  1. I like games when everyone laughs. A lot.
  2. BRP's current published version makes CoC a lite version. There is a whole lot to digest in the BRP book. Try the Quick Start Rules (should be enough if you use the magic from the RQ2 book). http://catalog.chaosium.com/product_info.php?products_id=3700
  3. I'm cool with that. It actually works better for me next weekend anyway.
  4. I just wanted to say that "a world gone mad with killing" is about as awesome as two comets colliding in low orbit.

HA! I said "wow" out loud when I noticed this thing had reached 9 pages. I think any real discussion dried up around page 4.
  6. I will only be able to make the Saturday for this pair of sessions. I'm running a game myself on that Sunday. If that's a problem, I understand. If not, I'll take the Hunter.
  7. I'm glad they're available legally now for the reasons you've pointed out, but A) $20 seems a bit pricey for a pdf and I would never choose a pdf over a printed copy when the price difference is so negligible.
  8. I spoke to Rick via email less than a month ago, and he said that $30 included shipping (in USA). I would have no problem ordering these and sending them to anyone in Europe that wants them, so long as they cover the expense. PM me if interested.
  9. Considering the only one of these that they don't still have hard copies of is Pavis/Big Rubble, why is everyone making such a big deal out of this? They are a ripoff when you can buy a printed, perfect bound copy for ten more dollars.

Pretty much why I stopped commenting after page 3 or so...
  11. I finally got around to ordering copies of this and Rome, and they arrived this morning. Both works have blown my expectations out of the water. I already read a good chunk of Rome via torrent earlier this year, but CotAC is all new to me. Thanks a lot to everyone involved in the production of these two books. Some of the finest rpg supplement production of all time, imo.
  12. Try both, then pick the one you/your players like.

I agree with your sentiment, and like I mentioned earlier, I considered adopting the MRQ1 system for skill improvement. The thing I can't conceptualize is the skilltard being that big of a deal in the first place. Minor irritant, for sure, but when I think of problems I've had with gamers over the years, I don't think more than one or two rules issues make my top ten list, and they were straight up cheaters.
  14. I'd be down to play, but since I'm 7 hours behind you, it'd have to be on Saturday or Sunday for me to make it.

I see what you mean. I guess I have had a few players over the years like that. I remember a guy who played in a CoC game I ran years ago who was always pulling random nonsense to increase skills he would never actually use in a way that helped. He died when tinkering with a dynamite stick _in a large hotel in downtown Chicago_. He quit playing after that and would only play board games with us. HA! But, my statement still holds water. Although what you speak of does happen, just as many times the guy planning and doing all the running around is increasing a lot of his character's maths just by being an active player rather than a good use for a chair.

When we started our classic fantasy campaign, we borrowed a lot from other systems. This was one of the options that I put up for a vote to my players. I did not have a single taker. I can't honestly think of anyone I've gamed with in the past 20 years that would prefer a standardized system that is "fair and balanced" over one where you are rewarded for what you actually do in game. That includes level based games like D&D, dice pool games and roll under/over games. I see that as a major flaw. Even players I've played with over the years who contributed little more than a body at the table have noted that when a system like that was in place to regulate experience acquisition (I played in an AWESOME D&D campaign early last decade that started out that way) it didn't seem fair for those who contributed less to be awarded the exact same reward. That's why I've preferred the skill based systems over the years. I'll play damn near anything, but I prefer to play a game where my character's statistical attributes are at least a somewhat accurate representation of how I play them. But, in the end, it's really a matter of taste, and I'm sure there are groups who would prefer a more evenly distributed experience pool for their games. I'm definitely not one of them.
  17. The movie version punked Dracula... One of my many issues with Blade 3... The comic version of Blade wasn't all that badass until after the movies (he was primarily in comics that only had him fight vampires, and held little, if any, continuity with Marvel's main universe), when they basically took the movie character and ported him to the comic. He rarely showed up in 616Marvel, and when he did, it was with/against mostly peripheral characters. Now things are different. One of the next Wolverine stories has Blade and Wolverine at cross purposes, and I'm sure there will be at least a 3 or 4 page spread of them at each other's throats until they finally realize, as in every comic, "we're actually both on the same side". Does anyone here read comics regularly? (I realize I've put this thread to bed) A storyline I expected to see Blade in came out in 04 or 05, in the New Invaders (totally underappreciated mag). There was a few issues dedicated to Captain Britain and his mates, and the main story during that period was a cult of vampires. The story involved a lot of characters' unfinished business from the 40s-70s, and had an AWESOME/HORRIBLE antagonist that was little more than a vampire baby. I was so disappointed that it didn't go anywhere, but it was a little extreme for Marvel...
  18. Now that you mention it, I definitely remember an October sale. I sat out of the last one on purpose because I thought money was going to be tight over the summer. That assessment was fortunately incorrect, but I missed out on the sale by thinking responsibly, so I need to make up for it the next time there's a sale. October seems like a long way off right now...
  19. I declare this thread temporarily resurrected. Just curious if anyone knows how often sales happen. I missed the annual sale this year and have a number of books I'm wanting to snag.
  20. That's similar to how I handle it, but since I've made Parry/Riposte a skill, it's governed by the iterative uses when over 50% rule.
  21. I use it and it's never been a problem. It's actually a separate skill in my games, though.
  22. That looks pretty cool. Is there going to be a print version, or just electronic?
