  1. oh I see so to rewrite with my words ( sorry you are breaking all my cult system model ^^ ), there would be, in the Orlanth cult, two types of subcults : those who are "mask" (?) of Orlanth (Rex, Adventurous, Thunder, Vinga) as described in page 301 section Orlanth. They gain the full "special rune magics (all subcults)" and those who are very closed deities (Yinkin, Odayla, Barntar, maybe those "awaken" in the eleven lights, etc..) and are worshipped in the Orlanth temples, but as they are not Orlanth but its kin, they don't gain the full "special rune magics (all subcults)" but only the Orlanth's spell provided by the association. In this way, does that mean a Orlanth Priest consider them in the same way than any Orlanth initiate ? or are they little bit different and the Orlanth priest has less power on a Yinkini / Odaylan than on a Adventurous ?
  2. to be sure I m understanding correctly -there may be some subtility I did not catch- : Does that mean that the Odayla subcult of Orlanth proposes all the spells provided by the Odayla full cult AND the common spells provided by the Orlanth cult (dimiss air elm, increase/decrease wind, etc...) In that case is there any secret the full cult has that the orlanth subcult does'nt ? or is it "just" that the Odayla cult lost its conexion with Orlanth so is "worse" than the Orlanth-Odayla subult? I have in mind that a subcult has less spells than a full cult (because not fully dedicated to the "entity/god", some ) but, in the other hand, gains some benefit/spells from its "parent cult". But I may be totally wrong ?
  3. I would suggest to compare the bonus you provide with a bladesharp spell do you consider that passion provides once a day / week bladesharp 2/3/4 during a full scene is enough, too much or too little ? Personally I consider that a true passion would give more than a 6 points spell but only if the situation fits really and directly the passion But that should be seen in a bigger perspective (I give less crystal / matrix / spirits than others I think )
  4. none of them are Argrath, they are "just" characters and yep you see the wheel note the baby is a giant the wheel seels to be human size but I m not sure
  5. Then here I fully agree ! Not because « « casting a sorcery spell » (of course a sorcerer cast sorcery spell, that is the definition ) but because you add the right words « if done for the right reasons » that is what I needed to agree: the sorcery is the tool, the right reasons are the intent so let back to your example a humakti training traitors, murderers, and knowing it, should have a very very good and honorable reason to let me accept the piety of this act 🙂 By the way, even if a lot of sorcerers are not pious as Jeff described, that doesn’t mean you cannot meet a pious / devoted to the invisible god and Malkioni precepts sorcerer. they seems rarer than what I believed but they should be found too 🙂
  6. That why players choose yelmalio as first cult ! No more issue i didn’t imagine such option. but now… mmm some ideas mmmm some very very nice ideas. Uleria, nous voilà !
  7. There are two points I strongly (but nicely 🙂 ) disagree with @JRE 1) allied spirit is not the part of soul provided to theist. By game design allied spirit is a kind of pow extension as fetch is a kind of pow extension for shaman, that’s true. But that is game design, not background design: allied spirit is an ally, not yourself, from my perspective of course 2) sorcery is not proof of piety. Yes piety can be found in any religious/philosophical/(put your word I don’t know in English) movement. But sorcery is a set of technics, a tool. How you use your tool prove if you are pious or not : a humakti uses a sword However are humakti ambushing weak people with their swords pious humakti ? I don’t think so. same for sorcery user of any school. You can be a pious malkioni without casting any sorcery (maybe not if your role is to cast spell of course) you can be a not pious malkioni and cast sorcery. Not only by casting forbidden spells but for example acting against your Talar orders. and as @soltakss said what is piety for some people is heresy for others
  8. Same for me ibdibt consider the bonus important enough But it will depends how the passions are played. If it is just a bonus and not something driving the character (or to be clear, if you don’t lose passion every time you act against your passion) yes it is too much if I had something to change with passion it would be to define a scale between passion score, passion bonus , what you can do against passion / when you can stay passive without any consequence I mean if you have 90+ you must do thing even if it is not smart (like honor accept the duel even if you know your opponent is too powerful) if you have60, you must not do thing even if it is smart (like honor do not ambush even if it is easier) on this way I like how the vampire rpg manage « humanity » 20 years ago I don’t know now
  9. I agree with you @svenssonthat leaving a cult should bring some issues. I fully agree too that a hero must suffer and suffer and suffer. Because no pain, no gain. And sometimes… pain but no gain however we may find some couple of deities where the retribution is avoided because the deities are associated (big example ernalda - xxx gor) Because there is some peaceful relationship between the gods (I have in mind Issaries and his daughter Etyries) or because the second god was able to emancipate the first one. That is, for me, the humakt to Yanafal change the YT cult should have some secret that helps candidate to not suffer humakt revenge. That could be in rule game defined as: gift: no humakt retribution geas: use only curved weapon However, like illumination, this kind of secret help the initiate « against » the god. But worshippers are not god, they are not impacted by your illumination or any divine protection (of course you may find some forgive-me-my-old-friends abilities…) so you may meet your ex comrades and have to manage their frustrations (I don’t say that all humakti will be hostile, just the gods are not the worshippers)
  10. That is something I don’t understand why would be the earth shaker temple so hostile with everybody ? i understand people who fear the earth-death cultists as they can fear any death-god cultist (if you are not kind, they will take you) but they are not killing anyone on sight ?
  11. Mmm sorcery is manipulation of the nature / runes / powers sorcery is not malkionism sorcery is a logical use of the world to obtain expected effect by yourself but a good use of sorcery, by the right people named by your prophet, is piety (my opinion of course)
  12. I think this point very important and maybe not enough highlighted by the books. Maybe homelands books would propose something about what status means in the different cultures
  13. You have the white bull youtube campaign )sorry don’t remember the episode, season 2 I think that is my personal best source
  14. Yes they did but is elder secrets aligned with rqg ?
  15. in addition some weird/secret subcult or sub-subcult of known cults could request same hard event for example if you find odayla should have sandals of darknes (I don’t know why I think about this ….) why not add this test : the man find the bear during the night, so in a cave so in full darkness bla-bla-bla so big fear so pow roll so if critical yes you may sacrifice pow for this spell. Or why not giving the same opportunity to negate some taboos (still if critical) Like some fire magic for some light god. Of course the initiate will have some issue with the regular worshippers who will see it as blasphemy… but then it is a « our glorantha may vary » taste
  16. If you start the campaign with pc already initiates I would just ask them to describe, if they want, what happened (maybe some hooks for later) then there are initiation during play. there are from my perspective two types of initiations : gods we all know and secret societies for gods we all know (aka pc included) I would build with them the ceremony and maybe add an accident when a roll fails for secret societies yes it is probably terrifying and you must « die » (at least like irl initiations, but… maybe « really ») to come back with your secret knowledge/ transformation Note that and / or known cults would have probably some desperate or suffering or raging experience. Despair could be only facing other suffering or what you will loss or what you fear (pow roll to possibly trigger some event) suffering as you described @Shiningbrow yes con roll could be fine Rage will let you face some enemy (yours or your people) doing bad things. I would say like despair, pow roll) in all cases, from my perspective, these rolls should not decide if yes or no they are initiates (cult’s description shows you what is mandatory ) but more some additional point (critical may offer you gift, fumble some geas,… maybe some new passion hate/fear/ etc…)
  17. The big issue I see with control beast for the great hunt is the « there is no effort » to win ( « just » find your target ) i think , if you want to bring back the beast alive, you must cast the spell or another one (or a very good and specific idea of course) but not only i would say you are not any more in the mundane world (or if you stay, you will not win) so you may have some challenges, during the search and during the capture. I never run a great hunt but probably after some encounters and difficulties to find the prey, I would manage a fight or something before the hunter can cast the spell. That would explain why a living prey is better than a dead one: some fail to capture the beast and kill it when it is so easy to cast and extend the spell Able to speak and magical is better than magical 😜
  18. Yep you are showing me how old I am 😭 there was crystal for sorcery in the past and no alchemy (in my FR oriflam version at least) And I did not understand why there was sorcery crystal… but now, with some alchemy + sorcery spell/enchant, I would like (official or house rule) to alter some divine material and transform it into raw…rune… sorcery material
  19. Continue like this… and we will find that odayla and LM are associated : LM provides enhance INT to odaylan and Odayla provide bear’s Transformation to the scholars 😉
  20. A lot of options : crystals, heroquest abilities (like shaman) raising your INT/MAX INT, or adding « free » Intensity (or duration or range) … worshippers / magicians union when/if we will one day have rules about « community ceremonies spells » and as others said enchantment strategies. After all if sorcerers have some weird circles/ gears / towers ther should be a reason !
  21. Don’t joke too much i just understood imho few weeks ago and I had absolutely no idea what iirc meant too (and some other ur-runes some of you use 😝) @soltakssraised the big issue, google is not a friend to understand such points just to be sure IMG = in my glorantha ?
  22. yes, the main point is the damage bonus. And if this DB is high enough to overkill an opponent, don't try to do anything more (just my advice) However, @Darius West answer is interesting I would just add one point : - a STR restriction. with the same rule than x2 SIZ = new dice, the needed STR would be increased: x2 SIZ = x2 STR. a weak giant is big but... weak Aa any good french lover knows (adult only) And I support a lot Darius point about availability. Of course a very very big giant would be able to use a mountain as weapon but... a standard one would be limited by the trees and other material he can find
  23. because a staff is normal for a Issaries priest ? a mouse can be eaten by a cat, a rhino will be focused by ennemy, etc... hidden power is good when you negociate
