  1. The Vehicle chart on p. 267 shows both attributes for vehicles: there is a Rated Speed and MOV for each vehicle. On p.265 in the descriptions of the attributes of vehicles, it explains that the Rated Speed is used in the abstract chase rules, and the MOV is the maximum speed of a vehicle in a combat round. When I read the chase rules on p.216-217, it seems that there is no connection between Rated Speed and MOV. As I understood it, the two things are exculsive of each other. The chase rules are used in abstract abjudication of a chase sequence; whereas, the MOV score is specific to a combat round.
  2. Well, under the Derived Characteristics section on p.31, it states same thing for a human's MOV attribute: the unit can range from 1-5 meters, with an average of 3 meters per unit, which means 30 meters per combat round. This is exactly the same under the MOV score for vehicles on p. 265: Mov has a sliding scale of 1-5 meters; this assumes a median value of 3. Hence my confusion.
  3. Hi Jason, I have a question about the MOV attribute. A normal human has a MOV of 10 and a chariot has a MOV of 4 (according to the vehicle chart). Does this mean that a human can outrun a chariot? Also, the vehicle chart shows that a horse has a MOV of 4, but in the bestiary section a horse has a Move of 12. Could you please briefly clarify this for me? Thank you!
  4. hehe...I'm in the same boat. My two-year-old must have received my love of books...she tries to get her hot little hands on any of my books. Luckily, I still have about 2.5-3 ft. height on her now
  5. Yeah, the only I could mine for the Marky Mark film is the cool costumes and make-up.
  6. Yeah, there is some wackado stuff in the original booklets
  7. hehe...yes we are talking about different movies I loved the computer animated Beowulf- it fracking rocked!!!! The intro scene with Grendel was awsome! :thumb: The movie we are talking about is Beowulf and Grendel. BEOWULF and GRENDEL Official Movie Website
  8. I have the original three booklets. The thing I liked the most about it was the way he dealt with Hit Points. A low-level warrior could stand next to a high-level warrior and not fall in the first or second round of combat. There were a lot of cool combat ideas. I played with a group that used the booklets, and it was extremely high-powered. It was a little too much for my tastes, but there are many gems to be mined from the booklets. I know it was later developed into a full RPG. Thanks for the link. I am going to download it and take a look to see how it developed into a full-blown RPG.
  9. I am glad that it finally arrived. I am sorry that it's damaged; hopefully it's not too bad. Now, get home and get a nice steaming cup of coffee or hot chocolate and read! :thumb: It really sucks about the whole shipping thing; Chaosium did say that all orders would be shipped on the 17th of December.
  10. I'm totally cool with that, and that's exactly what we did. A vampire accounted for a TPK in our GunQuest campaign.
  11. Yeah, just the thought of playing the level of hygiene accurately almost makes me gag for real!
  12. Exactly. If you grew up a sodbuster, then it is for background flavor only. If you're going to play an Old West campaign, then there are going to be gunfights and players are going to develop those skills. My group created a game we called GunQuest. It was the time that the group was transitioning from RQ3 to 3rd GURPS, and it was heavily drawn from GURPS Old West. I found some old notes and details about that campaign and game. I was thinking about posting it, but there are so many gun fanatics here that I fear I would be hammered for it. It was seriously deadly. Seriously deadly. But it was fun as hell. We had a race and occupation roll. Eventually, it came that two groups of characters started hunting and killing each other. Our group had no problem with PvP fights. We were into roleplaying our characters. It boiled down to the fact that some characters would roll the Outlaw occupation and some would roll the Lawman occupation. Then the other players would either become outlaws in the gang or deputies of the lawmen characters. *Disclaimer* -I used the term 'gun fanatics' in a jovial and fun manner. It was not a dig at anyone on this forum. If there is one thing in RPGs that divide players completely, it is the subjuct of guns and gun damage. Our game used simplistic gun damage based on calibur. So, for example, all .22 guns did the same damage.
  13. Yeah, I'm not that pleased with the humans of the movies. Nova eventually learned to speak, which means that humans had the capacity for speech. If they were slaves for speaking apes, then wouldn't it follow that they would eventually learn to speak? I think I would blend the TV series concepts with the movies. I would make the humans of the movies an isolated group of humans that had serverely de-evolved. They would be regional. So that when players start exploring the regions farther away from the ape city of the movies, then they will more than likely encounter human societies of varying degrees of culture and civilization. There isn't really much that I would take from the newest Marky Mark version of the franchise. I would take the visuals and organization of the ape military only, I think.
  14. I am in Colorado, USA and my copy was shipped via USPS (United States Postal Service).
  15. Well, in this movie they never made the connection between King Rothgar and Grendel. In this movie, Grendel's father was hunted and killed by Rothgar and his men. Grendel was a small child that Rothgar let live out of compassion. Also, in this movie Beowulf never interacted with the Sea Hag until the end when he killed her in the cave. Beowulf asked King Rothgar why he killed Grendel's father and he said that he crossed their path and took some fish. They never explained the connection between the Trolls (Grendel and his father) and the Sea Hag. In this movie, Beowulf slept with Selma the Danish witch. Selma already had a son in hiding by Grendel. It was disjoined and left much unexplained.
  16. Well, it's not necessary hardback for me as it is hardcopy. I love books and the printed word. I like the smell of a new book. I like holding a book in my hands. I don't want to see books become obsolete. You're right, some hardback gaming books are terribly bound like the old Unearthed Arcana from 1st AD&D. I think that book fell apart with my first reading.
  17. Well, I just got done watching Beowulf and Grendel. It wasn't that terrible or cheesy. The cinematography was great. There were some really great location shots. Very beautiful long shots of the country. The costumes were great and realistic. The armor and weaponry was cool looking. I have four issues with it: 1. The actors were mostly Scottish and had thick accents which made difficult to understand at times. It made it hard to suspend disbelief that there were Danish or Norsefolk. Also, the actress that played Selma was American and so her accent was a stark contrast to Butler's Scottish brogh. 2. They never really explained what the troll Grendel was. He was protrayed as some kind of neanthradal. Then there was his 'kin' which was some kind of sea hag. They never explained the connection between the sea hag and Grendel. 3. It was slow and chopy at times. 4. The used the word "f***ing" a lot. That really blew the disbelief for me. If they would've not used modern slang and cuss words, and kept more historically accurate, then I could've looked past the Scottish brogh from the actors. But, when they use those words, then they sound like modern Scots. Grendel and the Sea Hag were obviously costumed, but I wouldn't say that it was a terrible job of makeup. Overall, it wasn't terrible. It was a little slow and left some things unexplained, but the cinematography, sets, and costumes were cool. I would go out and buy it immediately add to a DVD collection, but if you get the chance to see it and you have two hours, then go for it.
  18. hehee...that's funny. I have that movie on Netflix, and I'm going to watch it tonight. I'll let you know how cheesy it is.
  19. If you click on the link 'Tiwesdæg Clíewen', it says that the page doesn't exist yet. Was this a TV series that ran in Australia?
  20. Yeah, I'd say it's a reasonable inference that apes were genetically altered or manipulated by humans before the fall of civilization. Also, I would also postulate that there might other human societies that are not as backwards as the humans near the ape's territory.
  21. Planet of the Apes would be cool if you stayed away from them coming to the 1990's with the baby. Also, you forgot about the Marky Mark version. Happy New Year!
  22. It seems I am of the same mindset: large core books I need in hardcopy, while I can manage with smaller PDFs. Anything under 50 pages is good for a PDF, but trying to read anything longer makes my eyes go fuzzy.
  23. Heck ya! Blaster, laser, flechette, stun, disintegrator, plasma, sonic, electromagnetic pulse... good stuff!
  24. I (we) used Idea rolls mostly for character's memory or profession related ideas. Since you really can't penalize the player for not remembering information that the character would know or remember. I (we) used Luck rolls extensively. It is a great tool for moving the story along, or interjecting tangent sources of adventure.
