  1. I understand. It reminds me of my issue with D&D5. I do sincerely think that D&D5 is a very good distillate of older and newer editions of D&D. Does this make me want to play D&D5? Nope. Because, I already have games for any sub-flavor of D&D I might want to play (from Basic D&D to 13th Age). So I guess one might think BRP Stormbringer has already been done several times. Stil, I know I would like some more Stormbringer and more Corum, Hawkmoon. Perhaps more the scenarios than the rules. The Mongoose incarnations have been pretty meh on the scenario front (I mean Elric - MRQ Hawkmoon had the excellent Secrets of tragic Europe campaign by Gareth Hanrahan).
  2. I know nothing of Japanese editions of Stormbringer, but judging exclusively from the font of the title I'd say the book is 5th edition (around 2001) and the box is first or second edition.   4. Very Cool. I might well use them! But these are 1 on 1 scenarios. I meant solos like the old choose your adventure, Lone Wolf, Soloquest, Alone against the Wendigo etc.
  5. I guess the monster book is the most viable supplement to publish as a licensed product. I'd combine it with the section on campaign in the Southern Reaches to make it more setting specific. I think that many monster descriptions should be rewritten because they were largely taken from Gateway Bestiary (at least in the very early draft that I had seen).
  6. Mythras is indeed excellent, but it's very different from Magic World in feel. Mythras is very detailed, while MW was derived from the more rules-light Elric! system.
  7. For good measure, I'd just add I'd love boxed sets. Provided they are not too pricey and don't have flimsy booklets inside ...

  9. Well, actually coming from D&D I loved Rune Quest's skills, lack of classes (everyone casts a little magic) AND the gritty and exciting combat system. I shouldn't have said "epics" perhaps. I meant grand narrative rather than super-heroes. It was more like fairly normal people being heroes against all odds (cosmic horrors, end of the world, etc.). The campaign I still admire the most is WFRP's "Enemy Within". So the problem was not that RQ 2/3 was gritty. Rather it did not have its "Enemy Within" or "Masks of Nyarlatothep" or its "Rogue Mistress". I was more into "grand campaign" than "family-village-tribe growing up in a culture".

  11. I enjoyed quite a bit Alone Against the Flames. Are there any plans for further solo scenarios? Reprinting of old CoC solos?
  12. I did not hear 'BRP Essentials' mentioned in the GenCon podcast I listened to. Is this project still a go? I know that the focus is on setting specific games, but the idea of a really basic, compact BRP was kind of appealing....
  13. To the young player that I was at the time the main problem with the RQ3 boxed sets was that they were terribly pricey. As for their play value, I think it varies a lot. Land of Ninja and Vikings were great, even if at the time I did not get how good is the campaign sketch included in Vikings (Now I think it is great!). I found Griffin Island fascinating but sparse. When I finally acquired Griffin Mountain as a classic reprint I was "ah-ah" this was the real thing! And I had great fun playing pure sandbox with it. But that is recent history. Part of the problem is that my younger self had grown a precocious narrativist with a penchant for over-the-top epics and drama. At the time the more dramatic feel of Stormbringer and Call of Cthulhu had more appeal for me in term of setting and scenarios. RQ3 for me was mainly a great ruleset. For instance, Monster Coliseum left me utterly perplexed. Also because it costed a fortune. Now, I think it's kind of cool. A great resource for a GM creating his own campaign. I had the Genertela box and a few Gloranthan scenarios. Snakepipe Hollow seemed terribly old school at the time. I was like "OK I have already played the Caves of Chaos with D&D". We did not really start playing in Glorantha until "Sun County". That was really good stuff.

  15. LOL. That mirrors exactly my thoughts as well! I won't protest old school Orlanthi especially if they come with Alynxes. Great memories of my alynxes in the Dorastor campaign...
  16. It's maybe a bit too early to say what they would do. But it's very nice to hear that they are having positive talks with Michael Moorcock. Certainly, I know what I would like. A new edition of Stormbringer (yes, I much prefer this title to Elric! or Elric of Melniboné) as a compact BRP game keeping the simplicity of Elric! and the flavor of older editions. I want it to be substantially faithful to Moorcock but gameable, with a clear focus on the "core" of Elric stories (of course what is core is debatable: I'd certainly like the book to mention dreamthieves and the Lands of Dream but I won't cry if it does not have stats for the Karasim...). From the Mongoose editions I'd keep pacts, gifts and compulsions as well as passions. I'd also like it to have a short, conclusive, game line: 3 books, and then move on to Hawkmoon and Corum.
  17. In the podcast on ‘What’s happening at Chaosium’ there is interesting info on Mythic Iceland. They said that Pedro Ziviani has turned in the mauscript of the second edition.   18. Totally understandable decision. And not surprising. It is very interesting that Chaosium is open to "licensed" Magic World products. That's the real news in my view.

  20. Definitely. A huge lot of respect. He did a great job in putting out a very enjoyable game, working in very unfavorable conditions - as he makes even clearer in the rpg.net. thread.
