  1. Exactly. Starting Passions are meant to ground characters in the world and to emphasize cultural norms. If you don't feel the suggested ones are appropriate, then change them (with the GM's approval, of course). You can always add a new Passion during play, if something provokes it, as per the rules on page 236-7. They're meant to emphasize roleplaying, not to throttle it.
  2. Ways you can lose a weapon: Damage to the arm Damage to the weapon Fumbles Being disarmed (we're doing a FAQ addressing that) Reasons to use a shield instead of a weapon in your off hand: Arrows and other missile fire
  3. It's -20% per subsequent parry, no matter what weapon or hand you're using. ______ Parry 1: unmodified Parry 2: -20%, no matter what hand it's being done with Parry 3: -40%, no matter what hand it's being done with Parry 4: -60%, no matter what hand it's being done with Parry 5: -80%, no matter what hand it's being done with etc.
  4. It's been fixed. We're working at getting the updated .pdf available.
  5. Subsequent parries get a -20% per attempt modifier, cumulative, regardless of which hand the weapon or shield you're using is in.
  6. We were asked specifically to keep them in the 5-10 minute range.
  7. It is a high-quality mike... a Yeti. I'm afraid the issue is that we're not in a sound studio, and because it's two of us and using a camera, we're not right on the microphone. Jeff's voice is louder than mine, generally, and I'm guessing that our editor Jamie balanced them a bit, causing some degradation. We were asked to sit to one side so the editor could project images to one side... which, given the dimensions of the camera, means a lot of empty space above us. Nope. External Yeti mic. I think it was this model: https://www.amazon.de/Blue-Microphones-Yeti-Mikrofon-Silber/dp/B002VA464S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1528647150&
  8. My experience is that while some people find long examples of game systems to be interesting, others regard long examples as bloat that don't add anything of value. It really is "damned if you do, damned if you don't" sometimes.
  9. Just comparing the quality of results, just as if you parried an attack.
  10. We'll clarify the language in the .pdf and for future printings. Ultimately, it's results you're comparing, not specific dice numbers.
  11. Yes, these should have been alphabetized.
  12. This is intentional. Adventurers have many more opportunities to increase their POW during Sacred Time, and it's assumed that they will be sacrificing additional POW to earn as many Rune points as much as possible, so they can use Rune magic. We're not eager to allow Divine Intervention attempts (considering these can be augmented!) at the cost of something as easily-recovered as a Rune point.
  13. Can anyone confirm this? I want to make sure everyone's credited and credited correctly, but some more certainty would be nice.
  14. I never knew that. Thanks for the insight! My memory, though, is that my first exposure to BRP was Stormbringer (1st ed), then Call of Cthulhu, RQ2, Pendragon, ElfQuest, Superworld, Ringworld, RQ3, and then someone in my group GMed several sessions of Worlds of Wonder. (Yes, years after it appeared.) From WoW I borrowed the superpowers system for the Basic Roleplaying book because it was much simpler than that in SW, but that was all I took from it. To this day, I don't even own a physical copy. I have photocopies of Magic World and Super World, and a nearly-destroyed copy of Future World found in a used bookstore. I've been telling everyone for years that Stormbringer 1st ed is my favorite version of BRP, but I guess I was wrong.
  15. Thanks for all the feedback, folks! We can only make a limited number of fixes to the print files, as page substitutions are both costly and run the risk of adding additional errors. I'm keeping track of this thread for future reference, and the .pdf will be updated regularly and for future printings. Regrettably, some portion of the comments here can't be addressed, as they're more along the lines of suggestions than actionable errors.
  16. I can't find a single instance where this is the case. Could you point me at a specific example?
  17. The charioteer whip isn't a combat weapon. If it were statted as a weapon, the charioteer would potentially kill their animals through normal use. Future expansions will have stats for flails (and likely for combat-usable whips).
  18. Hi Charlie - I (and most players) find that the RQ/BRP rules seem complex from the outside, but they're surprisingly intuitive once you're actually using them. The GM Pack (soon in layout) has summaries and handouts for most core rules systems, to make things easier for players. We're doing a series of videos explaining the game, the world, and the system specifically, and these might help you get onboard if it's still an open question. The first video is here:
  19. Speaking as one who has to both manage and be managed by Jeff, cloning is not an useful answer.
  20. The Glorantha Bestiary is heavily illustrated by (IIRC) a single artist, and all unique RQ species and most fantasy creatures have 1 or more illustrations, and many picture more than one member of the species... either a male and female, or multiples where there's a lot of diversity. There are also many, many spot images throughout featuring elements of anatomy, culture, artifacts, expressions, etc. Hope this helps answer your question.
  21. I'm biased towards BRP as being the natural place for Moorcockian adventure, but hypothetically, what would be the focus of a 13th Age Stormbringer adaptation? Would you make the gods of Law/Chaos/Balance/Elements the Icons? What would the classes be?
  22. You are greatly exaggerating my role in the development, or just following alphabetical order.
  23. Haha! I just saw this as I was scrolling down the page. Pick one: a ) Great minds think alike. b ) Fools run in the same circles.
