  1. is it a hard walk / climb etc.. or somewhere easy to visit ?
  2. this raises a lot of things : why humakti are feared even if they are honorable ? would a chalana arroy priestess be seen as honorable if she accepts duel and kill honorably her opponent ? would a chalana arroy priestess be seen as dishonable if she refuses any duel ? of course chalana arroy... put ernalda, put any one I think a better notion (doesn't exist in rqg) would be to define a "reputation score" for any community with the same values. You may have a positive reputation in black fang community and a negative one in Pavis you, humakti, may have a good reputation among chalana arroy cultist because, even if you kill people (that's your role after all) because you are very respectful of any healer. etc... the big issue with honor in rqg for me is the word "honor", not what is behind. I don't know if there is any word in english but I would more call it "way of the warrior" * than "honor" (in the XXI century sense) then the best way, for me, if you don't want to add to many numbers is to note your deeds and facing someone recognazing you (rqg reputation) define her reactions. * yes bushido, but no, not bushido, we are talking about glorantha, not the 5 rings
  3. same for me, that should be for life. However, with the lunar religion, and the need of so many soldiers , I would say you can "escape" your fate by joining some mystic way or the army but that should be exception. Because... if they can move, where is their next place ? directly middle class townsmen ? seems the gap too important
  4. Not in sartar go south very south following the mountains i spent a lot of time to find it
  5. Your perspective seems to me very -centric 🙂 when my gloranthan perspective is less : there are other entities. Human, troll etc are not alone. There are spirits. There are beasts, there even are plants spirits can see spirits without effort so any friendly spirit may alert (or not depends on the spirit personality ) exactly the same process than shaman may meet friendly neutral or hostile spirits. How a wolf spirit could be friendly with a telmori shaman and hostile with a brother dog shaman if not ?
  6. Yes there are three levels for me from a gameplay perspective: what skills are used between adventure (aka roll do) and the income (that is the occupation part) What is your standard of living = outcome what is your relationship whit your god or any non mundane world entity With this three dimensions, the role of gm+player is to determine what is the social background / roleplay able to explain everything for example you may want to live as a noble (great house , fine food, servants…) but your passion is hunting and you hunt every day , and you don’t want to decide for other (no social role) so how to explain the difference between occupation income (hunter ) and noble outcome ? Do you expect your adventures to give you enough plunder to fit the gap ? Do you hope dad to pay for you ? Or maybe some favor from the clan, a local power , etc after some great deeds* *for me it must be done during the play. the rules gives me a framework and the easiest way : you want to play a noble ? Take occupation noble , outcome noble, etc but there is no reason to explore more complex combination. ‘my only concern is about logic and background: with a yelmalio priest (social position) I accept some occupations but not all : scribe (you are in charge of the temple library) priest (of course) warrior (war god so having martial activity is normal) noble (officer or politician ) for example. Of course if a player come with some good argument with fisher, why not. But some are obvious some aren’t same if your adventurer wants to have noble occupation after 10 years as fisher adventurer how to explain it ? Is he a mercenary officer ? Is he a lander owner ? A ring member ? A guild leader ? Etc…
  7. you can disagree of course, our glorantha may vary 🙂 but see my points 1) does a air spirit accept to be bound, so to lose its freedom for personal purpose. If it is an "alliance" no problem, there is some gain for it pain, but if not, if it is a domination ? Do Orlanthi, who worships air spirits, accept those they worship to be enslaved ? 1b) yes I agree about ranking, and my point was for typical adventurer. However that's about the same: a priest will have cult spirits with him for good reason. That's the difference between a good priest and Lokamayadon (well propaganda perhaps 😛 ) 2) Yes it is acting in time, and awarness. And there is awareness for some reasons - great compromise doesn't prevent the gods from being contacting by mundane "sources" (worshipper, shaman, spirits...) . the spirit, once bounded in the mundane world, is in time, is a mundane "source". That may spend time, that may require to cross the sources, but it will - great compromise doesn't prevent the gods to answer (answer, not initiate) in the mundane world. The only issue is they can't "create" / "imagine" new types of reaction. They must follow patterns they followed before GP. Pretty sure there were a lot of occasions to save their followers before what mortals call Time. 2b) From my perspective, in addition, there are a lot spirits present - sp aware - in the mundane world: if people needs shaman to deal with spirits, to appease them, to bargain with them, that means spirits are among them and can do things by themselves. I agree, after Argrath, in my glorantha, that will not be possible to have any "revenge", but after Argrath, in my glorantha, you will not be able to bind spirits because mundane world will be for mundane creature
  8. for me, you have the honour passion or not without honor passion, you cannot lose anything if player wants her character to get during the play honor passion, then remember what she did before... was she honorable or about "normal" ? yes, start at 60. Was she a dishonorable one ? haha start at 0 except if there is something, somewhere able to explain a radical change (roleplay speaking). note that I would consider for other passions than it cannot be under 60 -something binary, you are passionate > 60, you are not, = void), but in this particular case, when acts & decision explain honor, it is different
  9. Yes maybe a mistake in my post (not in my mind) Velhara is a name, but the goddess behind could be named differently in other regions
  10. yes balance may be (or is always) an issue. my advice : consider your own rule as not independant but part of your global system define a "measure" for example MP : do you allow a lot of matrix, crystal, etc... what is the average Magic Point pool a pc can use ? consider now that your spirit is MP ( POW + specific ability you have to "translate" into mp, think about spell effect to the translation) and that's it if you allow people to have 250 mp storage, you will allow a lot of spirits (from a balance perspective) If, like me, a pc is "rich" with 10mp storage, allow only your little dog spirit (of course, when pc succeed somethjing important, the reward may be a bigger spirit) here is only if you look for a balance system. If the spirit is "here" (matrix, cristal or anything, or even if you meet it) you don't have to summon it. If the spirit is not here and you want it, you have to summon it (or maybe I don't understand your question ?) 1) using ancestor table (red book p88) I would say very rare spirits are full of their cha 2) using all npc tables (scenario, background, etc), I would say few people have spirits command cult spirit is common rune magic so it is... common to have the ability 🙂 from my perspective, using this spell for religious ceremony or temple management is common (worship, etc...), but use spirit for your own purpose is uncommon . now having spells to command other spirits outside your cult seems to me rare
  11. seems to me you will not find rules for that, like for "how much can I sell xxxx", or even "if I have 2k silver coins, is it easy to buy a matrix ?, we have the price we don't have the frequency" I don't know if it is good or not to not have such rules. It could drive so much frustration if the designer choice is clearly not your game style. If you play with me (well first, speak french 😛 ) you will know that - to sell something, you must 1) find a buyer (merchant or not) , 2) accept a big price reduction than the official price (lowerest price when your buyer is an intermediate like a merchant, every one wants money) - to buy something you must 1) find a seller (merchant or not) accepting the trade (availability, but for enchantment, few people, IMG, will accept to sell a part of their soul for money) - you will have some issue to obtain from a cult any spirit (what did you for our great god, arrogant slug ?) - you will be really challenged by your priests (or others priests even in not your hierarchy) and your gods if you obtain by yourself a cult spirit (summon, bind etc..) : "What a big blaspheme to think you can do your shopping for your own purpose, heretic !" - if you obtain spirits who don't want it, you will be chased by their great masters (gods or spirits) and their minions In my glorantha, spirits are not resources you can appropriate. Most of them depends on some "party" (cult, elements, ...) and are protected by them. I see them like any npc
  12. there are several things, at least for me, and there is something important you wrote : "I guess this is up to the game master" How I manage it : 1) occupation ~p70 (skill, etc...) is what are your main tasks, not what is your "social" role (social in both mundane and god/spirit role). You have "priest occupation", you mainly work in a temple for religious purpose. 2) social means some requirements (you are noble because your culture consider you are, by blood for some, by leadership position for other, etc..) these requirements may be given by the rules and by the roleplay to be a "priest" (p278) you must follow the stats requirements AND be selected as a priest to be a god talker you must follow the stats requirements and (at least for me) that's all, the relationship is more between the character and the god then in your case - your character is born in a religious family, with some priests so it was very easy (or mandatory), to follow the rites, learn the songs, etc.. maybe when adult, your parent ask you to assist them, may be not, (no problem to follow the occupation in both case, but important for the background, from my perspective ) - if all requirements are fullfilled (woman included for maran gor priestess), you may be god talker or priest (with me, no you are not a priest, "prove your value first". except if the campaign is very specific of course ) the income as nothing to do with p278 and other (still, my opinion), the relationship is with your occupation. For example you are a godtalker working as mercenary, fighting as anyone in your company but leading some worhip ceremony. You may choose between two occupations (warrior because you fight, priest because you worship). the income should be the occupational one. Note that all this things could be mitigate etc depending on the situation (your company is only 3 people, of course you are just a warrior as other, you can't earn enough money, have enough worshippers to consider your main tasks as priest tasks) that is the same for a noble: a merchant with a place in the ring of your clan / tribe may have a "noble" occupation because focusing more on politics or a "merchant" occupation because focusing more on trade. to have the choice of occupation you should fullfill the requirement (you must work in a shop or a caravan to be a merchant, you must have enough income sources : tenant, etc... and have a social position satisfying the "noble" occupation)
  13. thanks a lot @Eff for your effort to explain so many things.
  14. yep but since I faced @Jeff nysalorian riddle, (aka my roll is fumble 00) I m not sure of anything my death for dummies was not a joke 🙂 a [soul] map explaining the differentes parts (and what part is what), then the view (what Brithini consider "you", etc..) of each culture that's clearly not a criticism, I m very fine with this model (Brithini believe differently than Orlanthi, and both people are "right") just would like to understand the notions behind. It may be very clear for specialists, but for me... that's a mix of Subere and Dayzatar
  15. oh your answer is very interesting and so aligned with what I want but not expected with this question @JRE = what the storm priests may say @jajagappa = what the monomyth philosopher (?) may say that is exactly the subject of my story ! "No you didn't meet Velhara so far, she is OUR goddess" "And yet, she moves" Galileo when you hold us A great surprise ! thanks a lot
  16. yep but sometimes, a player (I include myself) may have a plan in mind, wants to explore something, and a death at the wrong moment, once a lot of things were already done and some attachment is clear, then the death (if it must be a final one) must be at least glorious (or absolutly infamous) . That must be memorable and fair. Or open some door (like let's make a come back heroquest) of course, it's fun to see your new one dead after 1hour of play, you just can replay the same character with another name and few background change (if you wish)
  17. aka the french version of a sword of humakt, a crossbow of hum.. act, that was not luck, just skill and super transe magic wrong example but right vision, I fully agree seems I m so desperate irl that I have to find my forum way in eurmali teaching. Sorry for that
  18. but... what happens when they die ? Did they really dissappear as they believe, or did they see their mistake: their soul still exists for ever ? or maybe their soul exists but as they negate it, the soul is "washed" from any brithini knowledge (aka no int) and become magical spirit (to be bound in pc enchanted gear) ? by the way, I found in HQ sartar companion, something about shaman after life (spirit versus soul, big issue I don't see the difference) like @JRE just noticed about western. Is it still the case with rqg ? do we have some explanation about what is really (not gloranthan belief but gloranthan reality) after death in the cult books (or elsewhere) ? "Death for dummies" you see, something allowing people like me with too few knowledge in spirituality, religion, etc ... to understand what I will find when I will open the gate
  19. I have a problem with your insistense ( 😛 joke, no problem at all sir , continue please to support me) : that implies I have to break and rebuild all my story and temporal line . Will see. But to secure my plan and to avoid any discussion (even if some wise knowledge master said I can) , I may follow your setting (aka in dragon pass, the lowest common denominator) Thanks a lot all, don't hesitate to debate ( ) enrich my knowledge here about the goddess too.(and of course the other points I will ask in few days /weeks).
  20. mmm don't know: she exists, it's a fact (in glorantha I mean). So maybe she avoid them, but for me where she is, other may know (at least stories) she is here Now that doesn't mean they need her, they don't worship her, maybe they see her as any other nymph or spirit, etc..
  21. Don’t know if it is still canon but this lands were named in hq (level Orlanth / level Heort / level pc ) in fact larger the « little » issue I have is to understand the range of any god/dess clear for the sun, the see, the cloud Clear (well I hope) for a local river or earth territory but what about the minor divinities (no offense my lady_, I love your so cute hoofs ) who are not clearly universally known ?
  22. Hum after few minutes to understand your words (or sounds ?) , I can confirm that you are maybe the only one but that’s the fate of any eurmali, even among his peers, isn’t it ? 🤪
  23. However those who hope to become khan must be noble (if there is no change from previous version) so prove yourself as a leader (be noble blood and have noble occupation), be chosen as the chief heir by the leaders and then pass the tests to be khan. No need to study as it must have been your current occupation for a while
  24. I know she can be "seen" in the Forest of the Winds but if mundane people meet her, where can it be ? I think any where in Dragon pass forest, but what about Balazar or even further ?
