Soccercalle
Mastery is one of Orlanths Rune but a Rune without any rules. Some of my Orlanthi players have asked me about it. I suspect that the Rune will be described more in the Cults Books and/or hero questing rules. How does the rest of you treat the Rune?
David Scott
I ignore it as there are no spells dependent on it. There are no rules about it in the upcoming cults books, it is the mark of a hero. 1 Quote ----- Search the Glorantha Resource Site: https://wellofdaliath.chaosium.com. radmonger
My take is you gain a rating in it when you become a Rune Lord. it is actually that rating gives you the rules benefits (easier divine intervention, etc) associated with being a rune lord. If you later gained more mastery rune rating, then you might get additional benefits. That's when people might start calling you a hero. The Orlanth cult having the mastery rune means getting that initial mastery rating is a normal part of organised cult progression, with standardised rewards. Individuals from other cults might get to a similar end point by heroquesting. but they would be blazing their own trail. The same principle applies to rune priest and the magic rune. And perhaps shamans and the spirit rune, and wizards and the Law rune?
Godlearner
I am thinking of using it as an "Insight" Rune for sorcery for any one other Rune which would give sorcerers a chance to cast other spells for which they have not mastered all the Runes, although at a higher cost. kalidor
Mastery rune, you use it to activate powers or spells gained in heroquest. As any other rune it can go up. Also you use it to activate heroquest techniques.

Mastery rune is key for Heroquesting and powers you get from it. There is a new character sheet just for that. CHA, POW, passions, Runes and mastery rune plus techniques.

This character sheet is here, in sketch form. More hints here and here. Follow the links in the article to Bryon's recording of the game and you'll hear Jeff explain the heroquesting rules (which were still a work-in-progress at the time so there might be tweaks by the time they are published). PM me if you want my notes. Edited February 6 by Lordabdul 2 Quote Ludovic aka Lordabdul -- read and listen to The God Learners , the Gloranthan podcast, newsletter, & blog ! whitelaughter
Orlanthi can easily increase the Rune by simply casting Common Rune spells with it; 5% chance of success vs 5% of losing the Rune point is a good deal if nothing else is going on. Mind you, once the Rune is >80% expect the character to be power mad/control freak/generally authoritarian.
