If we simply roll under.. I don't see the point of converting to D20... I am kind of traumatised by D&D and getting the D20 out makes me sad.. 😞 The one good point about D20 conversion would be, I believe, to do D20 + bonus vs 10 + bonus / D20 + bonus

On the (possibly dreaded by some) technoptimist camp.. I'd like to add, I read somewhere recently something along the line that they were about to simulate a fruit fly brain full neuron network completely (as in, biological neuron behavior)... so getting there (by copying existing template..)

This not even close... Though you never know.. but it will be more luck than told you so... It's easy to guess, when they say anything more than 10 years is usually wishful thinking.... and even that!

I am not sure where this discussion is going! ^_^ On your last point... it's not so clear, you imply you dont want to go towards some pseudo future some scifi warn us about. But 1. some might want it hey? 2. many times people were against something yet it happens. For example, and here most example would be inherently very controversial... but I think I can pick a safe one. Nuclear weapons. Most sensible person would the world to get rid of them. Yet I suspect it's not going to happen. Worst still, I suspect the number of nuclear capable country is only going to grow (albeit very slowly). Now, maybe I am a defeatist and it's totally worth thinking about it... sometimes that works too! Basically my defeatist argument is money talk and ethic doesn't talk much... Now to leave you with a completely different idea.... They had a short snippet about just that in New Scientist this week! 🙂 And I got another idea.... Not so long ago (allegedly, I think it was just an opinion column) people were concerned by the alarmingly growing number of family with pets. People will lost touch with other people. But now.. we moved on, nothing to see here... Or, when I was a kid, I played D&D... OMG! There was some crazy kid committing suicide because his character died, or satanist sects were using D&D to recruit people! Nowadays D&D is fine, but OMG all those kid playing video games! They are losing touch with reality! 😮 (so am I, almost 50, still playing! 😄 ) Scifi and literature is here to shock and challenge you. But the reality is much more mundane and innocuous, I will predict....

It's an interesting topic, and I got plenty of ideas and reply... But I fear, I can't express myself with clarity, nor is my ultimate vision clear itself, not that I care much about the direction our society will ultimately take either... And also, with almost every single sentence you raised many different topics! 😮 But since it is all an interesting topic here are various arguments or ideas that are to be considered, I think.... - all life is not so different than machine. in some ways we are superior, we can reproduce with just a bit of dirt and water, auto repair, are much smarter (for now), but we are weak.... and perhaps one day machine will be smarter and replicating... - in a way why would have a machine less or more right than a chair? a cow? a pet cat? another human? it's really a matter of global social consensus (and also how much they can argue / defend their case) I think the most likely proponent of robots rights will be isolated rich eccentric (not to worry) and corporations (they will own and produce the robots, robots rights benefits them, that could be a worry) - machine intelligence might be one day far ahead of all organic, and we might be lulled into anthropomorphism ("hey, alexa"), but it is the most alien of all intelligence. and even more alien that real alien since it has none of the evolutionary imperatives and drives of all organic lifeforms... and it can also be overturned at the flick of a button... - are we going toward a more desirable future? I fear whether we agree on what is desirable or not, the future is decided by forces largely oblivious to ethics and moral concerns... sometimes for the better.. sometimes for the worse...

Hope you like it.... I think you might be confusing 2 issues. Whether we can create human level (or even higher?) machine intelligence or not (and also look & feel, for the case of sexbot, for example). And what do we do or care about it.

Speaking about World War 3 and other true stories.... 😄 I can only recommend the "Murderbot Diaries" (by Martha Wells), reading it right now, it's quite rad! 🙂

Godam handwritten notes! 😒 In the America chapter there are a few handwritten note left by Jackson Elias and .. I cant read them! Ok my eyesight is not that good.. but glasses do not help nearly enough 😕 They are both using spidery small letters and blurry...

I thought about it, after speeding through CoC rules.... What decided me against it eventually (in favor of an easy +20/30 modifier) was the list of bonus / malus one can apply when using projectile weapons against various target...

After much thinking I think I will stick with multiple of +-20% or 30% (still undecided) Multiplier are great, but my group is bad at Maths.... 😕 Some for special/crit.. will go only, 1/10th (drop the unit) and 01.

SIZ is already exponential.. every +8 in SIZ is double the weight! 😉 in a way it justify the way the resistance table works... but one could argue it contradict how 1 POW = 1 MP....

Hey! Allosaur SIZ 60 is about 4 times bigger, or 64 times heavier than a mere human, so I don't mind it's impossible to parry with a shortsword! Though.. something can still be done with a large shield (hence a build benefit to shield parry).... However: 1. Dodge would still be done at normal skill, which I thin is the way to go 2. I decided to settled on the same solution that Barak suggested (Before he said it in fact, I just forgot about it 😅), i.e. each weapon/shield simple reduced damage by its parry value and let pass anything above... that is a perfect gray value! 🙂

Actually, speaking of aquatic space culture, it's too much disbelieving for me and (industry as underwater culture goes against my vision of technological evolution, often starting with fire, and maybe smelting metals), while I want to follow MoO lore, well Trillarian have aquatic as an option, so I'll jump on it.. 🙂

That hit on a problem I have trying to write adventure in general (and even more so for my work in progress MoO setting), I don't like "universal opponent", but hey, adventurer gotta fight something right? I am not very happy with whatever I come up with most time either... 🤔

OMG! In the Appendices of the The Masks of Nyarlathotep I spotted what seemed to be, correct me if I am wrong please, the most powerful spell of all! Blessing of Bast: bla-bla-bla..... restores D6 HP and also restores D6 sanity point... (cost: 4MP, casting: instantaneous)

I don't really take player aside, because I don't like to create tension between players... However it occurred to me that, if a character is, say, mentally influenced while alone and that if I take the player aside to do that, perhaps I can successfully create more drama that way!? What say you?
