  1. Yes but remember that parrying may do damage to a weapon that fails it attacks and the rolled weapon damage is greater than the weapons AP (or HP now) if that weapon be a body part... damage will be taken to the attacking natural weapon. This seems to be true for all of the other RQs.. I think only RQ 3 brought in the body part parrying got a temp 3 APs to overcome. Probably so that a fist could block 100% of a non bonused fist attack. The rules do not have this so I guess one could parry with an arm but automatically take damage to that limb...?
  2. I’m sorry I don’t recognize that style of axe... <squinting> Hey hold on, are you sure that is canonical. Are ya trying to pull a fast one?
  3. This is quite an important comment I am about to make my good sir Rodney. Any comment you see here including ones you make and hell, that everyone else here makes (sorry Jeff, you too) is opinion. No one here has any right to make you play another way than you wish. The folk that play with you should be the only ones who influence the game. Really, all that is happening here is a sharing of opinions and options on ways to enjoy these great games. So if all the opinions might be equally good than I can assume that all opinions may be equally bad, I mean after all Qizilbashwoman is wrong in your opinion (It is so not Armenia it is closer to (insert chosen destination)) Make it so, set phasers on ignore those things that do not appeal and move on. Mind you if she gets a detail right, steal that puppy, she will never know! Hey, (psst) if yer polite about it you can even say the games suck and get away with it. If you do it intelligently or even creatively more people will pay attention but them’s tha breaks. And that’s canon! Cheers
  4. The Jack of Shadows would be interesting.
  5. Speaking of from the horse’s mouth... I am all out of "Thanx Clix", so I will have to do this the old fashion way... Thanks for the great behind-the-scenes insight on canon from the designer of our game. Cheers
  6. and please, always wear yer ppe, marines stones at great velocity can kill (just ask Goliath, err David might be the better choice for that question) and the shrapnel from taking down a stone wall with a sledgehammer... well stones, dust and sparks are pretty much a guarantee. Have you seen all of Peter Capaldi’s Doctor Who episodes. There is one that stands out here... I will post a hidden contents message to hide spoilers if needed to explain further upon request... and this is going to stop old grognards from running this puppy to ground? I say thee nay, a thousand times nay.... Aw hell it was better in Rune Dungeons 34.2 the one with the optional Space Marines weapon systems (and phased plasma rifles in the 40 watt range, the off-the-shelf models)... stone wall my fat hairy.... George y’all stop that cussin this instant.... yes Martha dearest, love of my life, honeybuns... Cheers
  7. and again I run out of laugh clix... would a really authentic, tin plated, stanlee endorsed no prize do? I’ll even throw in an excelsior, or two, if it would sweeten the deal.
  8. Well more than forty years! fubars my hopes of a Flash Gordon, RPG. I mean one could ask as this point whether I would like lotsa cheese with that whine? Sigh. Way to dash the hopes of a poor young impressionable near senior, g33k, I hope yer proud!
  9. Or Pellucidar (my hollow earth choice) as that would be a "100 years thang" Verne’s hollow earth thing is right out of the picture... 79, hmm... (in a very synthesized and processed but still recognizable Freddy Mercury Voice...) Flash... a-ah, saviour of the universe Flash a-ah, he’ll save all of us. Cmon guys the z is a red herring, a canard a conspiracy theory. Trust me.
  10. Tant pis, as my Quebecois buds say (too bad)... As interesting as I find the the great trade routes of the green marble (just see me gushing up above about the Silk Road) I was hoping these were gems of Gloranthan goodness you were taking about... Ahh, there you go... so when can you look forward to seeing you open this as topics It sounds like a great one to me! For the first reaction I have to say; see my first comment in this post, but still... Fantastic stuff indeed and maybe as a guilty pleasure I will have to travel to far Samarkand via the silk road with the accompaniment of the Polos for companionship and conversation under foreign stars that look so familiar and different... dare I say alien... Mayhap’s we might stumble across a map in a bazaar that leads to... Hee hee, next you'll ask me to imagine the autobahn without Kraftwerk (can NOT be done!) sorry dood... (hangs head) Linguistically perhaps but otherwise it seems pretty good. It's what I base my using the Anatolia lands of this time as a sort of template... To tell you the truth the accuracy does not matter a lot... I like to have an idea I can use to describe the reality my table creates together. If we’re happy... It could be woise. On the other hand, is that a hit @Joerg, Did Qizilbashwoman tag ya? I have mentioned counting coup on Joerg is a deal... Cheers all
  11. Cue Fazzur Wideread Jar-Eel and the Coder's Count Julan saluting in front of a giant moon rune flag... And Count Julan as a hero of this view of the Empire would be the first to tell you of this...
  12. Gods damn, you are making me think of another entity that used peasant iconography for its ideal and then fell a little short... the USSR.
  13. Close enough for the barbarians I know and will do quite nicely (Assyrian Hittite or any of the other bronze age denizens of Anatolia. for that matter would do fine)... I am not sure just what this Lunar Sartar is that you mention. After the fall of the provincial army and the rise of Kallyr Starbrow there is no Lunar Sartar remaining I believe. Are you referring to Alda-chur (arguably Lunar Sartar since the Alda-churi tribe joined Sartar in the time of Prince Terasarin after the fall of Tarsh to the Lunar Empire and then fell to the Lunars in 1602 with the rest of Sartar). Harvar Ironfist took over and pulled what became the Alda-chur Overtribe out of occupied Sartar after the Rebellion of the Righteous Wind and it became arguably an allied friend of the empire. I do not know if they return to Sartar after the Dragonrise. It can’t be Tarsh as Tarsh was never a member of Sartar’s creation. Cheers
  14. T This one from page 161 It’s great... who did the finished pic?
  15. Oh please Joerg You have got to start a thread exploring topics like this someday. The latter two places exist in Glorantha as opposed to their better know cousin the wonderful exotic, vibrant and adventure-soaked Silk Road of our world I am assuming (hopefully correctly). A Bricks and Bouquets Forum like this is the wrong place to unpack potentially deep subjects like those but man would I love to hear more about the two of ‘em and others of their ilk. or Waertagi Dragon Ships... I really have to say the without the Hittite.Anatolia/Assyrian thang I lose my kinda celtic/nordic/barbarian thang entirely so I have to throw in with Qizilbashwoman here Joerg. Go Hittites! Giver me an H, give me an i give me a (huh what’s this, an eye... no I said an I not an eye....), sigh...
  16. Oh and obligatory apologies for the thread drift...
  17. Sorry Psullie it has been a great day for posts at BRP central and for the second day in a row I have run out of thanx clicks way to soon, This topic deserves one and I was going to get around to starting it sooner of later but there you are. Why do I recall a successful impaling or thrusting parry driving back an unintelligent animal after an unsuccessful attack as well as doing damage if the weapon’s (usually a claw, mouth or arm/fist/paw) rolled damage beats the Armour Points (a minimum 3 AP for a bare human arm already listed in the RAW or armour (barding or natural) plus the three AP bare human arms got ) of the failed attacker’s weapon AP by the difference in the numbers, Now this in confusing because I have no eloquence. so what i mean is a dog attacks a human and the fails the roll but the human uses a dagger to parry the attack and succeeds and rolls a—awwww too bad 1 which becomes a three (1D4+2 for a dagger). A natural weapon has a min of 3 APs for this purpose only and the dog has no barding but one point of fur for a total of 4 APs for this purpose only.... The dog warily retreats the near miss and thinks about it’s future, for a bit...at a distance.... If a roll of 3 or 4 been rolled (add the 2 for 5 or 6) then the dog would have taken 1 or 2 points of damage to the weapon (its head) and fallen back to think about just how angry it really is, all whilst licking it’s wound. Was this a home rule based off some existing RQ 2 of 3 rule? Or did it exist somewhere in some form ?
  18. Great! @Jeff see I am calling you the great Napoleon when we disagree! Found this curiously at Youtube and other then the text translating as you say I have no idea what it is about..... L'Empereur Napoléon nomma ses Grenadiers de sa Garde les Grognards en 1807, car c'était les seuls à se plaindre ouvertement devant lui
  19. Quoted from https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/grognard
  20. Careful about that santa beard I'm sporting’ eh! <grin> I believe that grognards goes back somewhat further to the very early 1800s and referred to Napoleon's generals and they’re love of playing with toy soldiers and refighting old battles with arguing over who hit whom and what rules systems to use to determine this...and as Joerg says just grumbling an awful lot. If not it does go back to the czar’s generals doing much the same thing using toy french, russian and prussian soldiers... an old grognard
  21. I believe that was an album called big bamboo, and if so, it came with the largest rolling paper I have ever seen, Do you know if your dad still has this?
