  1. Thanks for the encouragement. I am still hammering away at it and several sections just came back from the editor, so things seem to be going full steam again. Sometimes I just get overwhelmed and I feel that it just will not get finished. I may take you up on that as I start doing the final edits. Excellent! If you need the map (it is basically the same as the original one) let me know. The Green should still be able to port pretty easily into any fantasy setting. It is not as vast as once discussed though. The area I am covering in the monograph is several hundred miles across about the size of the American South or Midwest. It does stretch to the south for an undetermined distance though(allowing for expansion).
  2. Welcome Back Rurik. I have been working on the Green and trying to turn it into a monograph, with mixed success. I would certainly love to see what you have put together, but again, I am not sure if I will be able to put much time into anything. Several times I have thought about forgetting the monograph thing and just posting everything I have back into the shared world. It would be cool to see the shared world concept get some love again. Maybe there are some people who were not around originally that would be interested.
  3. I don't know if this is what you had in mind. I slammed these together pretty quickly and I think a little more could be done. Let me know if anything like this would work?
  4. I have not gotten that far yet, but I can tell you that you are an NPC in one of the adventures. (Guess who's ?) You hang out with Shaira's gang of taxcollectors and wear rusty armor. So far I am loving this monograph. So much so that I am only allowing myself to read a little at a time. It really showcases what BRP is capable of.
  5. This is a very good idea. I wish it would have come up a little earlier. I do not know if I will be of much help here, but I have noticed that some of my creature stats for the Green are a little different than those in Aces High. I can easily bring them into line though. The two that I noticed right off were the Ghost and the Saber-tooth cat. I have a system for alchemy, but I do not know if it will work with other paradigms though as it is not based on traditional Alchemy, like permutation, the arcanum and the philosophers stone, but rather like primitive pharmacology or herbal lore mixed with magic. One thing that has been bothering me a little is the Elementals. I wrote up stats a little different than those in the BRP book as those seemed a little too potent and I liked the old RQ way of scaling them up. I am not particularly confident in the results. Has anyone else struggled with this?
  6. A western was not really something I was looking forward to, but I am very glad I picked it up. After a quick scan of the book I am dying to blow the smoke from the gun and spit tobacco juice on scorpions.
  7. Whooo Hoo. I am heading over to make an order now. The big problem, as usual, is whether I order the PDF or the print version.

    The Green

Thanks for the encouragement, it helps to keep me going. Nick, if you feel like this type of stuff could make the cut and you have any need of images for the next copy of Uncounted Worlds let me know. I am a fan and would love to help out in any way I can. I can do full character cuts like this pretty quick and easily. Backgrounds and more interactive stuff takes a little longer. Just let me know what you are looking for.
  9. I may be able to help a little. I pretty limited in what I can do, but if you let me know what you have in mind I could try and whip something up.

    The Green

Originally I thought I would be done by last October, but a whole bunch of real life problems occurred and jammed everything up. Things have been pretty slow going since then. Most of the basic stuff is written and I am waiting for it to be edited. I have been trying to work on Scenarios, adventure hooks, and stating up personalities right now. This is really the last stuff to be written but I really do not know how much of this stuff I will really be able to squeeze in. As things get closer and closer, more and more stuff needs to be re-written and adjusted and that is what is taking a lot of the time. In the long run I think it will be up to the guy who is editing and how fast he can work. He is very busy though and works in spurts. If there is one thing that I have learned it is that I have no idea how long certain things will take. If I absolutely had to guess, I would say mid-summer, but that is like heaving blind artillery shells. Thanks for asking though. It is nice to see that someone is still looking forward to it. P.S. Another thing that has been taking an awful lot of time is that I have been trying to learn how to make semi-presentable pictures for the book. The problem is that I end up having more fun doing that and then I put off the writing a little. Here is an example of a couple of pics I was working on.
  11. This is a question that has been really gnawing at me. I have been attempting to put together a monograph and I often run into gridlock when pondering this question or set of questions. The big one is: Man, it would make things sooo much easier just to put in stats like the basic BRP book without hit locations. Hit location also eat up page count which may be a major factor.... On the other hand... I always found the statistics books very very valuable when I was GMing. So much so they became my most used books. I constantly used Fangs, the encounter book from Borderlands, and later the encounter book from Monster Coliseum. Reading through books and scenarios was one thing and fun on my own time, but those premade hit location encounters were my bread and butter when it came to actual gaming. So as a hopeful writer I would rather keep things very simple and keep the book at a decent page count, but as a gamer and consumer I am very much in favor of including Hit location charts and would gladly pay a good deal extra for them. I am still very much uncertain about this stuff and what I should include, but it is good to hear from the experienced writers and how you are dealing with the issue.
  12. The Book of Uz in the RQ2 Troll Pack has a great list of giant insects and spiders including: Giant Ants, Centipedes, Crabs, Beetles, Flies, Bees, Locusts, Moths, Peripati, Scorpians, Praying Mantises, a plethera of Spiders, Solpugids, Stingworms, Termites, Ticks, Wasps and Vinegaroons. Hopefully these will be of some help. I have recently been digging through this book because I am working on kind of a giant jungle setting in need of all sorts of giant creepy things. I am looking forward to see what you come up with on this little Project.:thumb: Woops, on a second look I see you have most of these on the list. The Giant praying mantis is missing though.
  13. Good work. I am looking forward to seeing the art matched to the statistics. I alway find things much easier and more fun to read when there are pictures. I never really grew up. I have been working on a setting that has a couple of the same critters. It is cool to see what other people have done with them. Good luck with your project.
  14. I do not know if this fits the bill at all, but I wanted to mess around with a couple sci-fi type pictures and thought Enki may be a good place to start.

I thought I would practice on something more familiar.

Thanks. Pictures like 1 and 2 are very easy to do. I suppose I should stick to the more close up shots. The other ones were a pain and took hours. The problem is with the smaller images is that they loose detail when I try to use the painting effects. I spent hours on that stupid dinosaur and never could make him look real. Here are a couple of others that I was messing with. Hopefully, I can keep learning as I go along. The last two are close ups of the Leopard-Goblin guys. Maybe they will look better separately rather than in a big pic.

Thanks rust. Here are a couple more.

I have been doing a lot of messing around with a digital camera and photoshop to try to get some art done. Here are a couple of attempts. The last one needs a lot of work. I was just trying to see what could be done.
  19. It is sure looking Christmas like around here. It has not stopped snowing in days. Wish I could spread it around to everyone My snowblower keeps getting bogged down and is rolling fumbles in this thick stuff. Happy Holidays
  20. I just noticed this in the download section. Wow! It is huge. Thank you very much Sladethesniper. Seems like sort of an early Christmas present. I of course have not read the whole thing yet, but after a quick scan I can tell you obviously put a lot of loving work into the setting. I am looking forward to reading it. Thanks. :thumb:

Of all things, I think I have that laying around or packed away somewhere. I know I had it at one time. I never played it, I just bought it on a used rack one time. I'll dig around. Thanks.

Yep! Making a better story is really behind the whole thing. Particular types of wood or metal may be "treasures" in their raw form because in the hands of a master artisan they could become great works of art. Master artisans might hire characters to find a particular tree that grows in a dangerous area. All sorts of adventure possibilities. Master Artisans could become strong characterful NPC's. It would be nice to think that if they spent more time and effort on an item or made it with special materials they could turn out a superior product more often. Seems like that would work pretty well too, particularly because it draws focus on the differences between valuable materials. The other thing I was playing with was Traditions/Cults/Magics. This could be more trouble on the balance thing. Wouldn't a magician who specializes in trees/wood magic have a bonus or even a spell that helps them craft wooden items? What about folk who may specialize in earth or metal magic? Might they have magical advantages when working with iron or bronze? The other thing I was thinking about is whether characters could have to make their own cult/tradition weapons, sort of a right of passage thing. There seem to be a lot of old stories where heroes need to learn to forge their own weapons to truly take on the status of hero. One thing I was trying to work on was a tradition called arrowdancers where spells called arrowchants were like foci and built into the arrows and just activated when fired. Different arrows must be crafted for different spells. The arrows/spells have to be pre-crafted to gain the magical ability and are generally one use. I have not really thought it all out yet but I kept bumping into these issues and was hoping I could find a little add-on system that could work to tie my imagination into the game system a little better.

One of the big issues, is the stacking of additional damage and to a lesser extent, skill bonuses. Having many of these items out there could scale up the game pretty fast. It does not sound all that complicated. But it would be nice to be able to add those things at least one point of damage or +5% without a critical roll. The RAW allows +5% +1 damage for a Special, +3 or +15% for a crit. What if a artisan could only add One of each virtue with a special. No stacking. Only on a critical could they add 2 additional damage or 10 skill bump. Another Crit to bump it to the +3, 15% level. That would allow weapons with a little boost to be fairly common with a skilled artisan, but still keep the potencial game wreckers pretty rare. I was thinking about that as well. I believe it would be more in the spirit of the BRP rules. It would also bring down the refining/adjustment roles more quickly and thus the important specials. I kind of liked the way the -25% scaled down better, but I have not really tested the thing very much.
  24. I had not heard of Midworld when I first started the Green, but an old friend of mine suggested it when he heard about the setting. I loved the book. The opening lines of the book fit the Green perfectly. There was more written about the Green here, but I am attempting to turn it into published monograph and the stuff had to be taken down as a condition. Hopefully there will be more on the Green in the not terribly far distant future.

Do you mean in total, as a cap, or for each individual item? One modifier that was higher than +15% was superior material. I suppose I was kind of thinking of the possibility of special magical substances here (I am still thinking in terms of the Green), but I believe you are right and it should be lowered. The other modifier that was above +15% was HP's of the item. I am very wishy washy on hp's of items. Would 15% work better? I suppose it depends a lot on the item in question. Set HP bonuses do not seem to work well either.
