  1. I don't have anything against the new version of Agon, but they removed most of the mechanics from the first edition that made the game special. I think I will stick with first edition.
  2. A long time ago, I think in 2015, I saw a post indicating that Pete Nash of Mythras fame was working on a book where you play heroes in mythic Greece. I haven’t asked about it recently but I don’t doubt it’s still progressing. If it turns out as good as BRP Rome it will be worth the wait. I also understand that Chaosium has a completed document for a Homeric Greek game using Pendragon rules but it has a lot of stuff ahead of it. The original title was Before Iron but now it’s Myrmidon. Others pointed out Diadochi Warlords for Mythras but there is also Warliords of Alexandria for BRP by Zozer. I understand that the two settings are mostly the same with just the rules being different I also would recommend the first edition of Agon (not the newer kickstarted one). It’s not BRP, and it’s a little “different”, but every element of that game is designed to deliver Homer’s Greece to its players. I haven’t played it yet but I understand it’s incredible!
  3. Ah - I see! You’re basically trying to build a case to win over your D&D group! I can see how your approach could be effective, especially if your players tend to think of gaming in mostly D&D terms. The only compendium of BRP spells I am aware of is Call of Cthulhu’s Grand Grimoire and it seems ill suited for a D&D style fantasy setting (at least the ones I have been involved in). Having said that, I did create a table in Microsoft Word that aggregated and summarized some of the spells from the Big Gold Book, Magic World and Advanced Sorcery that I though my novice players at the time would be interested in (they were playing D&D 3.5 previously). PM me an email address and I will email it to you (assuming. I can find it on my laptop - it’s been nearly a decade). It probably only summarizes 30 or 40 spells but they tended to be tactical / battle style spells like the ones my D&D players were used to.
  4. Just to make sure I understand… You said you are 87 pages into making a master list of spells. Are those spells from your D&D campaign that you have converted to BRP or is that an attempt to compile all the spells across all relevant BRP variants (Big Gold Book, Elric, Mythras, OpenQuest, Magic World, Renaissance. etc.)? In the first case you might want to check out Classic Fantasy for Mythras from The Design Mechanism as the author has already done the conversion work for a lot of D&D spells. Also a quick look at their site suggest there is a second book available called Classic Fantasy Expert Set which offers even more spells. If you are trying to compile all BRP spells or all BRP fantasy spells then I wish you luck. That’s going to be a large task!
  5. That’s wonderful news especially with so many companies shipping POD versions these days. I can’t wait!
  6. Thanks Ian, for that link. It was a great article and though it led to me making a three hour deep dive on things related to Traveller, it was all very useful. I’m going to check out Pirates if Drinax today and will likely buy it to run in M-Space.
  7. Well, since I have been “mostly” reading scenarios / adventures that I plan to run in M-Space, they could be for any variant of Traveller, however 90% of the stuff I’m reading (particularly ship design stuff) is for classic Traveller (3,black books). Mongoose has a good bit of stuff out there for thru version but classic Traveller has way more. Note I am thinking of buying Pirates of Drinax from Mongoose though. Sounds to good to pass up!
  8. Hi all, A couple of questions. One for anyone that has bought the PDF and one for Chaosium... 1. I understand that the sanity mechanics in the new book are different than what is in the Call of Cthulhu book. Can anyone share how the new sanity rules work at a high-level? 2. I understand that the printed Basic Roleplaying Book will be available next year. What type of binding will it use? One of the things I love about the older BGB is it's sewn binding. Thanks!
  9. Thank you, this breakdown was very helpful. I will pick the new "BGB" up!
  10. Subscribed. I have been thinking about running a hard sci-fi game soon and since I love BRP (and also because I’m too lazy to learn Traveller), I had planned to use M-Space or maybe Stars Without Number since my group already knows those rule sets. However as I read well regarded sci-fi scenarios (which are frequently for Traveller), I am more and more tempted to use Traveller. Two reasons, first is that some of the best Traveller scenarios I have read seems to rely on a kind of ship design / ship construction mini-game that I think might be hard to emulate in other systems. M-Space has something like that (it’s super cool) but it’s not sufficiently compatible with Traveller that you could easily reverse engineer and leverage the ships found in many Traveller supplements (feel free to correct me if I have it wrong). Which brings me to to my second reason. There is a gigantic, whopping, absolutely insane amount of material available for Traveller. And I am not just talking about adventures / scenarios but also things like ship designs, settings, fanzines and even forums and blogs with mountains of usable ideas and data. With all these riches I might never need to design a Traveller ship again. Last night I spent 3 hours sorting through more than 130 pages of post from Traveller enthusiasts that were trying to reverse engineer the Traveller ship Annic Nova in order to ascertain its backstory. I haven’t seen any other sci-fi game yet that generates that level of fan commitment, game ideas and hooks that I can leverage. It’s very compelling. Now don’t misunderstand, I love BRP and M-Space, but man, there are definitely a lot of reasons to choose Traveller for hardish sci-fi gaming..
  11. I totally wasn’t expecting anything like this! I wonder to what degree they updated the BGB? This is a must-buy for me!
  12. Man I just need to send you a check! Thanks! Will read it... now...
  13. Hey all. Y’all might want to read JP’s Lollipop, Lollipop. I enjoyed it a lot and can’t wait to run it!
  14. There is this for BRP but I don’t read French so it might not be a match.
  15. For straight gold book BRP there is Operation Ulysses and Outpost 19. If you expand For a little less straight BRP there are scenarios for Cthulhu Rising, M-Space, and at least one for Mythras. I think New Horizon also comes with a scenario.
  16. Hemulaformis you show an amazing combination of system mastery and GM smarts and you haven’t ever been a GM before? Wow I’m impressed. I’m with David, I would apply a 20% penalty to rolls assuming it’s a good sized fire. I would also roll con for smoke inhalation damage.
  17. I look forward to your future posts!
