Horses and Ponies

Recommended Posts

Can anyone tell me if there is an 'official' write up for a pony in any Chaosium BRP product?

I have official stats for a riding horse and war horse but just need a pony.

If someone wouldn't mind posting the stats if the know of some official ones I would be eternally grateful. Otherwise, I'll make my own.

I had not intended to post again, but if I can be of service...yes, in Stormbringer 1, barbarian ponies.

As regular horse, subtract 6 from STR and SIZ ratings.

Your too good to me Badcat.

A 1d10 bite? Are these Cimmerian ponies? With sabretooth fangs? I must remember to have my BRP character train a herd of those things, and unleash them upon my enemies.

I'll train one of them to count the number of dead too, so not all of them are a one trick pony...

Blackmane equs, from Talislanta.

Also known as every Xambrian player's dream-mount. A broody character wants for a broody mount.

On another note, winged aht-ra! Seriously, what's funnier than a flying, reptilian camel?

Speaking as someone who came within an ace of losing two fingers to a horse's bite I can believe that there should be a big number there. Actually getting their evil, oversized chompers to bear on a foe though might be tricky; hence I suspect the low skill%

I was thinking this was the new title proposal for Chaos & Catacombs.

I mean, how evocative is "Horses & Ponies?"

Extremely. It just evokes the wrong impression for a spoof of D&D. My daughters (avid RPers) would play a game called "Horses & Ponies", provided it delivered on the promise of the title. :D

Semi-seriously, I found Pendragon's lists of wild and domestic animals to be extremely useful and (mostly) BRP compatible. After playing Pendragon for the first time in the mid 1980's, "horse" just never seemed specific enough.

I wonder if this is starting to be ...

An article in an old White Dwarf gave RQ stats for a dozen or so breeds. And I'm sure I saw a similar piece on the net a while back. They're not 'official', but I could probably unearth them if you think they might be useful...?

Britain has been infiltrated by soviet agents to the highest levels. They control the BBC, the main political party leaderships, NHS & local council executives, much of the police, most newspapers and the utility companies. Of course the EU is theirs, through-and-through. And they are among us - a pervasive evil, like Stasi.

I wonder if there would be interest ito be worth doing up a bunch of horse stats by type/breed? Or would that just be going into too much detail for most BRPers?

I'll take all the stats I can get, even if I might never make full use of them. Better to have and not need, than need and not have, right? :)

Thats my feelings. Plus, one of my players is a horse owner and a little more detail would make her happy.

(*) These are some famous breeds rarely if ever found in central Genertela but widely reputed or otherwise worthy of notes. Some very powerful characters might display their status by riding such expensive mounts. The prices are given for their region of origin, don’t hesitate to extract twice or thrice that amount from your players if they think their status can’t suffer an humbler mount

I also remember seeing somewhere a table to give horses personality (e.g. "chews fences"), but I've no idea now where that was from.

I'm not sure about a table, but there's lots of horse personality stuff in the GURPS horse rules here:

The Noble Steed: Character Design Rules for Horses

Especially under "Odious Personal Habits" (including fence chewing).

You're welcome. Celhan's "Noble Steed" stuff is great, too (I particularly like "Bloating"). The "Horses & Ponies RPG" can't be far off now! ;)
