I have the same issue 🙂 I m not confortable because there is not clear "cost" and "benefit" (aka how much mp / pow to obtain what) It is easier (for me) about background and "mundane material" (cows, ceremony, sing, etc...) , and @jajagappa answered well (as usual !) and better than any thing I could propose Of course ! that's the best way for me, until we have the next rules. and that eases the reward too (the impact is for community not for pcs, of course pc could gain something, like what shaman can obtain) yes, and when you will know the rules, if there is any inconsistency with what you (gm) said, you would be able that was the npc who said wrong thing ! the hard point : you need to know the investment, and you need to know the benefit. I would say in this case : - don't try to know "where" the pc go (mundane / hero / god / level x plan). In fact I even not sure gloranthan are able to determine it exactly - prefer to see what they sacrifice (during the start AND during the quest), and adjust the benefits: --> Few pow / 20 mp ? a spirit spell is found, a blessing for one or two seasons ? one little bonus for the pc (like a yelmalio gift, or possibility to sacrifce 1-2 pow for hero points / or even if very little ambitious start, a rune spell. Maybe a weak allied/friend spirit ?) --> 20 cows ? two slaves ? hundreds mp ? 20 pow ? a new divine spell to the wyter ? a blessing for few years ? bigger bonus for the pc (same level that previously but a reward per station and maybe a rune at 100% ? ) --> more ? whooo able to "disturb" the red emperor, argrath, harreck ? very big price for the pc (permanent new ability : fly , eternity, split fire....) but I m really not sure of my hypothesis. In all cases, my opinion is that is not your role to say your players "if you want to go there and obtain that, you must pay this" I m more inclined to say "you read/remember / .. that this quest was done after all the tribe gather together and sacrificed dozens of cows and pig, at least six priests lead the worship ceremony for a week before the heros leave our world to save our community. When they returned successfully we found our fields full of good grain and we were able to eat. They save our life". Let them define what it means, what they expect, and propose opposition and gain after.

I see I'm not alone ( @David Scott answer) 😉 however it could be fine to have in some "new version bestiary", or any other publication (wiki ? jc ? *) something presenting what are the different "status" * a specy has we already have the rune for some races but we could generalize it with monsters and anything (even gear, after all) - the runes would help (detection, sorcery spell, ...) - the living / dead / undead / spirit / ... - a kind of "family" notion could be helpfull too : draconic, human, troll, sword, tool, ... (roll against knowledge, detect spell, ...). Of course the family notion should be aligned with the spell granularity - other I don't have in mind today * note that something very important to me is the "canon" of this document. the point is to let no interpretation, people may have any house rule they want (I include myself) but my idea is to help understand official rules, to have the common fundation. So i'm not sure about Jonstown, would prefer ... Nochet.
  3. for me that's for some "suicide" mission. Infiltrate, kill the target, then do what you can to survive, but the success is the target's death, not your survival. At least, you may be worshipped and honored after your life, that a huge bounty !

  6. probably something to add in the rules book(s). Not a new rule, "just" a definition of "living", "undead", "spirit", etc.. could be very nice. Even if, probably, a lot of people will read it, continue reading and forget it !
  7. if you apply a "true" (well I m not specialist at all, I cannot say if using a spear is irl easier than using a kopis, I trust you, that's all) simulation you must too : - go deeper with armor (malus to attack/parry depending on the weapon, different restistand depending on the weapon), - go deeper with hit area : one damage may kill someone (throat, heart, etc...),difficulty to focus an area depending on the weapon - go deeper with fatigue (skill malus, damage malus, mood malus) - go deeper with situation (skill malus depending on the weapon, horse, tunnel, water, field size, etc...) - go deeper with mood (wound after wound, friend after friend, ennemy after ennemy, orate skill, etc...) - go deeper with concentration (distraction, scream, ....) - go deeper with special techniques giving more opportuinities/damage/etc (I have not the english word, in french "botte" when you talk about fencing) - don't know what else well go deeper with so many things that at the end of the day we will play only magical fights because physical fight is too complex to modelize or to apply 😛 For me (I understand that other would have different view) the lack of simulation is more about psychology, in fight but not only, and "technique"/"school" of fighting. But every time I go in this direction with house rule, I obtain more issues than benefits

  9. i agree donandar cultist are not very good to fight... as standard fighters. However, they may use their magic in some weird way to help fight ? I'm here... I'm not here... where i am ? houhou.. distraction could help your party to ambush them See behind you the 20 trolls who are charging you... etc.. could help when the situation is not good, etc... In all cases. No one force a player to be a donandar cultist. Of course when the table is fight oriented, that will be a little bit boring to the one who has nothing to deal with wounds (to give or to heal) except if the player uses the capacity in smart way Note that spirit magic can help a lot, learn or obtain a mlatrix with heal 6 and you are a healer choose the cult for what you want to play, once you have defined with the players and the gm what will be the "flavor" of the campaign.
  10. My personal view : If there are official stats for glorantha beast, I follow official stats for glorantha beast, even if I know that something is absolutly impossible in my real world. If there is nothing, I apply what I know / find with google In my real world baboon cannot speak, I cannot mine bronze, there are no cloud sheeps 😛 but I allow baboon to speak in glorantha, people to mine bronze and sheeps to be seen on cloud now as customer, when I buy something I want it to be aligned with the rules. Of course it is only my point, don't know what is the part of customers who play in glorantha with real world words but different characteristics without any issue and customers who want to have more similarities between real world and glorantha (but what could be the right limit ? duck cannot speak physically or use sword...)

I would not use the parry (shield) spell to add parry to a sword but why not having another spell improving a sword parry, a very exotic one, some unknown hero cult or few shamans would know / teach it . However, a parry is a parry, an attack is an attack. For the same reason than a magical damage (bladesharp) is not a fire damage (fireblade) I would not consider them compatible but you may find another spell then, improving both attack and parry (+5/spell) = [weapon skill] but without any damage bonus.
  12. my opinion : there is the spell name, the spell effect, and the worshipper/god intent spell name : bind ghost spell effect : a dying person spirit will stay into the area of its death ==> humakt(i) intent : a volontary humakti, understanding his body will die accept to stay here to continue the fight / protect the cult / ... etc. she's not a ghost, she's a cult spirit in mission until ... something happens ==> bad cult intent : the evil caster trap the spirit in the mundane world but the spirit want te go in the underworld. this supplice transform the spirit, now angry, it is now a ghost
  13. too much for me : now you have a spell giving damage like bladesharp AND more protection back to the parry(10) versus bladesharp(10). How many shield-bearer wil obtain a matrix or learn parry 10 if it add dmg ? why even use another melee weapon if you can do D6 + 10 +bonus dmg ? focus on shield stat and, why not, with both hands for me, if you want more damage on your shield, use a bladesharp-like (+1dmg +5% att) spell not a parry one, or go to heroquest and find captain america !

  15. that is more a question of management. and your definition of "independent" From my perspective they were autonomous to manage their domestic policy, having to obey few common laws but were unable (or less able) to decide foreign policy except for trade maybe I see them as far more autonomous than european union countries for domestic policy but less autonomous than eu countries for foreign policy
  16. it works for sure but it may depend on your ennemies (and sometimes... gm 😛 ) if you are facing a smart/professional formation, there will be probably some unities dedicated to counter attack it : you may have a formation with a phalanx facing the ennemy line and behind them some supports (priests, shaman, skirmishers, even healers..) with two missions : heal /buff the phalanx and demoralize / disrupt / destroy any orlanthi fool enough to use the well known 3 rune points spell [become a sandwich], unique use for orlanth initiates, and sometimes even for wind lords 🙂 I did imagine some attack with earth/air/darkness elementals (water maybe too but you need at least a river), easy to break a formation. But that is the same, after 2-3 experiences like that, any tactitian would imagine something to block it. Don't know what by the way, other elementals ? or priests with command spell ?
  17. - pc meet some children and poor people suffering a lot. they are lunars (not bad guys, just . .lunars) they want to leave this so hostile country but have no money, no food, nothing to travel - pc (or pc's friend npc) want to obtain an house, how to deal with praxians who don't understand the land property concept - or don't care (not the good words, just the opposition between nomads and cities) - praxians from different tribes in a city have certainly some "proximity" issues with the other tribes. - big rubble, how to deal with the new rules ? is there any rule ? - rumors about some lunar assassins presence sent to kill Argrath / or other leaders. could be true, could be assassins sent by one local leader to kill a "friend", or just paranoia. Would pc be hired as body guards, as investigators or be seen as suspects ? - this slave is not a lunar, she is my sister ! ... no no no you cannot conclude that ! don't touch me ! I M NOT LUNAR !!! - new opportunities to travel with a caravan, to trade or to send furniture and gears to fighters far in the west / south... Lunars are not here any more to secure some road - new opportunities to attack a caravan... Lunars are not here any more to secure some road !
  18. well if a "dps" is able to have a "bladesharp 10", I m pretty sure a "tank" is able to have a "parry 10". But I agree with you xxx-10 is a kind of big deal ! but I saw so many times bladesharp 10 that I have changed my referential 😛 you're just demonstrating that feeling may give wrong analysis sometimes ! so you convince me for the 1/1 ratio (I m pretty sure that you would not do anything without my agreement, would you ? 😛 )
  19. but in that case... what can you obtain with dominate human ? you move the body but cannot obtain : - any answer (a body can make sound, not answer) - order anything to do (you don't give the target "any autonomy" to do things) or I miss something ? same if you dominate a human possessed by another human spirit ? who are you dominating ?
  20. if there is yet some malus to see, yes, why not. If the situation gives, by itself no malus, no. To explain my point : image a irl soldiers with forest camouflage. Of course it is hard to see them in forest. Now... if you meet them in the street.. Will you see them less than other people ? that how I understand shimmer : it is less distinctive but you see the "mass". the point is, if you have not enough light, or anything, then the "less distinctive" becomes "less visible". But if everything is clear, of course you don't see exactly the person (in my irl example the face expression), but you see the person (irl : there is a soldier here)
  21. seems to me "too much" (I may be wrong, just my first feeling) maybe +0.5 / spell or thing like that. human should have a knock back even with parry 10 against minotaur again just a feeling no +10 for me but... i agree with you : something to do with the dammage. I will follow the canon rules, but I would not see any issue if the parry spell gives +1 AP when (and only when) the parry is successful. if you succeed your parry (with your spell bonus), then yes the shield blocks more but if you failed your parry (failure, or crit vs normal,etc...), then if you have to use shield stats for any reason, don't add the parry spell bonus.
  22. yes for sure the player decides (i played the game a lot of times, and it seems I am a little bit too influenced by the game background to see rqg glorantha) But and that is important, the player decides among x options, and then decide more or less than the "standard" price. The issue (more a risk if you want to transpose it in a campaign), is there is one standard (for example 3 magic points, or X cows - i don't remember -) for all the favors. That is not an issue for the game, it is balanced for itself. But this system, smart for this game, seems to me too "light" for a table, open world, with people able to do and imagine more than follow a script.
  23. then, in this case, no issue to have only harmony and life for healing trance 😛 that's my point. you can have a ZZ with a weird (runes speaking) XU spell because this ZZ is weird or you don't need to learn this XU spell because there are other ways (as you described) to obtain its effect.
  24. you may find some zz whith harmony (life should be weird, I agree) some poor trolls who had/wanted to join a desperate cult for any reason, but who were not, and stille are not, exactly a zz. Those guys are important, kind of medic in a little destroying task force. More heal, more destruction.
