  1. Along the SF Bay coast, we dodged the bullet on this particular heat wave. Never exceeded 80F in my microclimate. Just the other side of the hills, 90's+. SDLeary
  2. Preview as default, unless fiddling with the PDF structure or commenting, then I use Acrobat. SDLeary
  3. Interesting, I haven't encountered, nor have I had any issues using Preview for Chaosium PDFs, save in the really old days when it simply would not accommodate really large files. I have also had few issues with TDM files; again mainly in older files. The one that comes to mind was one of the older edits of RQ6. Opening and looking at my PDF of Classic Fantasy right now in Preview (TDM500 Classic Fantasy Interactive May 2016), its nice, crispy and contrasty. Even in the dark rows of tables, the text is crisp and readable; though perhaps a lighter overall grey without the fade would have been better for readability. Looking at the same file in Acrobat Pro DC, the biggest difference is in the body font. Its finer, finer sweeps, ascenders, and descenders based on the typeface ( @lawrence.whitaker, is this still Warnock... looks too fine in Adobe). This, while readable, makes tables on the far left more difficult as the finer lines don't provide as much contrast. I'm really perplexed Bill... no clue why your experiencing the fuzzies! 🤷‍♂️ You might try PDF Expert. I've had good luck with it in the past, though I don't use it now. SDLeary
  4. I think these (or something similar) made it into Mythras Imperative, or the Mythras Companion. SDLeary
  5. and... In addition, I would probably add Difficult for attack as well, for the long weapon user. Not seeing anything specifically on damage bonus. And why shouldn't you be able to dodge when being attacked by someone who has closed on you? This is still a combat situation, not an assassin sneaking up on you from behind to deliver a killing blow. SDLeary
  6. If you are in Dagger strike range, then you are inside the ability of the swordsman to effectively use their weapon. In RQ terms (and I think these appear in the BGB too) you have closed. They must find a way to extend the distance. SDLeary
  7. You might want to pick up Renaissance or Clockwork and Chivalry as well for a similar era and for more option for black powder weapons. See the sub-forum on this site. SDLeary
  8. In this case, as pioneered by Ringworld. Rather than a skill category modifier, as in Runequest, you have a value (based on characteristics) that becomes the maximum for the root portion of the skill before a branch is required. The Root is always the default for the tree. Thus, you can have a Root along the line of Ships Systems 33, with a Branchs of Life Support Systems at 60, Deflectors at 40, and so on. This character would be better at the two specialization, but other systems that are not specialized would default to the root %. Sadly, it’s very fiddly in actual practice. SDLeary
  9. True, but with Root/Branch, at least everything would default to the Root%. An Engineer or Science character could have a chance. SDLeary
  10. Sounds like a variation of Root/Branch skills is needed. SDLeary
  11. Tod just decided to redo his tests against a sample of Gambeson, this time using sharpened arrow heads. Interesting, though not surprising results! SDLeary
  12. Yes, but the greater the damage value, the more likely the shield is to not stop that particular blow and lets all the damage through. Also, as it "counts" as armor, you could also factor in knockback. Or, if using as ships shields, say the shield doing its job might cause other small issues around the ship; think Star Trek when shields are bing heavily hit, and all the fireworks that happen on the bridge. SDLeary
  13. Sure there are. Arm pits; depending on the direction of the thrust it could end up in the arm or the chest. Neck; thrust could end up in the chest or in the head. They tend to not cover all of the abdomen, so still a chance of that hit. Keep in mind as well that not all "hoplites" were adorned in muscle cuirass. Many were in a "thorax" which seems to have completely different design. Look at the armor of Philip II of Macedon. SDLeary
  14. Something a bit easier for you. Force Shield, use the rules for Damage Resistance from the Sorcery rules in RQ3. Armor vs modern weapons, think shields in RQ3; has an AP value, when that AP value is exceeded, excess damage makes it through to the wearer. This is ablative, so when exceeded, the next hit will only absorb AP –1 (or whatever your chosen number is). HP, and Major Wounds, as per BGB. If you prefer Hit Locations, use the "location HP" as Major Wound values for said location. Handling locations this way also makes the ablative armor less of an issue for the character during moderate periods away from someone who can repair it. SDLeary
  15. The only other inscription that I recall is much later, 12th C. The supposed grave of Arthur and Guinevere. Though.... Could you be thinking about the inscription from Eastern Europe about Lucius Artorius Castus? SDLeary
  16. I believe that was part of it. Its also why I think some of the "extended family" altered the Damage Bonus in their systems as well. Don't discount ease though. Some seem to feel that adds to the dice make things too complicated. SDLeary
  17. Oldest written source is the Historia Brittonum, in which Arthur is portrayed thus: SDLeary
  18. Which is almost literally the translation of Pen Draig, or Pendragon; though it depends on whether "Dragon" was leader or warrior. SDLeary
  19. Thats what I remember. I would amend further depending on environment. If your playing Cthulhu Rising for example... thin atmosphere I would reduce by half each step, heavy atmosphere by one for every two bands. SDLeary
  20. And, the Plate being modeled in this case is not the more advanced plate from the later Middle Ages/Renaissance. In fact, the more advanced plate might be more vulnerable from angles other than the front... Tod hasn't run those tests yet. SDLeary
  21. @NickMiddleton Oh, I’m sure they worked really well in SCA and HEMA against edged (even rebated) and rattan weapons. I don’t think they would serve as well against a proper mace (stone or metal balls, or flanged) though. Id love to see one of the channels on YouTube take this one up. Un-fired clay torso with a full length gambeson over the top to see just how well it does. SDLeary
