  1. Every iteration of Sorcery except RQ3 and RQG has used limits based on the Sorcerer's skill with the spell or Art as a maximum limit on how many MP you can invest, and I vastly prefer that option. And it's not just speaking of the Mongoose RuneQuest games and Mythras, Sandy Petersen's rules and RQIV also had such limits.
  2. That was not an official rules question, but rather a question to @jajagappaconcerning possible houserules. As a player, I would not be happy to pay so many Lunars for no benefit.
  3. But do you let players that only bought Bladesharp 6 to cast it with 1 to 5 MP, or is he restricted to cast it with 6 points only ? Even if that's the case, I can understand why a beginner might want to pay 100 to 150 L for a cheap version of a spell, but I don't understand why someone would pay such a hefty price just for the benefit of being able to cast all versions of bladesharp. Even less so if he gets no benefit from it.
  4. And he would also reduce his opponent's attack chance by the same amount. Unless he's using a different weapon to parry, of course.
  5. Definitely. The only persons who knows what rights Titam holds are those that renewed their licence after Mongoose lost it, everything else is just pure speculation.
  6. Which means no-one tried to acquire the rights for non-french versions after Mongoose let it lapse ? That's a pity.
  7. IIRC, an important difference is that Melnibonéans roll the characteristics with 2d8+8 instead of 2d6+6. Which IMHO still make them less overpowered than in previous editions.
  8. I thought Sorcery spells didn't reduce your Free INT anymore, and only Spirit Magic did. Am I wrong ? Apart from this, I agree with you, @Godlearner, but don't hope for a change, as it has already been discussed here.
Haut Which translates more or less like that : After re-reading his answer, I realize that I may have misunderstood him, and the thing they had no intention on doing was communicating, not doing the translation... Maybe it's a project they have, but thought it was secret.
  10. @Jason DHmm... I asked one of the people of the Département des Sombres Projets on a french forum, and he seemed very surprised. According to hil, they never announced anything like that.
  11. That would be confusing for everybody : french players led to think, it's not a translation of Mournblade, and English speaking customers that would think it's a new edition of Chaosium's game... Renaming Elric! into StormBringer was less confusing, as Elric! had clear ties with SB, and other Chaodium games.
  12. They originally licenced the game from Mongoose, which was the owner of the rights in all languages at that time, so I guess it's very possible they only got the French publishing rights. Even though Mongoose doesn't have the rights anymore, the visuals for the Mournblade core book still show their logos (both MGP and EoM) on it. https://titam-france.fr/jeux-de-role/produit/mournblade-michael-moorcock-i-livre-de-base/
  13. There's the Pendragon solution, which does not differenciate attack and defense rolls. In one-on-one fights, each protagonist rolls under his skill, and only the one with the best roll hits the other. When facing more than one opponent (no more than 3), a character will oppose each of them with a reduced skill. It's also possible to chose an offensive or defensive stance, which will change how oppositions are resolved. ***** It's also possible to base damage on the tens of the attack roll, or the difference between the attack and the parry tens, counting crits as 10s. Then, add a modifier based on the weapon used, and subtract another based on the armour worn. ***** The option you're asking for, where players only roll to know how much damage they take, also exists in Pendragon, but is only used in Battles, and each round represents the opposition faced during a time longer than a combat turn.
  14. Most of your magic variants (Black, Hedge, Sorcery -obviously-, Wizardry, perhaps even Willpower) could be simply covered by Legend or Mythras' Sorcery by making each of your tradition a cult. Each would have different ways to learn spells, and a different list of spells that can be learned and cast. Divine could obviously be modelled as Theism, and Summoning/Binding as a variant of Animism.
  15. Same company, same base system (a d10+skill roll-over with a twist : you can use a d20 if you want, but odd results will count as 0s).
  16. But wouldn't it require that Chaosium licences the rights to publish that edition to the french company publishing Mournblade ? My understanding was that they were the current holders of the right. And I don't know if they can do it without Moorcock's consent, either legally or morally.
  17. SB2 was very fun and simple, but had the problem of being an early BRP incarnation, and very unbalanced. You either sucked at everything, or were a half-god Melnibonéan with skills above everybody else thanks to your INT, and demons. Elric! had less incompetent characters, but that's the only thing I liked in this game. I was really not fond of the way magic was handled, among other things. EoM for MRQ1 had an approach to magic that was closer to SB2, based on elementals and demons, which I liked, but didn't allow binding, which I liked a lot. However, the game was based on a system that was not well-rounded, to say the least. EoM2 was based on a far better ruleset, and included rune magic in its core rulebook.
  18. Hey, don't confuse me with a D&D player, please ! 😄 Here, I was speaking specifically of how Stormbringer handles parry, and not RuneQuest or other BRP variants. I know ways to make attack versus parry less basic than in SB. Also, Stormbringer set your speak native language skill to INTx5, wich is significantly better than the 30% in RQ. But it's an odd exception in a system where characteristics usually only give 1% or 2% per point. But I agree with everything you said otherwise. And it's not specific to d100 roll-under systems, too many roll-under systems are created with the maximum rolled number as a maximum. Hero/Wars/Quest/World and Pendragon being notable exceptions.
  19. Combat can be pretty boring, though, especially with highly skilled characters - even though it's also perfectly possible to end a fight on round 1 with just one unparried crit... I also think beginning characters skills are very low in general.
  20. Definitely. With random armor, I think I'd let the player roll dice for both armor types, and chose the best result. With non-random, I'd let the least effective armor type add a bonus to the most effective, based on the difference between their AP, or perhaps just half the value.
  21. What is the difference between "maille" and chainmail ? I've always seen chainmail translated into "cotte de maille" (coat of mail ?). So it's a bit confusing for me to see the word associated with another kind of armor.
  22. I'm a programmer too, but one that has been working on embedded softwares for 15+ years, always on local networks not connected to internet. 5 years ago, we switched to git, but as I was the only one working on my code, I never had to go past clone, pull, commit and push... 2 years ago, my job changed and I had to learn how to use branches and merges the hard way...
  23. I think you have the general idea, yes. Again, the details vary a lot from one BRP implementation to another.
  24. Hmm... I had to learn git for my work, and did it the hard way, with minimum training. It's a powerful tool, but one that can be very stressful to use. However, it seems they use it in a very simple way, not like my company does.
  25. What do you mean ? You don't know how to use git, or you don't know how to become a member of the group ? You'll need git to contribute to the project, and you'll need to have sufficient credentials to publish things. If this is the right gitlab project, only maintainers and owners can publish and grant you maintainer and owner privileges https://gitlab.com/NHcthulhu/NewHorizon/-/project_members I see only 1 maintainer right now. However, it seems there were more contributors in the past, as gitlab lists 4 of them. https://gitlab.com/NHcthulhu/NewHorizon/-/graphs/master
