  1. And... If all this Gloranthan Scholarship gets in the way, I would just play it as an analog to Early Norman England... a thin foreign imposed administration of a somewhat feudal nature, over a well established native Chiefdom/Tribe. I would continue to use Knight/Duke/Count/Earl, as it requires less explanation for players. For visuals however, I would probably resort to Osprey (if available) depictions of early Parthian or Iranian, or perhaps Sarmatian, horsemen. Then I would use the scholarship above to slowly introduce little quirks. SDLeary
  2. Hmmm... Sounds like your Humakti needs a Trickster in his life. Ask Sandy about Mr. Man. SDLeary
  3. Woo! Chaosium could do the whole kickstarter thing... Include a Captain Scarlet puppet, or Thunderbird 2 toy, or UFO Intercepter! 😉 SDLeary
  4. <Sigh>I knew that was coming. Still like to dream though! But, I'm all down for a proper hard Sci-Fi treatment. Something along the lines of The Expanse or Traveller 2300/2300AD. Space Opera/Space Fantasy is nice, but somewhat overdone in my estimation. And I'm not really into the transhumanism (ala Eclipse Phase) thing outside of minor things you might find in a Cyberpunk setting. SDLeary
  5. I am going to be downsizing a bit, and moving some stuff out into storage. Specifically, a ton of books and possibly games, are going to be moved to an un-climate controlled environment (a garage). Climate is coastal Mediterranean in nature, so never too cold or too (subjectively) hot, but moist much of the time. Have any of the learned folks on this site come up with a list of Best Practices for such storage? Tight fitting boxes/crates, obviously. I'm also thinking a desiccant pack in each box. Opinions? Thanks Much SDLeary
  6. IIRC, its a bit more complicated than that. Enterprises owns the film rights to the Hobbit and LotR (and merchandise derived therein). Estate owns everything else. And its more murky than that as everything seems to be settled out of court between Tolkien and Zaentz. The very definition of a quagmire! SDLeary
  7. That praise is too high for what was produced and shown. 😉 SDLeary
  8. To the best of my knowledge, you can't OGL rules that you are licensing from another company. Nor have I ever heard of Chaosium OGL-ing any of their old BRP rules. In fact, Chaosium pretty consistently re-released BRP over the years, in differing formats. I think it was mentioned above that RQ3, stripped of Gloranthan content, was the early 2000's entry in this category. SDLeary
  9. I don't think that would work out to be a very good line of games. SDLeary Ninja'd! But not really surprised.
  10. Not really; at least a century too early for considering it Anglo-Saxon, and really more like two centuries. SDLeary
  11. Agreed, but that was their intent. To start as not only a fan publication outlet, but to gauge where to take things and give more support. Specifically I had Cthulhu Invictus in mind. If newChaosium were to revive this, I think they could do far better. They seem to be more grounded. I have heard nothing yet. Im not holding my breath though until after the RuneQuest 3 Classic kickstarter. 😂 SDLeary
  12. Such as... Monographs. I think they already put the nail in that one. 😉 SDLeary
  13. This sounds like its another cut-and-paste artifact. In RQ3, you could wear soft armor under stiff armor, and the ENC for the soft armor was doubled. SDLeary
  14. I had lots of hope when I first heard about the Clive Owen flick way back when. Then I saw the trailer, and all hope was lost. Haven't watched any of the more recent renditions, not even on "Movie Night". SDLeary
  15. As far as Bluckling Swashe's, if we were to stay with the Chaosium library, that would probably be another one that I would run under HQ, perhaps importing environmental compels from FATE, so that you can "find" that rope to swing over from the deck of one ship to the other as the shots whiz by, fire rages, and powder kegs explode! SDLeary
  16. Mary Stewart's Merlin series could NOT be done as a movie (for obvious reasons), nor do I think a series of three or four movies (depending upon inclusion of the heretical The Wicked Day; and haven't read The Prince and the Pilgrim, so no comment there). It would have to be a straight up series of series. One series for each book. Another set of books that would be good for a series treatment would be the Firelord books, by Parke Godwin. As far as movies are concerned, the only books that might be able to work would probably be The Warlord Chronicles. This. SDLeary
  17. Correct. Because it formed the basis for the other WoW books, it was included as standard. Not in my Superworld box either. SDLeary
  18. Yes... and I'm seriously perturbed that when the BGB came out, that what would amount to the Players Book vanished, yet the Monsters and the GMs book remained, and still remain, in electronic form. SDLeary
  19. Sadly it was NOT in Ringworld, nor my old boxed Stormbringer. Not sure of Elfquest (never a fan) and Hawkmoon (died and discarded long ago). SDLeary
  20. The armor is addressed in the core rules, though most of the others start off with leather or cuirboilli, if anything. These supplements are really cultural supplements that expand on the descriptions in the main book than anything else. Beyond the Wall (northern Brits and Picts) ads Pictish Heathenism to the range of faiths, and more magical traits. It also has rules to create a Pictish Shaman. Land of Giants is Beowulf more than Vikings. It ads the Scandinavian and Finn culture(s), Norse Heathenism and Runes, and Ships. Pagan Shore expands the Irish culture, adds info on the Aos Si, geases, and peculiarities of Irish Druidism, such as bards and satirists. Saxons is really Pendragon from the point of view of the Llogyr/Logres Saxons. Culture and faith like the others, Berserker magic, and another take on Runes. SDLeary
  21. I had been going by the web site posts, but was able to get my hands on a copy of Enclosure 1 with the insert still in tact. SDLeary
  22. Oooohhh... I think that played a bit here in the US. Thats the one where he is literally fighting everyone else, Saxon or Brit, yes? If it is.... That is really one of the ONLY Brit productions that have made it here to the US that has put me off. Even the earlier Doctor Who stuff wasn't anywhere near as bad (and I am an Arthurian and I don't like the Doctor). SDLeary And I just looked it up. And that somewhat explains why it was ...drek. Not BBC, but HTV.
  23. I'm not near my books at the moment, but IIRC, there is a Aura attack, which is designed to awe an opponent. Its based on POW I think. As far as Armor goes, you can make any type of armor ablative. Its taken as a disadvantage. SDLeary
  24. Hmm, perhaps, at least if going by the Jackson interpretation. I simply think they are highly skilled characters. Aragon is really not that much different in skill than a Sword or a Windlord in RQ. These numbers can be easily adjusted though, buckler 6, medium 9 or 10, kite or scutum-ish 12, and you really don't unbalance the game. And if you go back to The Boy King, you already have "Legionary Shield (9-points)". In fact in PDP, you have weapons parrying 3 points, and shields 9. Large Shields are 12 points, but impose a -5 to skill. Hell, you even have shortswords, which do -d6 damage. SDLeary
