  1. Who else is excited about the upcoming Lords of the Middle Sea by Jason Durall? I am. I like a lot what I've read / heard about the setting, and especially about the chargen and the tweaks to BRP. I think any BRP enthusiast and tinkerer, who swears by the Big Gold Book, who endured the lean years of photocopied monographs, who can see the gold beyond the typos in Magic World, should be pretty enthused* by this release, so why all this quiet? Or are you just commenting about it elsewhere? ------- *In all honesty, as BRP enthusiast as much as a Glorantha fan, I'm also enjoying every bit of RQG, and think it does not just revisit/ revives RQ2 but adds quite a few new tricks to the arsenal of BRP rules (with passions, runes, augments, rune points, and seasonal play).
  2. A question for French members: is Enfants de la Flamme (the French Dundealos campaign for RQG) already out of stock? I was watching closely the site of Black Book editions online shop but as soon as I spotted it it was already exhausted... https://www.black-book-editions.fr/produit.php?id=13289 Do you know of any other venue where it could be on sale? Thanks!
  3. Box-ticking and the rest of standard RQ rules for experience/ improvement. Good role-play and good ideas will make player characters survive the adventure and succeed in their endeavors, which is its own reward, and could bring treasure, reputation, new passions (born out of good role-play), the favor of important people who can reward them by teaching magic, etc. I love not to have to bother with XPs. And I love how natural and in-world BRP experience system is, and how RQG has perfected it (seasonal play, professional skills, holy days and Sacred Time are great fun). It's a great system and, in my opinion, it does not need the addition of XPs.
  4. I think your post is missing a "not" somewhere. Possibly in the 1st sentence.
  5. Vikings/ Mythic Iceland ticks all your boxes. I'd love to see the second edition of Mythic Iceland published as RuneQuest. The magic system in Mythic Iceland is not mechanically derived by RQ _at least not directly- but conceptually it's powered by the runes... On the other hand I doubt I would like some sort of "it's like Glorantha except it isn't" like RQ2 Questworld or RQ3 Griifin Island or Eldarad...
  6. Ruin Masters is a simple BRP derived system (via Drakar och Demoner) that uses only d100, d10 and d5, thus using only d10 dice.
  7. Jackals derives from OpenQuest but it's very much its own thing. I can definitely see inspiration also from other d100 games, including classic BRP/RQ, but at the same time the Clash System is quite unique. Renaissance, for instance, is much closer to Vanilla OQ than Jackals.
  8. Thank you @Rick Meints! This is a wonderful, moving, piece. It fires up my imagination and suddenly I want to start two campaigns just like those of Steve Perrin...
  9. I was looking exactly for that in the rules for augments a few days ago but I could not find it.
  10. The Varmandi have the Oak of Vengeance in Oakton and the Hiording have a cloak of swan feathers worn by their Ernalda priestess. But it does not seem that the border hamlet of Apple Lane has a wyter of its own, at least not in the GM's pack. What could it be? Who could be the wyter's priest/ priestess? Maybe establishing a (new) wyter for Apple Lane could be an interesting goal for a scenario.
  11. Anaxial's Roster! Luckily I have it here in this house. Crack! Ouch, I did not remember how easily the spine of these booklets can break...It has several Alynx breeds from the large herding Hevrening to the small mouser Mourning. All with stats! The bobcat (Rinkon) entry is separate from the Alynxes. It lives in Peloria and Fronela. The myth is part of the bobcat entry. And, yes, it is about Spirits vs Theism and it is nothing to write home about. There is no mention of long tail vs. bob tail. The range of shadowcats according to Anaxial's roster is actually most of Genertela (rare in the Wastes and Pent). So, the two ranges overlap in Peloria and Fronela.
  12. Yes, SIZ 1-6 looks like a wide range, but some widespread carnivore species can have quite big size differences, typically according to climate and prey. In Europe we don't have the Bob-Canada split and (apart from Spain, which has a separate species of lynx) it's all Eurasian Lynx, but a lynx from Italy typically won't weight the same as one from Russia. Or Grey Wolves, where the Italian sub-species is much smaller than those of Russia or, say, Canada.
  13. Thanks Jeff! The whole passage is very useful for my Sartar campaign. So, it looks like the medium feline niche is occupied by the Shadowcat in Sartar. Full stop. So, no bobcats it seems. Obviously, in Fronela it could be the other way round. White bear surprised me, but I guess they are like American Spirit Bears (i.e. white black bears) and not Polar Bears (ursus maritimus), which are marine mammals which I cannot see very well in the hills and vales of Sartar.
  14. Nice picture of an alynx here: https://pin.it/2qGNzJi Apart from the tail, body proportions seem different from the real world members of the lynx genus: it has a longer body, or if you want shorter legs compared to body length. Kind of a cross between lynx and snow leopard.
  15. A question for you Yinkin cultists out there. We all know and love Alynxes aka Shadowcats, which are sometimes depicted as Canadian lynxes with a long fluffy tail. But what about the "regular" members of the genus Lynx, like the Eurasian and Canadian lynxes or the bobcats? Do they roam the woodlands of Genertela? And what about their bob tails? Is there any myth about the way the lynx lost their precious long tails but the alynx kept it? 😾
  16. It is very good in my opinion. Enjoy it. I still hope the new edition will materialize some day because the setting truly deserves to be brought up to current Chaosium standards.
  17. Oooh! Good to know! BTW Are "Far Point" and "Far Place" two interchangeable terms? Such as Swan and Swanton, Wilmskirk and Wilmschurch?
  18. @TheoCupier The Scorpion Hall maps are great. I'm looking forward to use them for a VTT game. @Everybody... Were could Scorpion Hall be located in Northwestern Sartar? I'd like to set it not far from Apple Lane/ Clearwine/ Jonstown...
  19. LOL. It took me a while to understand that LFP stands for Looking for Players and not for Lamentations of the Flame Princess. 😂 I was wondering why one would want to use that instead of one of the several Stormbringer/ Elric editions...
  20. Did anyone compile a list of changes between RQ6 and Mythras? Is there anything major? I have RQ6 and Mythras Imperative and I have just bought "Worlds United", I'm wondering whether I'll be able to run it with what I have or I absolutely need the latest version of Mythras. Thanks
