  1. In RQ2/3, you lost the spell when you traded, as you gave away the casting. You could trach an adventurer by when they cast the spell and when it came back to you. Don't you lose the use of the Rune Points in a spell trade? If not, I'd houserul that to be the case. We played that an Issaries Trader could charge double and would cast the traded spell immediately, thus allowing it to be regained, so that worked as more of a Gift Spell than a Traded Spell.
  2. We used to play that Defensive spells were those that were not cast on someone else and which did not increase your attack chance with weapons. So, things like Strength or Coordination are not defensive, as they increase your attack chance, albeit as a side-effect. Demoralise, when cast on yourself, perhaps to counteract Fanaticism, is defensive, but not when cast on someone else. To make things easier, we just said it is an offensive spell. In my experience, as soon as you have a list of spells that applies, someone will publish new spells that are not in the list and you have to start over again. If you have a general rule, then you can apply that rule to new spells. There are some grey areas, of course. Sunbright in RQ2 is a defensive spell, but demoralises some creatures of darkness, so it that an offensive effect?
  3. I suppose it all depends on whether you classify Dehori as any old darkness spirit or as descendants of Dehor. If Dehori are descendants of Dehor, then Kyger Litor is not a Dehori. If they are generic darkness spirits then she could well be called one of the Dehori.
  4. Tradetalk was inherently magical, as Issaries created it to be easily understood by anyone. As for a spell that allows anyone to be understood by anyone, sure, it is possible to make up such a spell. As to who would have it, I am not sure. A Communication Deity, maybe Herald, maybe someone new. However, a party meeting another party without a common language is a good roleplaying experience and it would be a shame to just have a spell that overcomes that.
  5. Or a Zorak Zorani HeroQuestor with gifts of Double Damage against Humans and Double Damage against Humakti on his Troll Maul, with a few dollops of Crush.
  6. Aurelion made Aurelion's Breakwater in Pamaltela in such a fashion. Time for the Volcano Twins to shine.
  7. Oh, why couldn't you have posted this a couple of months ago? I could have had so much fun with the Block floating away and a gigantic gnarled hand breaking the surface of the waters.
  8. As would Asrelia's Cavern. I can see a lot of cults working desperately to stop the Flood (The Thunder Brothers stopping Worcha, for example) and many cults mitigating the effects of the Flood. Burying things in the ground, hiding them in magical protection areas, covering buildings with an upturned boat, all could be used to prevent the floodwaters from affecting a certain spot. The Tricksters have a capital city that is effectively a huge dome that stops the waters getting in, perhaps all you need to do is ask Eurmal cultists to protect your town, what could possibly go wrong?
  9. Thanks for this. It was about a month too late for our campaign, as the PCs stopped the iceberg from blocking Magasta's pool and moved it to the Creater instead. Harrek wanted to sail up the Oslir, for various in-game MGDV reasons, so the Flood would have reached the Oslir watershed. In the end, the River Voices were so appalled at the idea that they decided to do something very magical to stop it and ended the campaign.
  10. Thanks for sharing this. Now, all we need to do is to wait for Google to allow other Fints into their Sheets and then to allow different fonts in a single cell and we can use Gloranthan runes natively. I worked out how to do this in Excel years ago and it makes character sheets so much better.
  11. Thanks for this, I was too busy playing a game to attend any seminars at Continuum, so missed this.
  12. From what Jeff said at Eternalcon, it seems as though there will be a series of supplements, that can link together.
  13. I think Flesh Man is described as a son of Grandfather Mortal, so could well be the first human. Grandfather Mortal put himself about a bit and played with a lot of deities to create the First Whatever. I can imagine that he played with some deities and created something that seems like the First Human several times. For example, Lodril made the Agimori from Fire and Dust and I can see Grandfather Mortal playing a part in that, as that is exactly what he used to do. I can't remember the origin of the Brithini, or whichever race they spawned from, but I would guess that Grandfather Mortal was involved in that, so their First Human would also apply. So, there would be two examples of a First Human, as each sets of humans have a different origin. So, if you accept that there can only be one First Human, then it makes sense that all the ones you mentioned are the same First Human. However, if you accept that there could be several different First Humans, then they might not be the same. Mythically, they occupy a very similar point, though, so would have a lot in common.
  14. We played that iron doubling was compatible with other spells, as it happens after everything is taken into account. So, a Humakti using an iron broadsword would do 1D8+1+1d4 on a normal hit. Rolling 10 and hitting a troll with 7 points of armour means that 3 go through, but as it is iron, this doubles to 6. The same Humakti with Bladesharp 4 would do 14 damage, so 7 goes through, doubling to 14. With Truesword, he gets an extra 1d8+1, so rolling 4 means damage is 18, so 11 goes through doubling to 22. We also played that "Such and such effect does double damage to a type of creature" works the same way as iron, so doubles after all absorbing magic/armour takes place, so all examples in the previous paragraph are doubled. To me, there is no point having a "Double damage against trolls" gift that doesn't double with iron, as why have it on an iron sword? Humakti with such a gift are especially dangerous foes. Thise with multiple gifts on the same weapon are even more dangerous. A Humakto with Double Damage against Trolls and Double Damage against Undead would be very potent against troll campires or a troll mummy, as damage would double twice, if the weapon is iron then penetrating damage would be x8, so 1 point would take a locatoin down.
  15. RuneMasters went down very well at Continuum 2018. We had something like 14 games running over 7 sessions, but might have been more games. Everyone looked smart in their T-Shirts and the sign-up sheets stood out on the sign-up baords. I think everyone had a good time playing and GMing the games. Now, all we need to do is to work out how to export the RuneMasters experience to other countries and other cons. It is just a GM Collective, so we can have members from all across the globe.
  16. Some of us have been at Continuum 2108, having gaming fun.

    Genetic memory

In Revolution, this would just be an Innate Power, in Mythras the equivalent would be an ability, in Legend a Heroic Ability. I wouldn't try and map it to a current Mythras ability or power, as it is a new thing. basically, if you rolled your skill, you can access the memories, if you critical then you access more/deeper memories, if you are looking for something obscure then it gets harder.
  18. We have always played that MultiMissiles affect one target. However, we have a RuneSpell that allows MultiMissiles to be slit and affect multiple targets, only available to certain cults. I think I gave it to Saggitus.
  19. It looks like a human female fighter to me.
  20. I was really looking forward to Continuum 2018, as, unlike some other years, I was in good health and had the right state of mind to really enjoy it (Health 70%, Mind 80%). RuneMasters were also debuting and I was looking forward to running a game and playing in more. I had also booked to play in two Freeforms, so was looking forward to that. We arrived slightly late, due to circumstances beyond our control, so missed the start of Slot 1, but I have never been able to make Slot 1 so had low expectations of playing a game then. Check-in was painless and very friendly, the room was surprisingly cool, especially bearing in mind the hot weather. After unpacking, we went to Asda to stock up on some snacks, which I said I wouldn't do after not eating half of them last year, but repeated my error and bought far too much. The Game Slots were full of games, in fact there were more games than I have ever seen at Convulsions or Continuum, which was a pleasant surprise. It was also good to see branded RuneMasters sign-up sheets in the slots. A new innovation was tried this year, with Sign-Up sheets for the current and next Slots going up at the same time. This was an excellent change and meant that we could plan our games a lot better. There had been some confusion, as some GMs thought that the Convention would have completed Sign-up sheets, so hadn't brought their own. Opening Ceremony - The usual sort of thing, or so I had thought. The Committee introduced the games, Freeforms, rules and what-not, but also had a Safety Policy, where people could report harassment and various other problems. We have never had this before and it is good that Continuum are moving with the times and have one, but it is a shame that we need one. Then, two people renewed their wedding vows, with their friends around them which was touching, moving and very nice indeed. Slot 2 - Monkey Ruins Everything (Monkey, RuneMasters Glorantha) As I was a bit tired, but wanted to play, I chose a RuneMasters game, which was the most immense fun and my Bonobo PC married Orlanth and became Queen of the Gods. Thanks to Dan Barker for GMing this. Finished just before 12am and stayed up for another hour before admitting defeat. Saturday morning, I made it in time for breakfast, which was bacon, sausages, mushrooms, hash browns and cereal, very nice and what I have come to expect from Continuum. They had no muesli, which was a shame but not the end of the world. Slot 3 - Green Tide Rising (HeroQuest, RuneMasters Glorantha) A really good HeroQuest game, where we forced back a magical tide of green from Caratan. Thanks to Dr Moose for GMing this. Lunch - The Chilli con Carne was just too hot for me to eat, so I had a Beefburger and Sweet Potato Fries. I have no idea who came up with the idea of Sweet Potato Fries, but they just didn't work, soggy, unappetising and unpleasant. The Beefburger wasn't much better, the burger itself looked to be a good chunk of meat but had no texture and very little taste. This was disappointing, as we had been promised, in the Opening Ceremony, that the committee had worked with the University to improve the food on offer. Slot 4 - The Secrets of the Thunder Hills(RuneQuest Glorantha, RuneMasters Glorantha) Another excellent game, from the forthcoming Gamesmaster Pack, wherein we faced up to a dragon that was attacking the area. It was interesting to se RQG in action and it impressed me as a system. Thanks to Simon Bray for GMing this. Dinner (Or Tea as I sometimes still call it) - Salmon in milk with Basmati Rice and some veggies, this was much better than the lunch and reasonably priced. Slot 5 - A Bard for Rashka (Freeform) Wherein, I played a bard and had an absolute hoot, fully enjoyed it and was engaged all the way through. Was a bit worried that wearing a coat was too much in the warmth, but was thankful of it when it cooled down a bit. The only downside was that I was carrying a painful infection and it burst partway through the game, ruining my costume but relieving the pain I was in, however, I missed a crucial part of the game, I hope nobody noticed. Thanks to the GMs and Players for a most enjoyable Freeform. Again, stayed up talking until about 1am and then retired gracefully. The bar had run out of lager and, as I no longer drink spirits as cons (Some people will know why) I was on pepsis for the evening, which was probably for the best. Sunday morning, breakfast again, same as Saturday, nice enough and no complaints, except for the lack of Muesli. Slot 6 - A Heroic Death (Freeform) I was a little tired from the night before and struggled to get going. I also forgot about one of my abilities and used another quite poorly, so was nowhere near as effective as I normally am, which was a shame. I wasn't anywhere near as engaged as I had been on Saturday night, so decided on a holding action. However, I still enjoyed the game, despite my sub-par performance. Thanks to the GMs and Players for a most enjoyable Freeform. Lunch - Avoided the beef burger and sweet potato fries, as should you all, and went for a pizza, which was big, tasty and reasonably priced. Excellent. Slot 7 - One Flew Over the Dragon's Nest (HeroQuest, RuneMasters Glorantha) I was running this and was a bit apprehensive, as I wrote the scenario based on a title that I thought was cool/funny. It seemed that the players and GM all had a good time, so it looks as though it went well. Dinner (Or Tea as I sometimes still call it) - Honestly can't remember what I had, but it was very tasty and reasonably priced, so was pleased with my choice. Closing Ceremony - Everyone said thank you, clapped a lot, the Committee thanked the players and GMs, the audience thanked the Committee, the RuneMasters draw was held and everyone will be back next time. The Safety people were not called on during the Con, which is a good sign and what I had hoped would happen, not because people do not want to report things, but because there was nothing to report, long may that continue. There is a chance that Continuum could become annual, which would be excellent news. Also, Jeff Richards offered to run a Glorantha Freeform next time, which is also excellent news. Slot 8 - Ducks on the Red Moon (HeroQuest, RuneMasters Glorantha) This was a by-invitation only game, for the RuneMasters and was a wind-down game whereby we played Ducks who had jumped on the tail-end of a HeroQuest to Duckify the Red Moon and were sent to find the Golden Egg that contained the first Flying Duck to be born for many a year. There followed 2-3 hours of complete silliness, where duck gags and puns abounded, threats were made, PCs killed each other and we were almost TPKed by the Crimson Duck. The poor GM, Andrew Jones, tried manfully to pull us back to the plot, even having to remind us at one point that we were in fact searching for the Golden Egg, as we had all completely forgotten. Possibly my all-time best achievement in Convention TPGing was when I cast a Play Dead Illusion on the party when the Crimson Duck attacked, only for the Humaktis and Storm Bull to fly off against it, but the Humakti turned on each other and killed each other, as they looked like moving corpses, i.e. undead, an all-time Trickster high. It was even sillier and more fun that Monkey Ruins Everything, which is high, high praise indeed. Thanks to Andrew Jones for GMing this. Again, I stayed up till just after 12am, but the last few nights caught up with me and I retired. Monday morning saw me arrive just in time for breakfast, then I chatted with people, had a shower, packed and put things away, ready for the drive back to Birmingham. Many thanks to Darren for giving me a lift to and from the con and thanks to Pookie and Tim for relating their stories of the Con. So, in summary, I really enjoyed Continuum 2018 and it is probably the best organised Continuum/Convulsions that I have attended. There were so many games that we were spoiled for choice. The Freeforms were good, at least the ones I attended were, having the RuneMasters added a lot more Glorantha games, so much so that I only played Gloranthan RPGs. I played something in all but one Slot, only missing Slot 1 because we arrived too late. I met with some old friends, but didn't have much time to talk to many of them. In fact, this was the best Continuum/Convulsions that I have attended and ranks alongside the Trollball Tentacles convention as the best ever RPG Convention that I have ever attended. The news that it might become annual and that we would have a Gloranthan Freeform next time makes we very happy indeed. How long until the next one?
  21. This all came from a conversation in the car when returning from Continuum 2016. We agreed that it was good, but there were virtually no Gloranthan games being run. So, rather than just moaning about it, Darren set up an informal group of Gloranthan GMs who could commit to running a Gloranthan game at Continuum 2018. He then set up a facebook Page, got more people involved, got a lot of help from Chaosium and snagged some space just for the RuneMasters. Dan Barker got some T-Shirts printed and Chaosium supplied something for the prize draw. So, it has grown from just an idea to get more Gloranthan games at Continuum 2018. Now, of course, it is semi-official and it might be possible to have RuneMasters at Dragonmeet, UK Games Expo or EternalCon, assuming that curfrent RuneMasters go there, or new ones can be recruited. RuneMasters for Ropecon? Why not, sounds like a great idea. PM me your email address and I'll pass it on to Darren, so he can pass on his words of wisdom about how he set it up.
  22. Bah, you and your proof! Thanks for the reminder.
  23. Not keen on the rules and not keen on the "Chivalric Medieval Knights in the Dark Ages" vibe. I know that people rave about it, but I can't see myself running it.
