  1. Although this sounds just like the opening of a Call of Cthulhu one-shot, we're reasonably confident this isn't the ship delivering the CoC7 reprints, or the new RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha... Spooky similarities though to Chaosium's Free RPG Day offering in 2017, Sandy Petersen's one-shot THE DERELICT (now also featured in the Call of Cthulhu scenario collection PETERSEN'S ABOMINATIONS).

  14. The immense popularity of Call of Cthulhu in Japan - "hands down the most popular played RPG: ...where you think roleplaying game equals Dungeons and Dragons in many other countries, in Japan... roleplaying equals Call of Cthulhu." Especially popular with Japanese women gamers. (starts at 2.40)
  15. 'Horror on the Orient Express' and 'Reign of Terror' lead writer Mark Morrison - himself, a very experienced video game writer - was on board to help ensure CALL OF CTHULHU the Video Game captures the essence of the tabletop RPG that inspired it. https://www.pcgamer.com/can-call-of-cthulhu-ever-be-a-good-videogame
  16. Antonios S of RPGNet reviews the new RuneQuest dice from Q Workshop: "The best imaginable dice for ancient civilizations out there... the two RuneQuest Dice Sets are fantastic, brilliant, exquisite, and I can continue with a long list of adjectives, all of them positive. They cover a rather incredible hole in the genres of dice marketed out there, namely designs relating to Bronze Age..." Style: 5 (Excellent!)Substance: 5 (Excellent!) https://www.rpg.net/reviews/archive/17/17738.phtml
  17. A discussion with two of the lead developers of Call of Cthulhu the official video game at Gamescom 2018. Again, nice to see they emphasise up front that the game (out on Oct 30) is based on the Chaosium tabletop RPG:

  19. Shannon Appelcline writes, "This is actually my second attempt at an update for Chaosium. In the summer of 2015 there was an event so historic at Chaosium that I felt I needed to produce a revised history, which I did on July 9th, 2015. The joke was on me: twenty-one days later there was another big overhaul to the company, which put it on the path to a major revival which is continuing today." Here is RPGNet's updated history for Chaosium, from Designers and Dragons, also coming out in a new German edition soon. https://www.rpg.net/columns/advanced-designers-and-dragons/advanced-designers-and-dragons17.phtml
  20. Check out the new gameplay trailer for CALL OF CTHULHU, "the official adaptation of Chaosium's tabletop RPG", as is so nicely said at the start of the video. Trailer released at Gamescom in Cologne earlier this week, the game is out on October 30.
  21. The iconic horror investigation roleplaying game Call of Cthulhu will be coming out in a Swedish translation, Chaosium announced today. The Swedish edition will be produced under license by Eloso Förlag. Elder statesman of the Swedish RPG industry, Drakar och Demoner creator Fredrik Malmberg is delighted by the announcement: "I playtested Call of Cthulhu first edition so many moon cycles ago with Sandy, and Greg, and the whole Chaosium crowd as a teenager in the Bay Area on a tourist visa. It contributed to Swedish youth delivered straight into the Percentile system as early as 1982 with Drakar och Demoner. Then, CoC was too esoteric . Now - circle completed!” More details here: https://www.chaosium.com/bloga-new-swedish-edition-of-call-of-cthulhu

  23. 13th Age the RPG is by the lead designer for D&D 3rd (Jonathan Tweet) and lead designer of D&D 4th (Rob Heinsoo), and brings some DNA from both these rules-sets: it has been described as their "love letter" to D&D, e.g. this Geek & Sundry article, "This Game is a Love Letter to D&D". Rob and Jonathan also wrote 13G, which they themselves call their D20 "love letter to Glorantha". Here's a very comprehensive review of 13G, if you haven't seen it already: http://andrewloganmontgomery.blogspot.com/2018/03/13th-age-glorantha-review.html Right back at ya 😉
