as their divine road to Orlanth. The major difference between Elmal and Yelmalio IMG is that Yelmalio goes marching around looking for glory and has abandoned their horse aspect and Elmal is more focused on horsemanship and protecting the clan tula. And one wonders what a Shield Push game between the two cult groups might turn out like. Probably a brawl with some rules thrown in it.... 😁
  13. Some key points about civil wars from a Terran historical prospective: - The unrest usually starts when there is a large economic disparity. 'The haves and the have-nots' so to speak. There is a very small class of wealth and privilege but the large majority are struggling just to stay fed, warm, and dry. This builds up the resentments that lead to the next point. - A huge gap in political opinion, for example in the Spanish Civil War on one side you had the Royalists /Carlist faction that supported the old Imperial regime and on the other you had radical anarchists who wanted to burn the whole structure of society down and start over. - Issues that include rights and privileges of a minority people [as in US slavery] are also one of the fuses that will spark a war. - But it should be said that only under the most egregious circumstances is one party totally 'right' and the other totally 'wrong'. Even the Confederacy had legitimate complaints about the Federal government... an most of those points are still be argued about today 160 years later. Remember that one side's justice is often the other side's atrocity. - And speaking of atrocities, EVERY civil war features them. The situation that sparks a civil war has gone way past compromise or moderate opinion. Hatreds have formed and anybody on the other side, or for that matter anyone who doesn't support your side with sufficient zeal, is 'the enemy' and they will be disposed of in all sorts of nasty ways. Anyway, I hope that adds some grist for your mill. Good luck with your project!
  14. So, I'm a Civil War reenactor, historian, and lifetime gamer. There's a whole genre of US Civil War wargames out there, but that's not what you're really looking for. Traveller did an entire edition where the Emperor and his family were assassinated and the Third Imperium fragmented into regional factions, each fighting each other and vying for the Iridium Throne at the same time. Meanwhile, several external enemies took the opportunity to attack for various reasons. That edition was called MegaTraveller and you can find all of the materials on drivethru. A sci-fi TV series that does a good job of portraying issues that could lead up to a civil war was 'Space: Above and Beyond'. It only ran for one season of 23 episodes, though like Babylon 5 there was a plot arc that was supposed to run for 5. If you're a veteran, there will be some truly cringeworthy moments [trained fighter pilots who get sent off to play grunt games on a regular basis, for example], but it's got plot elements that I think might inspire you. From a historian's standpoint there are several real-world civil wars that bear looking at, not just the American Civil War. - First is the granddaddy of all 'modern' civil wars, the English Civil War of 1640-1651. 'Cavaliers and Roundheads' etc. - The second I'd suggest looking at is the Bolshevik Civil War of 1917-1925. - The third one is the Spanish Civil War 1935-1939. - And the last one is the Breakup of Yugoslavia in the 1990s. All of these have succinct wikipedia articles that can give you a good grasp and overview.
  15. Cross post from yesterday. Chaosium announced a street date for the Gods of Glorantha SERIES of books! Here is the youtube announcement from yesterday:
  16. I originally posted to the Glorantha forum and it's gotten a lot of traffic there.
  17. Otherwise known as 'Team Geezer' 😁
  18. And Elmal is a Storm god, so he will likely be in the Storm Pantheon book.
  19. Not 3 months ago, people were complaining about no new RQG content while Gods of Glorantha was being worked on. That's what I mean. I think we can consider 'the logjam' to be cleared in August if the GenCon volumes are released on time. Meanwhile Jonstown Compendium will continue to offer us excellent content. So I honestly don't see why some folks are griping.
  20. Jesus... What's with the griping, folks? The log jam is clearing, we're getting official content this year. Proserpaedia in July Storm and Earth Pantheons at GenCon [AUG] Mythology by Q4, so Christmas or so. The Lunars in Q1 and as many as 5 more books in 2024. We said we LIKED Chaosium because it wasn't Wizards of Hasbro or Paizo, with a new hardback released every other month. We said we appreciated the quality and consistency of the info and the artwork. We said we like the amount of actual usable content for the price point, instead of filling the book with art and less than half of it game related text. AND WE'RE GETTING WHAT WE WANTED. So exactly WT actual F are some of you complaining about?
  21. Hey, at least we have an actual announcement and street date. That's DEFINITELY farther along the road than we, the book buying public, were yesterday.
  22. Posted to youtube 1 hour ago! Cults of Glorantha is HERE!!!
