  1. I wonder if the RQG pdf will be bookmarked? That would be very helpful
  2. To be fair, Lovecraft has got a musical, 'A Shoggoth On The Roof" ๐Ÿ˜ (PS: sorry about the double post - I could not work out a way to delete the second one...so you'll just have to take more SANITY loss if you listen to it!)
  3. No one is proud of everything that happens in their country, or what shady deals happen behind the scenes, or what goose has got what job ๐Ÿ˜ Not weighing in too much on what likely is a sensitive matter in the States, but whoever sits in the big chair doesn't define an entire nation, and it's only temporary anyway. I think it's the notion of national self-pride that counts; it's a concept that has held generations together. Not in an inclusion/exclusion way either, but in a thankful dignified way. I'm proud of my little seat in the sun down here, and I would like to think that others across the pond feel likewise about their own patch.
  4. You are all wrong, Conan could not be an Animal Nomad In my classic RQ/BRP Gloranthan game (which is canon for a very small troupe who may remember such), our Conan stand-in called 'Rangos' came from the Praxian wastes, but he rode a horse. Given that we figured he must be a PolJoni. Rangos would probably be happy to drink and fight alongside Bison Riders, and certainly hated Chaos. However Rangos would not be stupid enough to do a pilgrimage to The Block to hunt down Chaos with those Storm Bull Beserkers. He respected Waha's ways to an extent, but lived a life more worthy of Orlanth Adventurous. Pillaging The Big Rubble was more his style, and putting the wind up the Lunar garrison in Pavis. Last known reports of Rangos is that he is a mercenary for Broyan of the Hendriki, and may be in a spot of trouble down in Whitewall...
  5. This looks good. Paolo stop forcing me to spend money, heh heh
  6. Lou Zocchi totally rocks ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  7. I have nostalgic memories of using the SR system in RQ2 and RQ3. The 10 rounds of RQ3 SR combat round felt 'neater' for some reason, but I see why RQG has gone back to the RQ2 version to keep things consistent with the RQ2 stat blocks in the RQ Classic reprints. Despite such, I can see why BRP games moved into the DEX ranks system instead, it may have solved some of the issues arising in this thread.
  8. I prefer quick character gen and simple character sheets these days, so I would have preferred that as a default. I would have been happy with a sheet similar to OQ or MW, just add Runes and Motivations/Passions. That way expansion books can always add intensive char gen and more extensive sheets; that works for me. I do also love the extended family history life path char gen process, but just think that should not be the default core rules. I feel that the default these days should be a simple sheet, if you want to get numbers thru the gates. You can always add to it for those who want more.
  9. Oh I'll probably end up buying a the RQG corebook, that will be my gaming table book. Then I'll get the slipcase 3 volume set for the bookcase, to sit next to the slipcase of CoC 7E. That's how I'll roll ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  10. I don't think that if the Brits had remained in charge of the colony that you would find your gaming freedoms restricted today, but Happy Independence anyway! Good to see some national pride; there are lots of reasons for you to be proud of your country. Enjoy those 4th July celebrations! ๐Ÿ˜
  11. Yeah that would be great, and crikey if Felicia plays I will know I'm dead and gone to heaven ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  12. Yeah that's what I'm a-waitin' for ๐Ÿ˜Ž
  13. Another name suggestion: 'HeroQuester" We can even keep abbreviating it as HQ ๐Ÿ˜
  14. Excellent idea, although I suspect Matt Mercer may be D20-centric, especially given his strong connections with D&D 5E. I reckon add Wil Wheaton to the wish list with his Tabletop show on Geek n Sundry. His show tends to reach lots of people, when he did Fate Core and Fiasco apparently their sales skyrocketed. I know that he has also referenced Call of Cthulhu with enthusiasm, so he might be willing to try out the new flashy line of RQG.
  15. Same here. I could only find the earlier Bestiary link as well - I thought it was just me...
  16. Yes, I couldn't have said this better. Totally agree with this ๐Ÿ˜
  17. This sounds great that HQ remains committed to Glorantha. I'm looking forward to Dragonrise, but using Fonrit as a 'Sword and Soul' setting sounds interesting. I remember Kethaela being discussed, with an Esrolia/Notchet book , and other settings in that region. I'm more than happy if this gets published as general Gloranthan Genre Packs rather than specifically for HQ. You can always sell additional RQ and HQ stat blocks pdfs associated with such, if people don't want to handwave it themselves. It makes sense for alot of Gloranthan products to be produced this way, it will save too much cross duplication between RQ and HQ products. I prefer RQ to be used for Glorantha, but in any case I don't mind picking up new HQ products for Glorantha as well. The HQ stat blocks are almost generic in many ways, and very easy to port into any other system. I do love the HQ system however, and really looking forward to it being used across a wide range of settings and genres! In fact I think it can do a much better job of this than BRP can do, it just needs the right promotion. I see HQ as one of the few good FATE rivals out there, and its something I one day envison transitioning my FATE players to. It is a shame on the pending name change, but I understand the legal issues associated with the previously dormant Heroquest board game Personally I think the new HQ title could be logically called HeroQuester; HeroQuester is such a similar name that current fans will associate it as the same game as HQ, and it sounds just as good as HQ. It will also make sense if HQG remains published as HeroQuest Glorantha, then this core generic book will seem linked with a name like HeroQuester. Plus we can still shorten the name HeroQuester to HQ! ๐Ÿ‘ Just puttin' it out there ๐Ÿ˜
  18. I play games regardless of their art. But I do buy books because of their art and production, and nice hardcovers are conversation pieces. Having great art in a hardcover book is definitely going to grab more people's attention these days.
  19. RQG looks great. I love the ancient world flavour, I mainly bought it for Glorantha anyway. I've been playing a RQ3/BGB mix of Glorantha for years, and my group will just play things the way we have for a while, just adding Runes & Passions. I'm happy to go either way with the initiative system. Played the DEX +D10 rules for years, although I don't mind returning to the old SR system (although we mainly used RQ3's 10 SRs not RQ2's 12 SRs, but no issues). I guess I'm happy that RQG is consistent with the RQ2 products I have, as I can see myself running lower-skilled RQG characters through the classic Pavis/Big Rubble/Borderlands scenarios pretty soon. I'm looking forward to the Bestiary, GM Book, and the slipcase edition of all three. As far as not having any rules for Disarm and such, (which came up somewhere in these threads), well anyone new to the rules won't have an earlier edition to compare it to anyway, and can just find out about it in the GM Book. However for pre-existing fans, it's easy enough to work around - either port in the Disarm rule from an earlier RQ edition, or if you have CoC 7E then just handwave it under the Maneuver option in combat. I am more into simple rules these days, so I would have preferred less crunch with RQ. A version like 'OpenQuest with Runes + Hit Locations'' would have worked for me, but I'm strangely happy with how this edition looks so far anyway. I'm also considering converting The Red Cow Campaign into RQG, it should be pretty easy to handwave those stats. Happy to show this RQG book off, and hopefully we'll see some RQ getting played again in gaming conventions around the world RuneQuest Glorantha? Yeah count me in!
  20. Well, for starters, the RQ2 Defence stat is gone, replaced by RQ3's Dodge skill. Which is good, as Dodge has been in all the Chaosium BRP games since RQ3 (to my knowledge). However most core structure looks more similar to RQ2 than RQ3. APP is back to CHA. Cool. Hit Points also went back to RQ2 's version, which feels a bit odd now that I have been doing (SIZ + CON)/2 for 30yrs. Not a dramatic difference however, and I guess it allows all the RQ2 reprints to be used with RQG, which is a smart move.
  21. This is great! I see HQ as a market rival for FATE rpg, and would love to see a wide range of genres played with it. ( BTW add me to the list of those who agree that Crits need to be a roll of 20, not 1) A new version is certainly welcome - this is great news! Now we just need a new name for it...
  22. I think my post has been taken out of context. I was merely trying to reinforce that not every fantasy from the UK is 'dark', and not every fantasy from the USA is 'bright'. Lord Of The Rings vs A Song Of Fire And Ice is a reasonable example. Tolkien's book is rarely referenced as Dark Fantasy, whereas Martin's series often is. I was pointing out an overall flavour, so it was intended as such. It was not an analysis of Tolkien's body of literature by a long shot, nor was it intended as such. It was a broad brush stroke, I think that's easy to see. Tolkien's material is not new to me. Over the last 30 years I have collected the majority of his legendium, and slowly getting thru it all. I am just waiting to get The Story of Kullervo, and The Fall Of Gondolin (when it is released). I know his work can be tragic. That wasn't what I was referencing. Nor was I wanting to discuss Tolkien's work in depth, so lets not start. But it seems to have derailed this thread a bit, so now I have justified myself, I won't keep it going. This was, after all, about a Dark Glorantha, not Middle Earth.
