  1. FEH! These are Humakti! They should carry throwing swords! SDLeary
  2. You can, but it would take a lot of work. The Lunars could probably do it with some heavy infantry that use sword and large shield, similar to how the Romans were able to take down the Greeks. But why go to all that trouble when you can use Magic... or The Crimson Bat. SDLeary
  3. An excellent photo of the relative distance issues between the two. One thing that the pic does't show though is that the shield on the hoplite is going to be much more effective, because he can parry with the shield, whereas the phalangite can't really do much with the shield, though it does provide protection from that side (passive protection), and helps cover his mate to the left. A somewhat moot comparison though, as any self respecting phalangite would have dropped his pike already and drawn his secondary weapon and would be gripping the handle of his shield to counter the threat. 4. You really need to model this at the weapon level (or weapon type/class). I've never been able to wrap my head around a universal rule for this. Once you get to full harness (or something similar), weapons don't penetrate (though a critical might find a gap). Concussive effects might be present, though really only an issue at the head level; most of the time this is going to be absorbed by the "padding" layer. The exception to this is really a weapon designed for this situation, the War Hammer, which is designed specifically to overcome this problem. It is a Can Opener. Mail is really different. While it is unlikely to be penetrated, save by a really good hit, its flexible nature transfers more energy through the material to the wearer. In older versions of the game, this was simulated by such armor only providing half protection against crushing weapons. SDLeary
  5. No no no no no... The only use for a shaman, one that has been properly mind controlled and enraged, is to lob them into your opponent! One of the many type of ordnance used by the famed Man Mortar brigade. SDLeary
  6. I see a Mostali use for Shaman's in this statement. SDLeary

    Elmal?

And this adds game tension and social nuggets for the GM to use to add to their scenarios. It could be very amusing/interesting to have both a Yelmalian and an Elmalian in the same party. SDLeary
  8. Thanks for the tip! I just watched New Boy, and am liking it enough to continue! SDLeary
  9. Yeah, you didn't really go into combat without a shield unless you had seriously heavy armor, and even then you'd have to think about it. SDLeary
  10. I believe this would be your task, as you seem to be the Master of Indices! 😉 SDLeary
  11. The biggest is that the second broadsword of the second warrior isn't going to be protection against missile weapons. There can be tactical reasons why someone might want to do this, but if you know or think missile weapons might be a thing, then going this route is an open invitation to becoming a pin-cushion. SDLeary
  12. And the core book please. The spine on mine is broken! The next trick is really Different Worlds... but Tadashi probably wouldn't want to give permission. SDLeary
  13. If you want the over the top fighting capabilities and magic built-in, then Magic World with Advanced Sorcery. Its essentially Elric with the Multi-verse filed off. Advanced sorcery adds a lot of visible and high powered magic back in. SDLeary
  14. So, we have an epic comedy (or tragedy depending on perspective) going on publicly on this side of the pond. After the rains began to hit you folks Down... there ( 😉 ), press has tapered off. Have the rains made much of a dent or allowed any progress? SDLeary

    Elmal?

I think that in my Glorantha, he still has fire. Even a camp fire or bon-fire can keep people warm, and keep predators away in the darkness. Hmmmm... how about... Barricade -- Like Shield, but applied to hastily erected defensive barriers, fortified gates, etc. True Arrow -- as a defender, much more likely to use bows from battlements or towers, shield walls, etc. SDLeary

    Elmal?

And more stupid to acknowledge that its a foreign enemy God-Emperor that helps to put food on their table. SDLeary

    Elmal?

Whats being said though Jeff, is that the Cult, as written (at least as far as we know right now), DOESN'T support that Mythic outline that you just provided, whereas other cults DO tend to support their gods Mythic outline, with appropriate spells and abilities. For example, there is no Steadfast feat listed as a gift, no Enduring (bonus to con rolls, or perhaps a re-roll?) feat. (Note: looking at the PDF of Cult Compendium; all that I've got with me right now) SDLeary

I think (and @Jeff can correct me if I'm wrong because he probably has a better take on this), in my rare talks with Greg since he left Chaosium, he seemed to go through a period where he was exploring the individual cultures deeper. As a result, his writings of the time were "revealing" more of this because richer cultures interested him more, he probably wanted to share that and it made it into the various depictions of Glorantha. I'm not sure what swung him back in the other direction. SDLeary
  19. Yes! As far as spells, I might allow certain ones, but each would have to be something along the lines of a Pact between the Shaman or the Spirit Worshipper, and the deity. SDLeary
  20. Which is a tome that is not yet available to the public, and a change compared to the main rule book, which states: So, a being with the man rune and the spirit rune sounds possible. The way I presented it, the Man Rune represents the part on this side of the vale, and the Spirit, the Fetch/Spirit Guide/Allied Spirit on the other side. Besides, if you folks (Chaosium) can present things witch seem to us to break the rules (see thread on Sorcery in Smoking Runes), then we certainly can until said rules come out, if we find it fits our narrative! SDLeary
  21. Yes, but it wound't be quite the same. Tales often state that the Touched can talk with the spirits that they can see. SDLeary
  22. Awww... I've been prequelled! Such is brainstorming I guess. OK... so the way this is coming out sounds more like what might be called an allied sprit, but that's not really what I'm after. I'm trying to figure out a Gloranthan equivalent to being "Touched" or "Born with the Sight". The thought of a child being born with an already awakened fetch seems that it could fit the bill. Perhaps on occasion, rather than three elemental runes, a child is born with two elemental runes and Sprirt. SDLeary
