  1. I'll admit that is somewhat fair. I think the issue is the buildup, to the announcement, of a product that we already knew about, announcing that the product was coming (rather than an actual release of something), and that it was now MANY more volumes strung across a much larger timeline. At least that is the way I reacted to it. If it "opens the floodgates", that is certainly progress. I'm just not sure why this could not have been a CoP style book(s), with the greater detail about variability actually integrated into the actual region/culture books. This would have probably been more efficient, and we would more-than-likely have at least Sartar and Pavis by now, two other long known and worked on supplements. SDLeary
  2. ARGH! 10 different volumes?! Perhaps I'll stick with CoP and the Guide and roll my own. Why can they spend that kind effort on the faiths, and not actually introduce us to the cultures that embrace those faiths? In fact, I'd much rather have rich regional guidebooks that talk about the culture, faiths they worship, and how they vary from other areas if they are the same or similar deity. SDLeary
  3. Sigh... So a teaser about an announcement. An announcement which isn't something new, but simply to reveal that what had been two volumes, and then three, has now morphed into 10, and there isn't even an actual release now? I'll end up purchasing them, no doubt, but it is somewhat disappointing. SDLeary
  4. Hmmmm, I wonder... New Path... With the deflation of a particularly large game company, and the thirst for somewhat generic fantasy that's NOT DnD, I'm wondering if it couldn't be a new edition of Magic World. Or, is it possible that Lord’s of the Middle Sea is ready? SDLeary
  5. God that would be horrible... We would move the timeline another 6 years forward, and start with Sartar ALL OVER AGAIN!!😧 SDLeary
  6. Or... egads! Perhaps it's FINALLY Mythic Iceland! Not holding my breath though. πŸ˜‰ SDLeary
  7. Depends on what the group is interested in. Zero-to-Hero? RQ3+. Rune level? PDP+. Heroic? HQ+. SDLeary
  8. Yup, saw the post when it came out. Unfortunately, until (if) a new document is published by Chaosium, the current SRD and license stands. SDLeary
  9. I am not a Chaoisum employee, but as it stands at the moment, you must follow the stipulations in the SRD. The rules in the BGB haven NOT been designated Open Content. SDLeary
  10. Fixed that for you... Brithini are the Managers, and dwarves are the workers! SDLeary
  11. Basic Magic, Basic Creatures, and Basic Gamemaster were basically Monograph reprints of the old RQ3 Magic, Creatures, and Gamemaster books (During the taped spine era of Monographs, I also recall a monograph that was basically the Players book). While Creatures and Gamemaster are gone (might have luck on eBay or NobleKnight), Magic is still mostly available in PDF as The Magic Book, and its possible that you might still find physical copies in your FLGS or online shops. Classic Fantasy in its yellow monograph format also appears from time to time. Might simply be easier to purchase the Mythras version and do some conversion, or wait for the self contained version to come out. SDLeary
  12. Interesting. Me thinks someone is jumping the gun a bit. We'll probably know in a few hours. That'll be about the time when @MOB does his "evening broadcast"! πŸ˜‰ SDLeary
  13. Oh, no doubt. They probably wouldn't be in business otherwise, at least not with a curated hoard like that one. I seriously haven't seen multiples of those boxes anywhere (outside photos of Ricks collection) in ages! SDLeary
  14. Some of the seams are a bit askew... looks like they have their own shrink supplies. Still though, boxes look in remarkably fine condition! SDLeary
  15. It's literary Mallorian/Morte in context. So at the beginning, you are essentially equipped as a Norman 11C knight, and by the end a 15C knight in plate. Though personally I will admit that I've never visualized, or played that way. SDLeary
  16. Remember that Pendragon is designed to be a reflection of Arthurian Literature, and that one of the biggest pieces of this, Le Morte d'Arthur was published in the 15thC. Curved swords begin to appear in Persia and surrounding areas in the 9thC. Also, Scimitar seems to be a European word, not one that originated in the areas where such swords originated. Im not a linguist, but it appears just from the words themselves that the term is probably an English or French corruption. SDLeary
  17. Also, if you can find a complete copy of Enclosure #1, there is an insert that is a lightly formatted copy. SDLeary
  18. And to muddy waters a bit more, but in a slightly different direction... When do the differences between Veneration and Worship come into play in these situations? Could it be that DDB, while worshipped in the Holy Land simply be venerated in DP (known but well outside their area of worship)? Are Hero's worshipped, or merely venerated? Are Ancestors venerated, but once they convince a shaman to gather a following and hold worship services, they become greater spirits/gods and thus it becomes a spirit cult? SDLeary
  19. Progress! πŸ˜‰ I would like so suggest (yes its early, but why not dream a bit?!) the classic Chaosium two book approach: Basic Role Playing: Worlds of Wonder – This would be a book that is basically the current SYB (Small Yellow Book) heavily edited for consistency in system and language; to make sure that everything makes sense. It would also include four somewhat generic settings. A basic Fantasy (Southern Reaches?) setting, with Magic (from BGB) presented. A basic Supers/Modern setting with the basic Superpowers (from BGB). A basic Sci-Fi setting with basic ship rules, etc. And, of course, a basic GM section with advice for the new prospective GM. Another way of doing this was covered some time ago in another thread, whereby you simply do a slipcase that presents full blown Magic World, Superworld, and (insert SciFi name here) World, but those were suggested as full blown stand alones, and would take more effort. Basic Role Playing: Companion – All other rule options, that include not only a presentation of the subsystem itself, but notes on how to integrate it back into whichever core version (RQ or Stormbringer) of the rules are presented above. Errata (if not released concurrently with the first book), other magic, powers, tech. Perhaps more extensive GM advice. As stated, just dreaming. SDLeary
  20. Finds, or re-finds in one case, have been coming pretty regularly over the last couple of years. SDLeary
  21. Agreed... all I see in section 2 is about Melee combat: and: It's issues like these which have kept me using RQ3 as the core, and then pulling things over as I feel need. RQ3 is simply the better at skirmish combat (IMO). Especially if your group is using minis, but also in my brain as I can visualize it better. SDLeary
  22. Hmmm... polished stone weapons as opposed to knapped. As the vast majority of these would be axes, maces, hammers, or other various war clubs they would have to be treated differently. Not only because they are polished, but because the stones used are generally not as prone to fracture. In fact, they should probably be treated as normal weapons of of whatever category they belong in (perhaps with the exception of axes, which might not have a Special?). Though I might say that at the end of a combat, the user might have to make a luck roll to see if their weapon has been damaged. I don't recall ever seeing (please correct me if I'm wrong, would love to see one) a polished stone spear or arrow point (it would be a lot of work to make arrow points that way). In Glorantha though, they might have something like this, but it's probably a trade item as I can only think that something like this would be created with a form/set type spell. And might be kept as a trinket or decoration only because of its unique nature. SDLeary
  23. Sounds like Greg was was talking about Invocation, calling the spirit into ones self, presumably to utilize abilities; as opposed to Evocation which is represented by the normal summoning rules. Incorporating something like this into the rules would open up roleplaying a bit more when "hunting" for spirits. More opportunity to bargain with them, make pacts, and so on if you can call them into you and use their abilities, at least for a bit. SDLeary
  24. After thinking about this overnight, I would say that stone weapons are ablative. The first time that you hit metal (bronze or iron, or any of the other rune metals), you are capable of doing full damage. However this imparts damage to the striking head that is not AP/HP (depending on your preferred rule set). Second hit, you drop the damage one class; say from 1d8 - 1d6, lowest being 1d4?? After this is exhausted, then you have a fine spear shaft that you can try to use as a quarterstaff, and assuming you survive, can be fitted with a new head. SDLeary
  25. Yeah, I remembered that after posting. But, using this method would mean that the sheet bronze would probably be "hardened" as formed into the cuirass. What I had on my brain (I blame Tod, been watching lots of his vids lately; twas a backer) was fire hardening, as was done with some iron breastplates. SDLeary
