  1. Don t use it for a real table: when you design a computer game like it you must remember there is no gamemaster to define (or bargain with player) the favor not the same to kill a dragon , accept to marry with a loved but invalid son, or save from the river two children Use text favor and imagine what could be a good ยซ return ยป of course just my opinion and maybe in 30years computer games will be able to replace gm who knows!
  2. she is not a troll, right ? I did believe she was a troll but I heard recently she was something different, oldest, darkest (from subere territory). But as usual, I may be wrong
  3. Same for me i would allow a dominate human spell to obtain answers. Answers donโ€™t come from flesh from my perspective : spell > spirit > body so if a (non dog) spirit controls a dog body, a sorceror must cast a dominate (non dog) spirit to control the dog The dominate dog would affect the original dog spirit who is not controlling any more the dog body. Obtaining answer from the dog spirit , yes. Obtaining acts, no. But encouraging the dog spirit to fight again against the possession, yes
  4. Thanks a lot I didnโ€™t know if there was, in your glorantha (or canon) a kind of divine trial to demonstrate to the gods themselves or if it was a demonstration to mundane cults
  5. an interesting point. What was his arguments ? And to whom he put forward his argument ? (gods ? priests ?)
  6. from a rule perspective ? so few reasons, as you said, cult, if you are very low in one stat but there are little bit more with heavy armor (encumbrance gives penalty from a roleplaying perspective ? a lot : you want to move faster (armor , weapon), it is too hot to keep a heavy armor, it is less confortable. The only mixed reason (GP + RP) is you are in a city where you must not wear martial gear (but your sword is not so martial, that's part of your status) now what you can do is, as a GM to tell your player that it is abslolutly not confortable to travel in the desert (penalty for the next five days if you don't rest) . That use your sword (or lance or) gives a penalty in this tunnel because is really not enough large etc that's a balance to find between ( not enough rules but easy to play ) and ( good simulation rules but hard/boring to play )
  7. from my perspective there is no issue here (note that I have changed my mind year after year to have this conclusion ๐Ÿ˜› probably some chaosium illumination riddle) what is a god's child? a part of a god and a part of something else "something else" could be a goddess / nymph / mortal / ... etc as our "standard" human children or "something else" could be a situation, an experience Yelmalio is the part of Yelm still alive when Yelm is dead Darkness is when Yelm is dead Yelmalio is the part of Yelm and / in Darkness situation Yelmalio is Yelm's son of course not like our irl definition for gods, that is only a semantic issue, nothing more so yes Yelmalio is Yelm's son, when there is Yelm and yes Yelmalio is a part of Yelm, when there is no Yelm
  8. for me Ernalda is the wife and the mother every where she is worshipped but that doesn't mean women have the same political role / impact everywhere she is worshipped From my perspective, In Sartar, Ernalda is the "equals" of Orlanth, the local political power is shared between wind priests and earth priestess. Of course at the end of the day, women have the true power, but an hidden one. In Esrolia, Ernalda is superior, her husbands are just "tools", earth priestess have the true power, and everyone knows that. In Sun county, Ernalda is inferior, Yelmalio is The Husband, the protector, the leader, the alpha and omega, and let her wonderful wife manages his house with honour, loyalty and... silence woman! keep inside and obey. Earth priestess have no power, even hidden. Now there is another mother and wife, dedicated to the praxians, Eiritha. I think that the role of Ernalda, is the same role than any woman's mother, once the woman is married. As the mother, she is important. she is invited to Eiritha house and do her best to help her daughter (anywhere in prax), she doesn't lead, she advices: Of course, continuiting the IRL analogy, she may live in a flat in her daughter house (part of the paps, few sacred places elsewhere in prax). Then yes, she decides in her flat but not in the rest of the house.
  9. (just my opinion) because there was a time when there was no air between sky and earth. Before Umath: ground floor and upper floors = sky . And if you want to go up, you have stairs basement = earth. Where you can store and hide anything After Umath / Orlanth basement and ground floor = earth (Ernalda succeeds to obtain more than what was earth power before) something new, with new rules = air, able to maintain sky far from his wife dominion the upper floors = sky (Yelm is still emperor after all) birds were already able to not use stairs to go up so they can fly. Other gods are so "pure" they cannot learn a new power (and after all that would be ridiculous to try to ressemble these opportunists gods) so they have to use "stairs" to go on earth (or fall) and back to the sky (or use the eagles, like Frodo) In sun county we have an example of "stair" (Bunan puce to not spoil anything), but that could be materialized with other aspects (magical floating boat, bridge, river, ... ) why not, but few. I like @soltakss answer about it. Another option is, if they are now sartarite, after so many generations, that means they are (and more and more) "tainted" by air. They are not pure, so even if they descend from Yelm, that is a tenuous heirloom (and why not a "suprise" for a pc with high level in fire rune)
  10. my opinion : there are three types of "elemental shamans" 1) those who follow an established cult (golden bow, kyger litor, aldrya...) and specialize their spells/knowledge/powers in their god element more than their god deeds/values 2) those who follow an established spirit society (oakfed, kolat, ...). They are by nature specialized in their great spirit element. Of course they have too to follow their great spirit values 3) those who don't follow any established community I don't see any difference (game play speaking) between the 3 options: they are shaman, and they have to bargain with great entities (call them gods, demi gods, great spirit, etc...) to obtain their powers. The true difference is that when you are in an established cult or spirit society, you have a specific bound with the one you worship: you gain access to some rune spells / prayers, you have to obey (more or less) your hierarchy/tradition you are recognized as an ally or ennemy by spirits allied or hostile to your tradition The 3 option is interesting : you can contact who you want *, including gods who don't accept shaman in their cult (so you are not a shaman of Orlanth cult, but you may be a shaman of Orlanth even if no priest will recognize you as is, Argrath where are you ?) you have not to follow any mundane hierarchy/tradition. You are free to do what you want but you cannot ask for any support from the mundane hierarchy/tradition and its associated/friends cults. You are a self made shaman you are not recognized as an ally or ennemy by spirits allied or hostile to the traditions of your element but you are not protected and can be attacked by any harsh spirit (in your element included) * well except if you have accepted from one of your previous "spiritual" ally to not contact some other entities. I m not sure if you obtain some pact with Oakfed he will welcome the news that you are now Valind's or Magasta's friend for example
  11. yes that something I feel too but if it is not biological (aka true biological + magic adoption biological adoption....), that's not an issue
  12. same in the french oriflam version. Their tactic is to attack together one opponent (when they can) , but their is no mention of any specific changes. I always played it as each baboon rolls a d100, then pc try to resist, then 1d3, etc..
  13. that opens a new perspective for me.. Something more global than I understood from @JRE to be sure I understand your answer, do you mean that Hsunchen are just human as other, no difference except their religion/belief/philosophy/way of life ? I did not see it anywhere before, but I probably missed it ?
  14. the topic is about rqg and rqg have some changes and a lot about rune spells. I have absolutly no idea if these rules are still RAW (well there are not today for sure, but they may be raw in gamemaster guide, or others products) I agree that could be nice to have some "spells" consolidation (I would prefer a ritual so hours of organization, than just a spell by the way)
  15. yep but that's interesting. I was asking about trolls, but in fact it is more non-human, so that's good too. the point about wasp riders is : are they able to transform themselves because they are "people" by nature or because they worshisp a goddess giving some transformation abilities (so they are not hunshen, like a odayla worshipper or yinkin worshipper: they can transform even if they are not hunshen) Note that I m not talking about a game design / rules (aka spell: same spell's familly for hunshen and not hunshen) but a background one for me (am I wrong ?) they are like Odayla and Yinkin cults: your goddess gives you the possibility to transform your body. That's not because you are part of a people but because you join a cult. Oh I know nothing about this. I will make some research about this.
  16. a weird question when I opened the computer... I know the words are not exactly right but it will explain my question : hunshen are half men half beasts Is there any dark-hunshen (or other word) tribes : half trolls half beasts ? I m not talking about some individual who gained this situation (or were cursed) but people, like rathori, etc.. or are human the only - type for hunshen ? by the way, I noticed somewhere (or I believe) than brithini consider themselves as the true humans. Does that mean that they say that all the other human people are descendent of hunshen ? I m interested by two answers : canon and personal theory, just tell me what you answer. thanks gentle people !
  17. @davecake I agree a lot with you post. Just two differences: A disagreement No ๐Ÿ™‚ An addition hero level rules will not be enough to determine how Harreck or Jar-Eel can be defeated there are the rules, but there are the description of Harreck's skills, powers and abilities too What are the weakness of Harreck ? Can we say if yes or not he resists this magic and not this one ? maybe the bear skin protects him from some magic ? so "just" steal the skin, and now you have a strategy. But... what if it is not the skin ? Does Jar-Eel sleep ? What is the radius of her passive powers ? How can resist a pc in the same situation than beat pot ? these few questions answer @EpicureanDM question : you will not have a satisfying answer to your own interrogation: it depends on what powers you give to your big boss. Steal is an option if the skin is powerful, not if only Harreck soul is powerful. Without "canon" answers, the best strategy is so depending on the gm's definition of the big boss than there is no good strategy. You can obtain idea, great ideat, but ridiculous (for your game style) too. For sure if a GM consider that Jar-Eel power is 20, without any external protection, a good idea would be to discoporate and challenge her, or even to use some deadly humakti power... But if just approaching her (spirit plan or mundane one) at less than 100meters put you in some area of nysalor illumination / harmony peace or i don't know what that is not the same ๐Ÿ™‚
  18. Yes that is another question however mass battle and mass magic how does it work ? well priority to hq rules then mass rules ๐Ÿ˜›
  19. If I remember, hundred of wind lords souls were lost for that. They were not only killed (aka welcome in Orlanth Hall) they were destroyed. and for me the x000% of the bat shows that: you cannot destroy the bat with a weapon. You must do other things, killing the priests (and the "monsters" on its body), using some magic or maybe "just" sacrifice people My dumb theory : 18 POW * hundred rune lords were "eaten" by the bat.. the bat may be defeated by indigestion not by any successful action of orlanthi
  20. I have no idea (or too many). Shouldn't this be asqued in the Q&A topic ? my first answer was "of course not" then "why not" then... "of course not downward". but what about a griffin attacking a group on a esrolian road from the sky ? so "of course yes" at the end, if there is no official answer... MGF: so yes it detects, and depending on what the GM wants... If the GM wants pc to be prepared, it is as usual, if not put fast ennemies... 100 meters with mobility 10 = "ding ding you feel an ambush, oups, it is done" (that works on air as under water) water is monstruous after all (yes irl I fear water)
  21. same for me, with the exception of water and other things like that : once the spell ends, the water is water, the air is air not for me I am not a smith but what I understand irl is you use hammer and heat to "transform" at a molecular level iron / steel and then give it some abilities. How could you "transform" death metal in glorantha ?
  22. it is interesting to see how the fun may vary. I love that there are some entities in the background that pc cannot do more than only survive if they face them. of course after a lot of research, bargain with greater entities, negociation with clan/tribe ring, sacrifice of village or nation, etc... that could be nice to defeat a god but in this case, it is, for me, more a campaing than just a fight I would be frustrated if I were able to kill a true dragon (or even Harreck), just because I have enough spells and 100,200 or even 1000 xp checks. But so "proud" to defeat her because my group obtain the sacred weapon from the hight priest of JuJu - the only option to cut the golden fern in genert garden-, succeed to create a cult for some forgotten god after 10 years of efforts, decided to send one hundred warriors -why not with one or two pcs - to certain death, accepted that ... then at the end dismiss a star. (that is not a true story, just example) our rules may vary, our fun may vary our glorantha may vary
  23. for sure ! but without guidance that is a door open for too much possibilities What is the bump ? +10% ? +30%? without any limit ? or just gain 90% in the skill (like cult's gift) etc... if there is no guidance some will follow a way, other another one, and we face the original issue : a table / GM is not confortable with some JC publication (or another table / GM) just because the bumps are different. Personaly, I have no issue to invent "bump" aligned (same level of) with the humakt/yelmalio/shaman gifts But is it the "standard" level for anything ? that is the same with mp : some will give extra mp at very high level: the rules give a little cost to obtain matrix/enchant from npc. Some will give 60mp (or other enchant)to a pc when other will consider that obtaining 10extra mp is already a great gain. I know that is MGF. But that is exactly what happened in @EpicureanDM and this post origin: if the material proposed (jc, answer in this forum, etc...) is not aligned with your own interpretation of the rule, you may be lost. I was lost 20years (?) ago with heroquesting background before I found the great @soltakss website. It helped me a lot (Simon was the first, great thank for that) to understand heroquest in glorantha but I spent a lot of time to realize that the new issue I faced with his gain (and associate super critical rules) was not my understanding of the mechanics but just that @soltakss's MGF is not mine MGF (and that's fine, no issue). I may be wrong, I hope I am wrong, but my fear is that too many people may try runequest, face some issue because there is a wide range of interpretation and then feeling they are "lost", decide to stop with runequest and go to other rpg, less rich, but simpler and more conforting. I want chaosium to have more and more customers, to gain more and more money. Because I m selfish. More money for chaosium = more background publication (and maybe some rules too) = more material, faster, for me. More dream and pleasure for me. I want to feel again the intellecutal "erotocomatose lucidity" reading new material . Not in ten years. Now ! ๐Ÿ˜› Well, I get a little carried away... maybe. I have some excuse... after all I m an old french desperate but passionate windchild. Having an air rune at 100% is difficult to live
