Not all genders are essential - by which I mean, some of the time the gender of a deity is not of critical importance. So there are plenty of cults and subcults that are mostly male or female because the deity is identified as being male or female, but it's not vital to the story all the time so it isn't a show-stopper or a barrier to overcome. Sometimes, it is important to the deity or subcult. Orlanth is in an interesting position, it's a big melting pot cult of many roles. Some of what he does is gender-specific, some is not. I use "he" because most of the time Orlanth is male. Vinga's story is one of a woman breaking a social norm and becoming a warrior, a woman in "a man's cult", so it makes sense for women to follow that path, but it would be unusual for a man to follow it.

I've made a few more improvements, and added a couple of new sheets (one very plain "notes" and "gear" sheet, and one with two spaces for companions.

Aha, I didn't think to look for it as an associate cult. So the RQ2 writeup just says "1D8 POW", since MP was called Battle Magic POW. I think most of the time POW meant MP, and "characteristic POW" or "permanent POW" would be used for what we now just call POW.

P.77: "All-female" would imply that they cannot.

This is why playing youngsters or foreigners is popular - it's an excuse for knowing nothing about the world. Sure, kids have been told about the world, but kids are famous for not listening to the grown-ups and not believing cautionary tales. RQG went in a very different direction by planting the characters firmly in the narrative of the last 43 years of local history. I can see how that could go the wrong way for some players!

There is no duration. It's instant, and any MP above your POW are gone when they are spent. So technically you could be going around with tons of MP above your POW for as long as you like, not that high MP is that valuable any more as you use POW for resistance not MP. No, you keep the POW and the MP. The writeup in RBOM removes the line "The POW disappears at the end of the spell’s duration", I suspect that's a copy-paste from an old edition, possibly when "POW" meant "Battle Magic POW" i.e. MPs. Hm, can't find an RQ2 writeup, I don't think Ernalda was ever published, and it's not there in the Gods of Glorantha writeup so I'm wrong. Maybe the spell had duration at some point in the development of RQG.

@simonh ran a game for his daughters when they were very young, he played pretty much by the rules but maybe a little simplified. I joined in for a session at Tentacles Con a few years ago when they were around 10 or 11, they were fighting some tusk riders in a village in Shadows Dance and having a great time riding around and leaping across rooftops and shooting. I think I ran some trolls that they were travelling with. Then a few years later one of them played in a game with friends her own age, and she came home and said "Now I get it, I know now why you love playing these games". They need to play with their peers, not just their parents. Even if their dad is as awesome as Simon. I don't know if they encountered ducks but I'm sure they'd have thought they were awesome.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm going to look out for an opportunity for Leika to bark out "Oh go explore an ancient ruin or something!" if the duck makes any more disruptive suggestions.

Files: I love the folio character sheet from the starter set, especially printed on heavy card stock, but it isn't perfect. There's a lot of wasted space, and not enough variant skills like languages, insight, spells. I don't have many tools for creating something like this, so for now I've gone about it the hard way - pasting it all up with a paint program. Here's a scaled down version. The PNG is 8.5 MB, and a moderately compressed JPEG is 6 MB. Any suggestions for tools to use to do this kind of work?

The party don’t want to get involved in politics, and I won’t force them to. This incident was very much an aberration, one that the player regrets. So what happens next politically is really up to me. I know what the players and characters want, I know what fits in with what I want to do, so I need to make it happen. I would rather let it happen in play but that’s not what the players want from a game. I suck at political narrative as well.

A single random critical success in the Chaosium house campaign literally brought back an extinct species from the God Time into the universe. There are plenty of game worlds where that sort of thing doesn't happen. I like Glorantha the way it was played by the creators.

Starter Set, Blank Folio Craft has a tick box, but the two lines underneath for filling in two different Craft skills do not. Remove tick box, and place two on the lines underneath it. Same with Speak Other Language, a single check box doesn't work for two separate skills. Also, Cult Lore should not have a tick box. Customs (Local) should.

I'm not keen on belittling the adventurers as nobodies - that might be how you roll at your table, but it's not how RQG is supposed to roll. But yes she wouldn't have had a second chance to speak if it weren't for that critical success on Orate (sorry to bring RQ mechanics into a Glorantha thread, but the main point of this is what-happens-next-in-my-Glorantha, not the game system). And now, she has played a pivotal role in the politics and people know who she is and that her voice is listened to. I think that terrifies her more than any monster I've thrown at them!

My game is currently in between the Battle of the Queens and the Burning of Kallyr. I don't want to hijack the other thread with chatter about my game. I have been gently angling towards running The Black Spear at some point in the not too distant future. On the face of it, this requires Leika to be on board with Argrath coming and making his claim, likely shutting her out from the top job. BUT. Immediately after the battle, one of my PCs let out on a powerful rant about "we need to choose a leader now, otherwise we will be weak and the Lunars will invade again and it will be terrible". I gently hinted that that would be difficult whilst one of the main contenders (to whom she has some loyalty) is in Pavis and the other is still dead, leaving only one obvious candidate. She doubled down saying that the security and strong leadership of Sartar is paramount and more important than personal loyalty. She was clearly having a "We have to do something, THIS is something, therefore we have to do THIS" moment. The rest of the party sat by a little dumbstruck. Vishi is a Praxian so didn't feel it was his place to get involved in Sartarite politics, and Harmast is a Colymar with no loyalty to Argrath and so didn't feel the need to intercede either. So I said, "sure, roll Orate". 02. Critical success on a "we need to choose a leader now" rant, when there is only one candidate for leader. Ok, so Leika reluctantly calls a moot then and there to choose a leader. I roll on her Orate setting forth her claim and get a special success. So Leika is now acclaimed the logical choice for leader of Sartar. She sets off for Boldhome with Kallyr's body. The outspoken Humakti duck now realizes what she's done and starts to back away from supporting Leika. She and Vishi persuade Harmast that he shouldn't throw his hat in with Leika either as that would split party loyalties, the player isn't too bothered either way as he has no personal loyalty to Leika either. Sure, he's loyal to her as tribal queen, but that doesn't mean he has to support a non-Sartar-descendent as prince. Somehow I need to get this back on track. I don't think it will be too difficult, I initially considered having another faction come to the party to set them off on The Black Spear quest, but the spear is clearly Leika's and that would not work. Maybe Leika will come to realize over the next few seasons that she can't hold the position of prince. Maybe she will realize that she can't win without Argrath and so wants to get his arse over here and fight and have it out who is prince later. Maybe she's setting a trap for Argrath. Or I could just run Black Spear without the Black Spear. Some other Sartarite regalia item. Any other ideas? My players don't read the forum.

Not sure what analogy you are specifically referring to, so maybe I'm not being as smart today as my reputation might imply. In my defence it is late at night and I'm tired. And all of these traditions have stories about people and wild animals having much closer and more cordial relationships than the modern way of thinking considers likely. I think the rarity is an order of magnitude different. I don't know how many pet pumas there are, maybe a few hundred in the US? That would put it at about one in a million. There are only 200,000 humans in Sartar, so one sakkar companion would mean five times the incidence rate. It would not surprise me if there are a dozen hunters with big cat companions in Sartar, so that means sixty times as common, and I think I'm low-balling it by a wide margin.

Thanks for the shoutout @Joerg but I didn't have Detach Head. The closest I had was Become Pair of Smoking Boots, but I'd already used that in the comedy chase scene leading up to the beheading when someone cast Disrupt on me.

Glorantha is a fantasy world, though. There is nothing like my neighbourhood in Glorantha.
