Whitewall in 1627 ST

The attached map shows the approximate tribal boundaries circa 1625-1626. Things are a mess around Whitewall, as new groups and leaders appear out of the wreckage of the short-lived Hendriki kingdom. Tribal groups dissolve only to partially or completely reformed. And there's still a few more years of war down here to keep things shaken up.

OK that indicates the Kultain are still their own tribe in the post Dragonrise period, and Twotop is or was their center.  Maybe they lost a clan to Olontongi but that's in the past.  And Kultain would be a Sartar tribe not a Heortland tribe.

That simplifies the immediate politics to intra 'Kultain.

How about that library they were guardians of?  It would appear to be in Whitewall territory.

Correct.

It's roughly 5km north of Whitewall.  It's roughly on the border of Kultain and Olontongi territory (Olontongi controlling Whitewall post-Dragonrise, at least while their leader dictates such).  What the Kultain have is an obligation (oath or the like) to provide guardians/defense of the temple (whether or not the Derensev temple is currently within Kultain tribal boundaries or not).  Whether or not they were able to fulfill their oath/obligation during Lunar occupation is a question, and if not, there's nothing that explicitly says what the consequences might be (may simply be what precipitated the Lunars granting the Sylangi control over the Kultain clans).

Wht's this about the Kitori to the east of Whitwall? Are they dead or not?

Can you clarify which part of this thread you are referring to? The only mention of Kitori is the 6000 on the map, and I very much doubt they've all been killed.

The Kitori are a tribe of humans and trolls (roughly half each) who live in the Troll Woods (also called the Kitori Woods).  They are quite alive and well in 1627.

As Harald says: some of them are humans, some of them are trolls, and some of them are half-human, half-troll. "Roughly half each."

The Kitori were driven into the Kitori Wilds (the Troll Woods) after they were defeated in Tarkalor Trollkiller's wars, back in your great-grandparents' day. Before that, they'd been a local hegemonic power, dominating Volsaxi lands and controlling the overland route between Sartar and Karse.

I wonder whether they did that in the style of the original Kitori concept, the leaden-masked collectors of the Shadow Tribute that enabled the Unity Council, or whether they were merely troll bandits and troll-friend bandits extorting the Volsaxi etc. natives without the "Equal Exchange" rationale? The Only Old One who had been behind that in the Silver Age had been offed by Belintar, but the Kitori magical subcult that allows the shapeshifting for masters of its secrets is anchored on Argan Argar rather than his demigod son.

In those old times, anybody could join (the order of) the Kitori through that cult, and apparently many Orlanthi not sharing their immediate homes with trolls did.

The Troll Woods would "always" have been part of the tribal Kitori range for sustenance and magical activity. Now it is a lot more crowded. Quite likely not sustainably so.

Telling how it is excessive verbis
