  1. Thanks for mentioning that, I'll have to pick up a copy of that version of Boot Hill, provided I can run across one. Oh and I appreciate the offer to look up people, but I think I'll try and get a copy first so I can see what they've done and get a good template for other uses. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to investigate that! Off to eBay!
  2. What surprises me about this is the thought that because Wizards produces PDFs of their books for sale, now game books are being pirated. When I was in college, I knew guys who took gaming books to copy machines and made copies of them, but that was almost 30 years ago and the gaming industry survived. I think in the end, the removal of the PDFs will hurt Wizards more so than any pirated PDFs would have, but not enough to put them out of business. Personally, while I like to have a PDF around for quick referencing, I prefer to have the dead tree copy for most of my uses. The PDF is nice to have so that I can carry it with me while gaming or to work so that if I have to look up a fact that I can't remember, I can do it quickly without carrying 60+ pounds of books!
  3. That I completely understand! Don't supposed you remember what issue of the Dragon that was in? Or even if there's some way to get a hold of the info?
  4. K, I picked up the final release of BRP and Aces High now that it's available, but what I'm curious about now is, has anyone considered working out stats for the various heroes of American history, both real and from lore? I haven't finished reading through Aces High, but am seriously considering running my western campaign using BRP instead of Savage Worlds Deadlands. While I like some of the elements of Deadlands, I really would prefer using BRP. So anyone thinking about creating those characters as NPCs? Oh and since I do have the final BRP rules, I am going to try and move forward with the online character sheet I had planned on creating. Now I just need the time to do it!
  5. I haven't finished reading the entire thread, but I wanted to comment on your thoughts. I agree that the feats in DnD like Weapon Focus really don't need to be translated, but I like the idea of allowing players to choose some of the feats from DnD, for instance, Dodge, while anyone can dodge an attack in BRP, the actual mechanic of dodge, plus to AC vs 1 opponent isn't part of the game. By the way, I think your write up of is spot on. Course, I want to have these abilities as options that characters can add after the players have been playing them, not when first created.
  6. I'll make sure to take a look at your work and give you feedback once I've had time to look it over.
  7. Thanks for posting the product Nick, I didn't know it existed and now I can buy that for use in my next BRP fantasy campaign.
  8. Well, I was planning on running a Savage Worlds/Deadlands wild weird west campaign, but if the Supernatural Western book is good enough, I might just run it using BRP.
  9. I'm actually going to start coding the character sheet over the next month or so, and I like your sheet better than what I was using. My biggest problem will be getting a clean image for the background, so that'll be the last thing I add. What I'm planning is a sheet with input fields that you enter your data in, with the sheet calculating out the secondary stats and skill category bonuses automatically. When you're all done, there will be a button that you press to give you a printable version of the sheet. One last angle I'm considering is allowing you to save the data in a cookie on your computer, but that will mean you can only save 1 character, which if you have saved a character, when you first go to the sheet, it will ask if you want to load the saved character or create a new one. Soon as I get something layed out, I'll post the url to it.
  10. Don't be mean! Timelords sounds familiar. But trust me; with the GM who was running the game, fun wasn't in the equation! Guess that's why the game only lasted another 3 sessions! I played another game, different GM, not Timelords, where we started out as ourselves, but crossing to the new dimension, we were changed. I was ok with that game, but I play myself in real life, why would I want to be just me in an RPG?
  11. A friend of mine ran a game where we played ourselves, first off while generating the characters a couple of the players didn't think my stats were correct, they kept saying I was over valuing my stats, but the game system we were using had various methods to test your stats and every time they tested the stat that I had written down, I passed the test. Anyway, during the game, we ended up jumping through time and basically became warriors. The first time we ended up some place civilized, I tried to have my character settle down. When everyone freaked that I was not interested in continuing I told them, I'm playing myself correctly and then proceeded to explain to them that in real life, I'm not some world hopping/time hopping mercenary fighter. I'm just a regular guy, in better than average shape, who likes to play RPGs and do things on the computer, so if I'm RPing myself correctly, that's exactly what I'd do. Needless to say, I didn't continue playing the game for very long because I ended up staying behind the next time the group jumped to a new time period. I generally try and avoid playing games where we're playing ourselves for that very reason.
  12. Just an update as to where I'm at on my current project, I've almost finished the character tracking app for my current game and hope to begin work on a BRP html character sheet around the first of October. Main problem with the slow progress is the fact that I've had to do quite a bit of data entry to get the current program finished. Once I get the character sheet done, then I can focus on the webapp for character generation.
  13. My wife doesn't game either, but as long as I take her with me on my long distance gaming trips, she's ok with me going on adventures like that. Course, we usually don't go to cons on our anniversary, so I understand your decision completely! As far as GenCon, one of these years I'll be going, just not sure when.
  14. When I finally get started, I'll be working on converting my fantasy campaign world back into BRP, I used first edition RQ a long time ago as the rules system and am interested in using BRP. Also, I need to convert my sci-fi campaign to use BRP.
  15. Yeah, I was looking earlier for some links but couldn't find any. I first read the Military Form, then found Starhammer and thought that was a really got start for the whole series. When he finally came out with the Battle Master, I picked up as quickly as I could find it. I'm kinda sorry he only wrote those 3 books, but those were some really nasty aliens.
  16. The Thing or The Vang are number one on my terrifying monster hit parrade, though for different reasons. The Blob ranks up pretty high there as well! Thanks for the links, I'll have to check them out.
  17. I downloaded quite a few of them while trying to come up with my own, I'll check through them and see if I've got the one you're missing. If I've got it, I'll upload it to the system, course, I didn't write it, but I'm happy to give it back to the community. It'll have to wait till Monday though.
  18. New BRP of course! I've got another project to finish prior to starting on this, but I have been monkeying around with the character sheet so I am making some progress on it even though I should be concentrating on other things!
  19. I'll try and see if I can work something up that will let you generate a character and then print it out. You won't be able to save it, but I should be able to program the generator so that you'll be able to generate a character and then print it. First big thing I've got to work out is a character sheet that'll look good/work in a browser and also print decently.
  20. That's a great system and looks like it would be easy to incorporate into a BRP game. Thanks for sharing! It gives me inspiration for my campaign!
  21. Those data files sound nice, specially since my SciFi campaign takes place within 20 ly of Sol. Thanks for posting the link, I forgot about Astrosynthesis and had originally wanted to check it out!
  22. My god they are so EVIL! I can see I'm going to be spending some money before Monday!
  23. I also vote for CC3, it has somewhat of a learning curve, but you can make some really great maps with it, fairly quickly.
  24. That sounds really great! I'm glad because I used the comics as partial inspiration for my campaign world. I hope they do a good job and I would prefer to see it as a live action over an animated feature, but either one would be great.
