  2. Shannon Appelcline writes, "This is actually my second attempt at an update for Chaosium. In the summer of 2015 there was an event so historic at Chaosium that I felt I needed to produce a revised history, which I did on July 9th, 2015. The joke was on me: twenty-one days later there was another big overhaul to the company, which put it on the path to a major revival which is continuing today." Here is RPGNet's updated history for Chaosium, from Designers and Dragons, also coming out in a new German edition soon. https://www.rpg.net/columns/advanced-designers-and-dragons/advanced-designers-and-dragons17.phtml
  3. Check out the new gameplay trailer for CALL OF CTHULHU, "the official adaptation of Chaosium's tabletop RPG", as is so nicely said at the start of the video. Trailer released at Gamescom in Cologne earlier this week, the game is out on October 30.
  4. The iconic horror investigation roleplaying game Call of Cthulhu will be coming out in a Swedish translation, Chaosium announced today. The Swedish edition will be produced under license by Eloso Förlag. Elder statesman of the Swedish RPG industry, Drakar och Demoner creator Fredrik Malmberg is delighted by the announcement: "I playtested Call of Cthulhu first edition so many moon cycles ago with Sandy, and Greg, and the whole Chaosium crowd as a teenager in the Bay Area on a tourist visa. It contributed to Swedish youth delivered straight into the Percentile system as early as 1982 with Drakar och Demoner. Then, CoC was too esoteric . Now - circle completed!” More details here: https://www.chaosium.com/bloga-new-swedish-edition-of-call-of-cthulhu

  6. 13th Age the RPG is by the lead designer for D&D 3rd (Jonathan Tweet) and lead designer of D&D 4th (Rob Heinsoo), and brings some DNA from both these rules-sets: it has been described as their "love letter" to D&D, e.g. this Geek & Sundry article, "This Game is a Love Letter to D&D". Rob and Jonathan also wrote 13G, which they themselves call their D20 "love letter to Glorantha". Here's a very comprehensive review of 13G, if you haven't seen it already: http://andrewloganmontgomery.blogspot.com/2018/03/13th-age-glorantha-review.html Right back at ya 😉
  7. 13th Age Glorantha co-creator Jonathan Tweet takes his first look at the final printed product, the "love letter to Glorantha" he created with Rob Heinsoo... https://robheinsoo.blogspot.com/2018/08/guest-post-thumbing-through-13th-age.html
  8. Yes, if you buy the PDF direct from Chaosium, you can deduct that cost off a later hard copy purchase from Chaosium.com. As you're in Australia, Chaosium will ship your items from the local warehouse in Sydney.
  9. In the current Miskatonic Monday, we highlight "The Medicine Show", a great example of taking material from one setting and adapting it for another in the Miskatonic Repository. This scenario originally appeared in Tory Wilhelmson's DEVIL'S GULCH, the BRP "Weird West" supplement. Community creator Jonathan Meadows got permission from Troy and Chaosium to update this scenario to Call of Cthulhu 7th Ed and move the setting from Devil’s Gulch to the San Rafael setting from Call of Cthulhu's Old West supplement DOWN DARKER TRAILS. Plus we showcase several other awesome titles recently added to the Miskatonic Repository on DriveThruRPG... https://www.chaosium.com/blogmiskatonic-monday-the-miskatonic-repository-goes-down-darker-trails-and-other-eldritch-places/
  10. I'll go further. For me, the jury is out whether D&D is a roleplaying game first-and-foremost at all...
  11. *yes, although Glorantha is a flat lozenge, rather than a globe, it too has a horizon. Let Clement Longhair of the Nochet Lhankor Mhy Temple explain: ON THE PROPERTIES OF THE ELEMENTS: HOW FAR CAN SOMEONE SEE ON THE OCEAN? As is well known Light, like Fire, is a manifestation of Aether and thus properly belongs in the Sky World. The elements always seeks their own proper level in the bubble that is Glorantha, thus light tends to curve upward slightly as it flits along at a great pace. This is why you see the top of a mast as a ship approaches, then the sails, then the body. Some crude drawings may make this more clear: At this stage the light from the mast barely skims the waters, making the top visible, but the path that light from the sails would have to take intersects the ocean's surface and is absorbed by the hungry waters. A little thought reveals this to be the true explanation for the 'horizon' of seafarers and for why the tops of objects are seen first as a distant object approaches. Note also that an observer higher up may see farther, thus we have lookouts atop the masts of ships and observation towers (this phenomenon is seen on land as well but is less obvious.) As for the counter-arguments by the ignorant, these rest on the principle that light travels in straight lines. Obviously this must be false, as we know that Light is but the subtle form of Fire, which, seeking its proper level, tends to rise. Thus it is insupportable that light should not curve upward in it path. Objections of the Ignorant: 1. That Light descends from the Sun and Stars, invalidating my Claims. I answer this as follows: beyond the Sky Dome is a Shining World. Of the Shining World's great Light, but a small Fraction descends to us along the paths pioneered by mighty Yelm and his lesser descendants and followers. The Will of these divine Beings is to send light to the mortal world, hence the light descends, against its Nature. However, it always yearns to return unto its true Home. 2. That El-Metal (Gold) falls Down toward the Earth with great Force, against the Tenets of my Theory. I answer this as follows: Yelm's metal indeed falls down with great Force, but in the oldest records this is not so. In Godtime, before the Darkness, it was the Lightest of Metals and would even Leap and Dance about, from the Yearning of the Fire Within to return to the Sky World. See , and lastly "The Sun Wheel Dancers" by Hector the Wise of Sun County for a compilation of the works of the Ancient Authors I have cited. Only after the Sunslaying (familiar to all who love the Lightbringer Saga) did Gold become heavy and lifeless, seeking to join the Celestial Emperor in the Underworld. Thus through the actions of Great Orlanth did Gold become the heaviest of Metals. [from the Nochet Collectanea XXIX. 344.88]

    RQG print copy?

No. That is for purchases from Chaosium.com only.
  19. The elevator pitch for Sun County has always been "Spartans in the Wild West". The "future history" of Sun County is already written, taking events through to 1628. This as-yet unpublished document is titled "The Great Winter and Time of Two Counts" and is some 50K words long. Even in a backwater like Sun County and the River of Cradles a lot happens during this time (the recriminations after the Cradle debacle, the Windstop and defeating it, the Second Battle of Moonbroth, the coming of Argrath Whitebull, religious civil war in Sun Dome lands, the Dragonrise, etc). Melo Yelo plays a role in many of these events. I have posted bits and pieces from this document in various BRP Central threads Earlier this month I ran a (baboon-free) scenario at Gen Con where the players are a file of Sun Dome Templars. It culminates at the Second Battle of Moonbroth (1624). The Sun Domers are of course Lunar allies, but at a crucial moment they adroitly change sides—or are at least not on the losing side...
  20. "Chaosium has recruited renowned role playing author Robin Laws (Feng Shui, Hillfolk) to write an updated version of the RuneQuest supplement Pavis & Big Rubble. The first of two volumes, A Big Rubble, will release late in 2019, with Pavis planned for 2020." https://icv2.com/articles/news/view/41146/robin-laws-pen-two-runequest-books NB Robin's books are set some 7-10 years after the adventures described in RQ2's Pavis & Big Rubble, that culminate with The Cradle (1621). A lot has changed in that time.
  21. Thank you to everyone who posted suggested corrections. We are now reviewing those suggested corrections to prepare files to go to printer. We will also be producing an updated PDF which will be made available to everyone who has purchased the PDF. Once the updated PDF has been released, we will open this thread to catch any typos or errors spotted. We will continue to update PDFs on the Chaosium website, DriveThru RPG, and Bits & Mortar. Any later approved corrections will go into a subsequent printing of the book. Many thanks!
