  1. BRP OGL SRD or BRP ORC SRD? You are confusing the two and mean the BRP ORC SRD rather than the previous BRP OGL SRD.
  2. For me, if you are part of an Ancestor worshipping family then an Ancestor is someone from that family. They don't have to be a direct ancestor, although that helps. In the film "The Emerald Forest", there is a funeral service where they cremate a corpse and then place a handful of ashes into a common container, basically adding that person to the pot of ancestors. Others would have different ways of doing this, but it emphasises the importance of the proper funeral rites, so that you are accepted as an ancestor. Adoption means that you are formally adopted by your parents and are now part of that lineage, so you adopt your new ancestors and discard your current ones. However, if you are an ancestor worshipper, then discarding your current ancestors is a big step, so adoption from an ancestor worshipping clan is rare. Heroes count as Ancestors. In fact, one of the strengths of trolls is that they can Incarnate their Clan Founder, essentially a heroic ancestor. As for what stops you from summoning an ancestor: Being bound into an item (cf The Sword of Rone) Being bound as a bound spirit, or as a ghost Being destroyed by Chaos Being trapped somewhere (Lunar hell, The Dead Place, other nasty places) Being reincarnated Being resurrected
  3. I am pleased to announce that the Book of Doom is now available in POD Standard Colour Hardback format, and very nice it looks too. The POD price is $36.00 but you can get the POD and PDF in a bundled form at $5 off. If you buy the POD on its own and send me screenshots of your original Book of Doom PDF purchase and POD purchase, I'll send you a $5 DTRPG Gift Voucher to match the bundled offer. Oh, also Ragnaglar's Breath just tipped over into a Silver Seller.
  4. Fine, but as a matter of practicality, what do you do when you hit something that is not covered by the game rules? I use common sense where possible. People who know me well might think that I have no common sense, but that is by the by. If a situation is similar to another situation, then I adapt the already existing rule. If a situation is merely an extrapolation of a situation then I extrapolate the rule. If it is a completely new situation then I invent a new rule for it, as long as it is generally compatible with the existing rules. What I never do is think "What is the real world explanation of this in terms of Physics, Chemistry, Maths or whatever". So, the Sun shines because it is a big ball of fire, not because of quantum-mechanical explanation of fusion. Wagons are difficult to push from a standing start because they are, not because of Newton's Laws of Motion combined with Friction and Momentum. There is nothing wrong with GM fiat. I use it all the time as a GM.
  5. Question: here is an information saying that there will be no SRD. This probably applies to the previous BRP SRD that had its own OGL. This applies to the new BRP ORC PDF and the soon to be accompanying SRD.
  6. Satyrs are unusual as they don't cast the sleep spell, they simply play a tune that has the same effects as a Sleep spell, doesn't need to overcome POW and lasts as long as the tune is played, so quite different to the Sleep spell itself.
  7. I'd use common sense If it uses D100 to roll skills then it looks like BRP, if it doesn't then it isn't BRP ORC. Other things are more problematic. For example it doesn't matter whether you use Hit Locations or not, as they are optional. You can always write your own magic system and publish it under the BRP ORC, so that is probably fine. Using one from another game might be problematic, unless that is also ORC. In that case, I would use the Pathfinder ORC logo and simply refer to the use of Major Wounds from the BRP ORC. In the OGL, you could use elements from one OGL game in another, as long as you included the copyright section in the relevant section. I am not sure if the same applies to the ORC but I would be surprised if it didn't.
  8. I cover a lot of that in Risklands, as the people there have such a hard life that they do a lot of things communally. People bring food to the bakehouses to be cooked, bakehouses have communal stew pots for people to eat, so nobody starves, and the baking of bread is a religious service, normally through Ernalda, so huge profits are not made, as the bakers are paid by the Ernalda Temple.
  9. That is not the case. In the Lunar Empire, or on its outskirts if you prefer, the Yelmalio Temples were exactly that. What Monrogh did was to point out that "Hey, all these Little Suns, they are just variations of the Little Sun Yelmalio", and a lot of people said "Hey, look at that, it is blindingly obvious" and many joined the cult of Yelmalio. So, what effect did this have? Lunar Empire: Yelmalio Temples stayed as they were, as they already worshipped Yelmalio. Some Elmali from the Orlanthi areas came down from the hills and mountains and joined the Yelmalio Temples when they experienced Monrogh's revelation. Dragon Pass: Many Elmali joined Yelmalio, or recognised Yelmalio as being the same as Elmal. Some joined the Yelmalians at Alda Chur, others joined the new Sun County between Sartar and the Holy Country. Prax: The Yelmalians in Sun County stayed roughly the same as before, as Prax did not have a strong Elmal cult. Maybe some Elmali in New Pavis, or Pavis Outside the Walls, joined Sun County. Praxian Yelmalians did not change, as they already knew who they were and didn't want to join Sun County anyway. Balazar: The Yelmalians in Elkoi and Dykene stayed roughly the same as before, as Balazar did not have a strong Elmal cult. Ralios: Many Elmali joined Yelmalio, or recognised Yelmalio as being the same as Elmal. Some joined the Ralian Sun Counties. So, rather than a monoculture, many Temples stayed roughly the same. The biggest change was in Dragon Pass.
  10. That is good enough for most situations. You can see very easily whether a roll is a Critical, Special, or Failure. For edge cases and Fumbles, I'd refer to the chart, but not for most rolls. However, the chart is always a good tool to have, particularly if it has been expanded to cover skills above 100.
  11. No, it is restricted to Chalana Arroy cultists, She learned that lesson after everyone learned Befuddle.
  12. I would play that the cultist could cast Lock using either the Issaries or Orlanth Runepool, as the spell comes from Issaries.
  13. Doesn't Elmal get horsey stuff from his wife?
  14. In my wife's homeland, villages in the rural areas generally have Russian, Bashkort or Tatar as their main language, but the Bashkort and Tatar speaking villages also speak the other language, and all speak Russian as a secondary language. I can see something similar happening in the Far Point, where some villages speak Tarshite but also know Sartarite, and some speak Sartarite and also know Tarshite.
  15. Again, if that could happen with the Sleep spell, no Chalana Arroy Cultist would use it.
  16. Not really. They can be contacted in special places, or places important to them. So, the spirit of a stream can be contacted anywhere along that stream, although that could be classed as one place. Some spirits only have one sacred spot, other have many, so it depends on the spirit involved.
  17. Which is why they wouldn't do it. The problem with the house rule is that it often causes harm, or injury, to the target of the spell, so Chalana Arroy cultists would not cast the spell for fear of causing injury. So, basically it makes the spell useless.
  18. Counting roughly, it looks to be 70 hexes across and 75 high. It isn't easy to count them on a widescreen monitor, so I wouldn't even try on a phone.
  19. Yes I agree. Otherwise you are in Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics* territory - "I cannot hurt anyone, as a Chalana Arroy cultist, so I cast Sleep, as Sleep does not hurt the target. If, however, the target falls over and hurts themselves, that is not a result of the Sleep spell, so I am not responsible for it". *
  20. In Glorantha it is more likely related to Change, as the form of the substance is being changed into something else. Sometimes decay just happens. It could be that decay is what happens when sinful people, or things, die, or perhaps is is just a facet of mortality. After all, some Heroes have been found whose bodies have not decayed, centuries after their death, maybe they were beyond decay and had transcended that which causes decay.
  21. One of our HeroQuest characters was Crap Rangali, a blind swordman. He started off as the idea of a swordman who became blind made him useless, hence the name, but ended up more like Blind Fury. So, it can be done, and very successfully. He had some great moments, not always due to being blind. Sure, there are some things where being blind can be an advantage, but many more things where it isn't advantageous, so don't listen to the chorus of people saying "He's only trying to game the system".
  22. I love this. So do I. In my Glorantha, real world physics still apply but not for the same reason as the real world. They just work. So everything works just like it does here. There is no need to look further, or to investigate why, because they just do. Other realities may vary, of course.
  23. It's a silly spell, don't overthink it
