  1. As far as we know, is the Cults Book going to include the spells for each cult, or are they going to be separate in 'The Big Red Book of spells.'? Is the second volume of The Cults Book, the Big Red Book of Spells? Thanks in advance!
  2. 1/ It should be a 1d100 table surely? 2/ The entry for, 'A Meldik set fire to it' is missing. 3/ The entry for, 'My Dragon Snail ate it.' is missing. 4/ The entry for, 'Zorak Zoran whapped it.' is missing.
  3. Dogs and birds, I hope it's a big field...
  4. Does she have a brother called Clinton Eastwind? Also, somebody's been watching too many musicals...
  5. It may be a close toss up, people have lots of reasons for not going out and sometimes need a little encouragement [speaking from my own experience], but when they do really enjoy it I can't remember the number of times I've heard someone say, 'I didn't want to come out tonight but I'm glad I did!' It's only a little thing and you are right, it's not really a big [or even a medium] influence but it doesn't have to be. the real point is even if everyone [GM included] is crap and everything goes tits up there is still something positive to come out of it besides ticks. In 40 years of gaming I've seen a few. I also think that if you can get the players to see that it can help, even in small ways, it's not, 'cheap'. I must admit I'm not keen, and I usually give the players the edge/hint if a critical is coming their way to give them as much opportunity to make that parry or dodge if they can, but I'm more than happy to try it out in some form to see how it goes. 1/ I hope you enjoyed it, I know I did, I would like to carry on to find the true solution. 2/ Thank you. 3/ Yes you have a point, I do find that RQ:G is an uneven blend of RQ 2+3 [Experience and starting skill are give out in lumps of 5, but experience gains are 1d6. And other stuff.], and think the the passions/runes are too powerful [at GC most of the reffs used a very modified version of the Passion/Rune rules, I don't know if it was just for then], but not flexible enough though. I think I might raise the starting amount by one so that people get on average 5 a session. What I found isa that people tended to round their skill/what have you to the nearest 5 or crit/special mark so if they were at 72 skill they might round it to 75/80/90/95 etc or multiple of 4 for example. Giving out less for more effect is definitely a possibility, but would skew the effect on improvement roll and before/after, a big change but maybe a worthwhile one. I have enough time at the mo that I can spend 30 mins on working them out for the group before the next session but while they are away, I don't think I have ever done while they are present. So they are never handed out in-game, which means that good stuff sticks.and I have time to sit back and sift through the session. Delayed gratification for them players! I would definitely give out a goodly amount [not huge] at the beginning of the first session so that the players could see their effect and want to get more. Thank you. Yes I kind of understand, I don't think it hurts though and I don't think it takes anything away from the game [maybe it can?]. People are still there to have fun and if they ignore them or aren't happy with them, I would be happy to drop them. I can understand that marking players can feel awkward, but I try to hand them out according to the level each player is at, so 'the best' isn't what it's about. In the groups I've had, character progression/development is a big motivator, and everyone wins if the group is motivated even a little bit extra. Depending, but I've often found that groups can be really magnanimous when it comes to giving a small amount of RPs out to others, guided by the GM of course. Thanks for your input everyone, more please!
  6. Sorry I have been away from this for so long, I wanted to give my replies thought and time, and I've been quite busy during the time since I last posted, but now can pay it some real attention.
  7. Yes, I did have a hint really, but I was too lazy to correct, and it made no sense not to!
  8. Thanks for the feedback. I think I was a bit unclear, the points would be divided equally, say there was a total of 15 and 1/8, with five players, everybody getting 3 each, with the players voting on who got the extra 1/8. With the GM having any tie breaker. I would only be a small boon and not that often. If everybody just voted for themselves it could go into a pot until it could be divided equally or a GM pot... Or perhaps I was, I can see your island point. Yes, that could work well too, it depends on how well the players know each other and how balanced they are as friends. If you had someone who was not part of a clique, you would have to be careful. I've not tried it that way, so my voice is limited.
  9. Last W/End I had the pleasure of playing in David Millians session for Glorantha Games 2010, set in Kralorela. It used a new idea called Draconic Mysticism. This brought to mind something I used about 20 years ago, a reward system for my RQ3 campaign set in Pavis et al. It was a reward point system for good RPing. Each session a number was given out to each player. One point was given for: 1/ Turning up. 2/ A Good Idea (doesn't have to be acted upon, players are dumb). 3/ Playing in character. 4/ Cooperating with others. 5/ Not being really dumb. 6/ Encouraging others to join in. 7/ Pleasing the GM, keeping the game moving, (though this doesn't mean not getting side tracked by things in the game only things outside), keeping the mood, anything else. 8/ GM's whim. 9/ Not dying, not through just good dice rolls. 10/ Bravery, though not foolhardy! *Note. I think there were only 6 original criteria, though I'm not sure which ones I've added, No1 was always there though! 6,4,9? I think 7+8 were combined. All these are relative, someone who rarely has a good idea would get a full point for one, but someone who is the brains of the outfit might only get 1/4 of a point. Turning up is always a full point. At the start of each new game or new character joins that players should start with a small total to ease them into the campaign and encourage good gaming. 10 might be nice. Points used for: 1/ Adding three(3) to any skill or total before the roll is made, for example, Pow x 5+3, Roll to pass Runelord test+3, climb skill+3. 2/ To add 1 to any roll after the roll is made. See examples above. Any roll can be affected. This of course goes for improvement rolls! 3/ I think I also used it to put a limit on the number of skill roll improvements players could make in down time. It could stop players using skills just to get a improvement roll. But I can't remember and don't have the stuff to hand at the moment. They carry over from session to session as well. As long as the player wants I must admit I was influenced by WoD, but by just how much I can't recall, and I'm pretty sure I expanded and modified it. But I do owe it a great debt. I tended to give them out at the beginning of the session, gained from the previous one, so that I had the time in-between to think it through. I also gave them to players without telling the others, though they generally told each other. Notes from now. I would also possibly give them out for player decisiveness and character goals, to dissuade the sit back and 'entertain me' mentality, and also, any plan is better than no plan! One way might be to have a group total and divide it equally, and anything less than 1/4 given out by player vote (ish) rounded up to the nearest 1/4. Feedback much appreciated!
  10. Jeff mentioned a Sartar Book when talking about the Cults book on the Facebook page. Perhaps I am reading too much into this but I wondered if the Sartar book was coming out sooner rather than later? Here is the link if anyone is interested. https://www.facebook.com/groups/RuneQuest/permalink/1764710963704895/ You might have to cut and paste. He talks about a double whammy, which is what made me think this.
  11. For me I'm very much in the middle ground, that HeroQ/W went too far in, 'This IS a new deity that ISN'T Orlanth really, and the fact that it name is almost exactly like his and is found in the same area, and has exactly the same runes and has a very similar function is purely coincidental, Honest.' and RQ:G's, 'This deity over the other side of the world which has a completely different role, different runes and a different place in its Pantheon, REALLY IS Orlanth, Honest.' Is bad too. People new to the game don't need to know about the whole world, and if they want to, Chaosium should have bit of trust in them and not treat the like children. What would really also help is having a better index in publish materials, a glossary even. The ones so far are awful. A index and glossary should not be an after thought, it should be one, if not 'The' first thing this type of book should have.
  12. Feels like far too much of Glorantha is being shoe horned into Dragon Pass with 'funny hats on'. Fook that for a game of soldiers. Kudos to you, aumshantih, for going against the grain. Maybe see it in print one day? The Kralori WIP isn't him by the way. My point about contacting him was that his sailors (PCs) were visiting all sorts of places in the East, so he might have some ideas about Vith, not about info for other lands your players might visit.
  13. I don't know what his handle is on here but it might be worth talking to David Millians on Facebook, he's the guy who has done the Kralorela manuscript and I know he was doing some piratie stuff around the East so he might have some ideas for you. Hope this helps. A.
  14. Sorry, I should have been more specific. The information about the Yelmalions and that they, 'lord over enslaved and magically crippled descendants of the Kitori as mercenaries'.
  15. Can I ask where this information is, please? Is this just your interpretation/campaign?
  16. Sorry, where should I post for next time? Thanks for the info, I know one of them is still available in print, but it was others I wanted.
  17. Hello, is there any timeline if/when any of the paper copies of Gloranthan Classics are going to be made available again? I know 'never' is a strong word, but is this a possibility?
  18. Won't somebody think of the children!
  19. Like trees in a strong wind, I'm sure these rules will bend. That means priest is still open. Aren't Woodlords the ambassadors of elf forests? All these rules are abstractions and as elves are seen as part of their forests 'defence' would be pretty liberal in its use. In the past Aldryami have gone to war with other races, and killing Trolls and Dwarves is a mercy for them.
  20. I've seen Shannon about on one of the RQ Facebook groups, what about talking to him direct? He can always say no. P.S. I would be very interested too.
