  1. I don't get it - you quoted some specific suggestions for actual explanations, and then paraphrased them as a general dismissal of the question.
  2. We might be past it (with major reservations, there are plenty of people I know who still think that way), but Orlanthi society isn't. I don't want all fantasy societies to be postmodern liberal progressive utopias.
  3. If you're going to have a pixie, I think you need a minotaur to go with it.
  4. Oh, yes everybody should be aware that this is a super-fanperson only item. Don't go buying it expecting that it will sit on your shelf or at your table in place of the final item.
  5. I would not be surprised if some of the spells that have not yet been published for RQG retain some of the old language that needs updating. Hopefully the eager eyes of this early edition's purchasers can help round those up...
  6. I would think the second option. Not all religious paintings are Raphaels.
  7. Here's my feature suggestion: Tick boxes for the enhancement spirit spells: Coordination, Glamor, Mobility, Strength, Vigor which figure in the effects of the spell. The challence with this is that whilst four of the spells boost the characteristics directly, they have different effects on the derived attributes than the effect that the characteristic increase itself would have had, so you can't just add 8 to the STR characteristic or 3 to DEX and let the results flow naturally. For some of them, you have to calculate the knock-on effects based on the unmodified characteristic and add in the fixed bonuses from the spell separately.
  8. I don't think so, and I don't see why it should. The added complication, for me, is not worth it. This character has the Fire Rune and worships Yelm. That character has the Light Rune and worships Yelmalio. How do you want to define the differences between those two? If a scenario suggests that a character can use their Fire Rune for something, can the Yelmalion do it or not? If he Spell Trades a Yelm spell, can he cast the Fire Rune spell using their Light Rune? If someone with the Fire Rune decides to join Yelmalio in later life, how does their Fire Rune translate into a Light Rune rating? RuneQuest has a simplified Rune system. The game system adapts the cults to fit into this simplified system. I'm happy with that. Other people have proposed house-ruling the Rune system to cover all the Runes, and if you want to add such subtlety and deal with the judgement calls that it leads to, then go for it.
  9. Correct. RQG has relatively simple rune mechanics, only using the subset of 2 form, 8 power, and 6 elemental runes (plus plant for aldryami). So while Yelmalio's actual rune in Glorantha is the Light rune, no adventurer has that rune. Just like no adventurer has the Equal Exchange rune, so the rules use Stasis for Issaries instead (which is tough for Orlanthi with their high Movement runes). Hang on is that right? I think it's Lhankor Mhy that gets Stasis instead of Law. Let me check... yes, @Richard S. managed to get in before I corrected myself, Issaries gets Harmony instead of Trade, Lhankor Mhy gets Stasis instead of Law. Orlanth doesn't need anything in place of Mastery, as he has two runes already that can be used. In an ideal world, Command Priests would use the Mastery rune.
  10. Official? Not sure if it's ever been that. It is what it is, I think it was originally fan-created and has just been adopted as a useful thing by Issaries and then Chaosium. David Scott knows more about it. I think he's on the forum but I can't remember what is ID is to tag him (thanks @Crel I have no idea why that didn't show up when I tried it). If you're not so worried about officialness, I've converted the rune font into individual SVG files, and improved a few of them (some were distinctly lacking in the crinkly edges department), as well as adding the Sorcery techniques runes. They're on the unofficial wiki. *Edit* The font on glorantha.com is presented as official, but is dated since it says Moon Design rather than Chaosium. I forget what the exact legal relationship is between those two entities nowadays but it's mostly the same folks at heart.
  11. This is getting very RuneQuesty, but it does make me wonder if there is a Sartar Magical Union group of Tricksters that can pool their magic. I can think of no ways in which that could end badly.
  12. Not all of the methods proposed involve Rune magic. Topic drift, but I disagree. Rune magic works, and can't be taken away. What you can lose is the right to take part in ceremonies to get the RP back, but that would take a priest to cast a Ban enchantment. So yes, a similar outcome, by a different mechanism.
  13. Actual Lie Spell that I used in a game: "I killed The Crimson Bat three times!" There is, however, a direct causal link from that very lie spell to the character being beheaded for serial murder. And no Detach Head either.
  14. One answer to that it to make it expensive. PCs tend to have large disposable wealth, so those NPCs who have figured it out can charge the PCs for the service. And if the PCs look like they are muscling in on their cushy little number ..
  15. Do you really think that a divination to Yelm, asking "Will the Sun rise in the morning", is ever going to give an answer that isn't "Yes"?
  16. The majority of that family history is marginally usable for elder races, I'd say. Sure, pick and choose a parh through it, but I suspect it will leave a feeling that this elder race is more "just like a human" than I'd like. A few alternative events for different races would be nice. I'm hoping that someone will do some alternative FH sections and publish them in a fanzine. It largely depends, also, on where you Elder Race character is from. Sazdorf trolls, Skyfall Lake trolls, Shadow Plateau trolls, these will all have different FH activities.
  17. I think that's an example in the RQ3 spell writeup, which says that a Divination would resolve the issue.
  18. Everyone at Chaosium is rich as rock stars already, didn't you know?
  19. Nope. Me too. True. Even Countermagic 20 can be knocked down by someone with a modest POW and a bit of extra storage.
  20. That's fine, I asked the question because I'm not sure of the answer! You mean, because the spell ends before it hits a long-range target? I think the problem there is that 50m is an arbitrary simplified game mechanic, rather than a literal, provable-in-the-world spherical bubble if power. Of course the missile hits with the Speedart or Multimissile effect. Another way to put it is, how many break if they don't? The two minute duration eliminates such concerns under normal circumstances, but when you bring in the Spell Extension shamanic power, does that change? Genuine question, as I write this I don't have an answer. Let's see if I can find one. Strength. One of the best spells in the book. Cast it on someone with Spell Extension, and they can go half way around the world keeping that +8 STR bonus. I'm ok with that. Control. "Attack anyone entering this room". Nice. Again, I'm ok with shamans being able to set guardian spirits. Countermagic. Nasty. No healing for you, until you can muster a large Dispel or Dismiss. Ok, I can't think of a world-breaking example. Any suggestions, or should I take this to the munchkinnery thread? 😁 Fair point.
  21. ...although opinions seem to vary on whether this is a rule or not.
  22. p255: This is the ambiguity that I mentioned. Do a spell's effects "continue to occur" throughout the duration, or do they occur once and just continue?
  23. The problem with the "beat up a spirit, get a spell" mechanism is that it doesn't explain where the focus comes from. You need a focus. You know the spell. You don't have a focus. Can you cast the spell? Technically, I guess not.
  24. I'd have to go back over the RQ3 rules and see if it's clear or not, because that's where most of my preconceptions stem from. RQG is a little ambiguous on the subject.
