  1. I'll have to download the demo and take a look! I'm always interested in character management software, both from a player and GM perspective. Already own DM Genie, and if this does a good job with character management as well, I see no problem with purchasing it as well. Thanks for the info on it.
  2. You mean NASA did something worth while? Gee, and here I thought all they did was waste money on space exploration!
  3. Finally bought this the other day, now I impatiently wait for it's arrival!
  4. Something that occurred to me a while ago, most people think of space ships being some kind of space navy, but our current space force as it were is more closely tied to the air force. So I've been redefining my space force by being an extension of the air force and have been looking at classifying ships by basing them on air force terms rather than navy terms.
  5. Thanks for including the Pirate write up. I've wanted to purchase this book for a while now and seeing how you've built a character to use the BRP system but give the flavor of AD&D to the character's class/profession, really makes me want to purchase the book! Soon as I get my tax return, I know where $30.00 is going!
  6. Happy Birthday and thanks for all the work you do for us!
  7. Started in 75 or 76, can't remember for sure. Oh and Melee was the first game I played.
  8. Another alternative, but not as well liked by most RPG players is to not use a grid at all and either use rulers or tape measures. Then you just use real inches for movement with the inch being whatever scale you like. Positive aspects for non-grid mini use, you don't have to worry about diagonal movement costing more, you can throw down terrain where ever you like and not have to worry about it lining up with the grid, no counting squares to figure out if you've moved close enough. Negative aspects for non-grid mini use, it's a little harder to move figures as there's not grid to simplify movement, no counting squares to determine range or area of effect, if you need to align things - no grid to align them to. Personally, I say use the system you like best and I use both depending on the game I'm playing.
  9. I'm also on Facebook and Myspace, but I don't go to Myspace too much anymore, mostly just Facebook. I've said hi to Gianni and Triskele, so don't leave me out! John Gunter (Skunkape) - USA | Facebook
  10. Thanks for the link Agentorange, I'm also interested in cyberware, so I'll have to check that site out!
  11. Went ahead and uploaded what I've got so far with my conversion to the downloads section. Still very much a work in progress, but I know if I don't upload it and get feedback on it, I'll never get it done. Also, this has received no play testing as the campaign that I'm going to use it on hasn't started yet. Some of my players are chomping at the bit to start, but I've told them numerous times, we won't start this until my current campaign is completed and I also have more work on this campaign before I'm even ready to start so...
  12. I looked at the first few pages of the thread and was quickly bored with the typical DnD blah, blah, better system, blah, blah. Don't get me wrong, I think you should use the system you like best and various systems do certain things better than other systems, but I just get so tired of the typical DnD fan boy reactions. Course, I might see more of that type of reaction due to the amount of market share the system has.
  13. You're talking letter/a4 size paper, correct?
  14. Looks good to me so far! That's what I was leaning toward myself!
  15. Great house rule, thanks for sharing! Good idea for a post! Glad you asked the question.
  16. That's always the most important guideline that I go for with my games! As far as D&BRP, I wonder if defining skill sets via professions would work as far as getting closer to the class system, but yet not restrict the players too much. I think I'm going to look into something like that for my re-write of my campaign world using the BRP system. You get more skill points to spread in profession skills and perhaps get a higher experience gain, i.e. 1d8 instead of 1d6 for profession skills. What do you guys think of that route?
  17. Those are some really great ideas, I like them alot! I'll have to look along those lines when I work on using BRP to replace my current DnD campaign. I think I'll restrict the guild membership as well, although not sure where I'll take it yet. As far as naming the skills, for the magic users' skill what's wrong with something like Arcane Knowledge? Then you could also have a literacy skill, Arcana or something similar which is needed to read scrolls but is only available to thieves and magic users? I'll mull the other names over and let you know if I come up with anything.
  18. So far I've gone with only stating out Edges and Hindrances that don't have a direct effect on the character's skills. Course, some of them still don't work quite the same in BRP, but I'm also using the deck of cards combat rules from Deadlands to handle player position in the combat round, instead of the strike rank/dexterity system from BRP. Plus, I'm going to use the bennies/fate chip system as well. While I like BRP's combat action system, I like the flavor of the Deadlands system for this particular campaign. So for instance, the SW Edge Luck doesn't need translation, you get an extra bennie/fate chip per game. But something like Fast Healer gives you 2d3 hit points per week instead of the normal 1d3. For the Hindrance Yellow, which gives you a -2 penalty, I've translated that to a 25% penalty on Sanity checks. The main test will be to see how it plays in the campaign, but I really appreciate everyone's input! Once I get the write up done, I'll post it in the downloads section assuming it doesn't infringe on SW's copyright. I've got about another weeks worth of work on it, provided I get the time to actually work on it! I seem to be able to devote more time on this than I've been able to devote on the online BRP character sheet. But the character sheet takes longer because of trying to get the layout correct!
  19. I was already considering similar mechanic to MRQ's Hero Points.
  20. Heh, yeah, raises is what I meant. That's what I get for not looking up the correct term in the book!
  21. That was one of the things that had me stumped going from SW with the die increase to the more static method of BRP. While the skill increases with BRP, the die increase in SW means you have a variable set of results to the roll which doesn't work the same way with the BRP skill roll. Not sure if I'm explaining myself well enough, but with the increase of die roll in SW, you also increase the chance of 'Aces', and also the outcome of the roll result. BRP doesn't work the same way, which I'm ok with, but I want to be as fair as I can be with transferring the Edges/Hindrances. I know the two games won't play the same, I'm just trying to make sure I don't unbalance the BRP system to much!
  22. I think they do, but hey, they want me to use BRP, I'm all for it because basically in BRP, there aren't any mooks unless I make allowances for them, while in SW, there are mooks so a BRP game will be a little more challenging as far as the villains mooks are concerned!>:-> I see your point there! Oh yeah, thanks for the input you guys have given, makes me feel like I'm on the right track.
  23. I went searching through the forums for a thread where someone had already done this are worked out a rough conversion formula but didn't find anything concerning it. The western campaign I am going to run was originally going to be using the Savage Worlds game, but my players don't want to learn SW since they are familiar with BRP I'm going to run a modified version of BRP for the system. Only thing is, I like quite a few of the SW Edges and Hindrances and was wondering what the best way to convert them was. Problem with the two systems is SW uses a die for each stat and skill, and that die can change as the characters get more experienced. So there really isn't any common ground between the two systems to convert the Edges/Hindrances. For instance, an Edge could give your character a +2 to the roll, if your stat is 1d4, that +2 is a big benefit, but at 1d8, the bonus isn't as significant. So would an Edge that granted a +2 be a +10% to skill in BRP or maybe a +20% or even more? As an example the Savage Worlds Edge Alertness states that the character is more aware of their surroundings and gives a +2 to Notice rolls. Would giving a +20% to Search, Sense and Spot rolls in BRP be too much or not enough? Thanks for constructive input on this.
  24. If we don't hear from you in a week, we'll send out a search party!
  25. I'm guessing yours is 3rd edition?
