  1. The Law rune is missing from the list of runes on pages 5-8.
  2. Actually, I tend to agree, but you did bring up the subject in the first place.
  3. Darius: This getting even more OT, but I feel an obligation to set the record straight. HQ allows for powerful characters, but in no way necessitates them. In fact, its actually easier to have a mixed power level party using HQ than most rpgs because the ability ratings represent how the character affects the story rather than some supposedly objective scale of how powerful they are. Samwise "loyal to Frodo Baggins" ability can be just as high and as useful and Gandalf's "fire magic" or Boromir's "kill things". The problem of overly broad abilities is addressed by the specific ability bonus/broad ability penalty rules. Take a look at the new Coming Storm book. It's meant for characters who are locally powerful, but not world-shakers.
  4. This is getting a little OT, but HeroQuest can be every bit as gritty as RuneQuest, it just depends on how the GM applies the credibility test. Likewise, Runequest can be quit superheroic (people hurling lightning bolts and sunspears). Any rules system is a lens through which Glorantha is perceived; neither is any more correct than the other in defining how the inhabitants actually live.
  5. I've found at least one precedent for Aldryami trading timber in the Guide to Glorantha on page 232 under the Yggs Islands section: "They maintain an ancient agreement with the elves of Winterwood which allows them a limited harvest of lumber and other forest products, in exchange for tribute and gifts."
  6. Remember that this happening gradually over many, many years not all at once, and that there is no reason to keep the timber all in one place.
  7. By non-Pavis settlements I was referring to those outside of both Old and New Pavis. I'm not so sure about Aldryami never surrendering trees. Their concern seems to me to be for the forest as a whole rather than individual trees (or individual Aldryami, for that matter.) The Mostali would have had use for the wood for precisely the reasons you sighted back when Old Pavis was intact. Afterwards they could have just kept to the agreement because they're Mostali, and didn't/couldn't change (stasis rune). They don't really need to have much to do with each other. The Aldyami just deliver as small amount of wood each year, and the Mostali gather it. No one even has to talk to each other. I don't see why simply burying the lumber (with proper Mostai preservation mechanisms, of course) isn't a possible option.
  8. Maybe it's all part of the deal the Mostali and Aldryami made with Pavis in the first place. The fertility magic that keeps the Garden alive will fail if the Aldryami fail their part of the bargain. Likewise something nasty would happen to the Mostai if they fail to preserve it and to provide it for use by the city. They may have stored it underground. There doesn't seem to be any history of warfare between the Pavis Mostali and Aldryami, indicating that they at least tolerate each other. As for the non-Pavis settlements, perhaps they use different, non-wood intensive, architecture?
  9. Here's a thought: maybe Pavis had a agreement with the elves of the garden to provide a certain small amount of timber each year. This was delivered to the Mostali, as they were the architects. After the fall of Pavis, with typical elder race obdurance, they just kept on delivering it the Mostali, who having nothing to do with it just kept it preserved, preventing rot by Mostali magic. When Dorasor showed up there was loads of the stuff around.
  10. But what about Leaping Place Falls? I'm beginning to think that any viable explanation for getting timber to Pavis requires a magical explanation at some point.
  11. Just to add even more confusion to this, the now non-canonical Men of The Sea supplement states "The Miirdekities are the seagoing folk from the peninsulas of Elamle and Onlaks, on the coasts of the Maslo Sea. They are tall and dark-skinned, with blond and red hair."
  12. I'm not sure about that, at least for all women. King of Dragon Pass features an unexpected pregnancy.
  13. That seems to make sense for the Yelmalions. Some of the other CoP percentages seem odd, though. For example, the Fire/Sky connected Impala had the largest percentage of Orlanth worshipers among the animal nomads (16%) and only 15% Waha worhippers. Have these been revised, or is there some explanation for seemingly strange numbers?
  14. I'm hoping that David will show up and explain the numbers.
  15. The Army Lists post gives the Vanntar unit twice. Was one of these meant to be Alda Chur? Why does a pike and shield unit have a missile factor? Are these statistics for the new miniatures rules?
  16. Some of these figures seem to be a bit high assuming that half the population is children and half of the adults are female. Applying these figures to the populations given in the Guide, over 25% and of adult male Impala riders and 30% of adult male Sable riders would be Yelmalions, Or have I missed something?
  17. I wasn't aware of the HeroQuest sub-forum when I created the first thread. In any case I think that it can argued that people looking for information on Glorantha specific supplement will look here rather than in rules forum. If the forum supervisors disagree, they can simply move this thread to the appropriate forum.
  18. You're correct that the 17 should be in either Earth or Life. The 13W in Harmony should be 11W at the most, as Christoph Kohring pointed out.
  19. Let's see: Page 18: Londrol Spear-Rattler should have a 17 in either Movement or Death. Page 19: Maklami Friend of Heroes (started on the last page) should have a 17 in either Earth or Harmony, while Rastalulf the Tall should have a 17 in either Air or Truth. Page 20: Koschei the Weary should have 17 in either Air or Death.
  20. Of course, even if there are winged trolls from Blue Moon Plateau it does not necessarily follow that all trolls from Blue Moon Plateau have wings.
  21. It isn't too much of a change, really, In any case we're getting a little off track, and I recommend starting a new thread if you wish to pursue this subject.
  22. I prefer the older version too, but realistically there's pretty much bound to be some variation in how the runes are presented across different cultures, times and even just different art styles.
  23. I'm pretty sure it was stated that that is just a Fire/Sky rune in a slightly different style. A true Heat rune, assuming such a thing still exists, would probably have a larger internal circle
  24. Both Olend Many-Moods on page 17 and Koschei the Weary on page 20 have distinguishing characteristics at 15 instead of 17.
  25. So The Coming Storm is out and already annoying fans like me are noticing some mistakes: Londril Spear-Rattler's Rattle-Born rating is just 1(it should be 1W) and his Movement rune rating should be 13 (or maybe 17?) instead of 13W, a picture of a Dragon rune on page 15 should be an Earth rune, and several characters have a 13 in their second rune instead of a 17.
