This weeks page range is page 260 up to and including page 291. 4. I've a rewrite in the pipeline that brings it up to HQG. It becomes the Storm tradition with some of societies crossing into the Earth tradition. Look at the Pavis tradition for the best examples of crossover in Pavis GtA.
  5. I totally agree. Previously RuneMasters for RQ2 filled this niche. I think Rune Levels at beginner, established, advanced and Hero could be covered within cult writeups, but given a basic primary skill range. I'd want to avoid slavish npc generation and just give ranges. I always liked the treasure factor system and feel it could be adapted to kit out npcs. This could always be supplemented with a previous experience system. as for community power donations - that's for role play and something similar to convincing the examiners. For something within the purview of the cult, always for a rune level, less for an initiate, never for lay. The depends, should be replaced by yes but...
  6. The Lunar Moon has no water powers, except through the young elementals. Not an oversight.
  7. I run a weekly RPG club (nearly 30 years old), we have three groups running at once, changing games every six weeks. Nearly every GM runs games as written. We even have GMs getting together to change up to the same rules set to avoid confusion - most recently with L5R all the GMs are now on the latest edition. The exceptions are far and few, mostly own worlds with established house ruled systems to fit and they are certainly a minority. Myself - even with RQ3 I had only two add ons from the RQ4 AIG rules set (fatigue and sorcery fix). When RQG comes out, RQ2 and 3 will go back in the cupboard (I never bothered with Mongoose or DM's versions). The integration of the runes and passions make it worth while for me. I am at times quite bewildered by the level of tinkering discussed on this site and I'm sure I will never really understand it.
  8. I just had my shipping payment taken here in the UK so it's all looking promising.
  9. Well it was Greg's first exploration of Glorantha, likely drawing on what he knew without thinking of the audience 50 years later.
  10. Northern Fronela section discussion here! Don't forget Colin Driver's epic maps and the artwork. https://basicroleplaying.org/topic/6694-guide-to-glorantha-group-read-week-10/ https://basicroleplaying.org/topic/6695-guide-to-glorantha-group-read-week-10-deep-discussion/ https://basicroleplaying.org/topic/6663-guide-to-glorantha-group-read-week-10-errors/

That would have been difficult until I said why don't we use Greg's map. The reply was of course - there isn't one. I said - But I have one from Greg - don't you have it? It transpires that over the years Greg has communicated / worked with dozens of people. If we're lucky you have a piece of Glorantha that's been lost. Here's the copy of an overlay to one of Greg's maps that I had. Colin had to correct it to fit with the accurate Guide maps.

  16. Due to yesterday's Bank Holiday in England, I'll put up the threads later today (as I thought today was Monday :-)
  17. It's a direct quote from the "script" on page 39:
  18. I agree it would seem so. However underlying this would be a strategy laid down in the mythology of the Great Darkness to survive. You have to have the ability (magical or not) to do it so there would be a mythological reason for it. Good try though
  19. It seems it's possible, but I've never had to do it for any of my clients. It's worth it to play around with the game parts. Good luck. Perhaps you might want to post your success if you manage it here to inspire others.
  20. I agree. If it were limiting, elf and troll shamanism would have likely died out as a practice. In game terms there would be no limit. HeroQuest Glorantha would expect most of the plant spirits to be tied to the plant rune, however a shaman of elf and troll traditions would have access to a massive range of runes from the spirit societies in the pantheon. The plant rune is a form as is the spirit rune. As long as the origin of the spirit was plant based there would be no problem. There will always be specialist societies that deal with the unusual runes. e.g. illusion spirits from hallucinogenic pollen spirits, mastery spirits from High King Elf, etc. RQG will likely work the same.
  21. Rather than starting random animal listings, firstly there's two types of hibernating animals - obligates and facultative. Facultive is the easiest to start with as they do it as there isn't enough food to get through Dark season or it gets too cold to survive or both - so it's prepare, hibernate or die. Obligate hibernators automatically do it regardless of food supply or temperature. These are likely linked to some preparatory event related to their progenitor before the Great Darkness who hid somewhere safe and missed the whole End of the World. Either way both types wake up after sacred time. Perhaps some sleep through Storm season as well. It's also normal animal types as well not just the intelligent sorts.
  22. Yes, hibernation is a thing. As to why it happen in Glorantha is up for speculation. My take is that the sleeping ones enter the spirit world and continue their life there - Like going back to the Green Age, but that didn't exist for the spirit world as separation hadn't yet happened. So it's the spirit world version of the Green Age had it existed. I believe it's somehow linked to the Goddesses Dream when all the Goddesses went to the Underworld with Yelm, sleeping not dead. In my Glorantha that's where they all go - the Goddesses Dream. Why they have to hibernate and go there is a matter for God Learner speculation of the intense kind only found in these forums.
  23. Now don't forget to get your copy of VASSAL! Because you now have the Nomad Gods rules set - you can now play the game! There are VASSAL two modules of interest to Glorantha fans: http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Nomad_Gods You'll need the software as well as the module: http://www.vassalengine.org/index.php What is Vassal? Vassal is a game engine for building and playing online adaptations of board games and card games. Play live on the Internet or by email. Vassal runs on all platforms, and is free, open-source software. Don't forget, with VASSAL you can look at the other Gloranthan board game, sadly no rules rerelease yet. http://www.vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Dragon_Pass
  24. @GamingGlen, @styopa and @Joerg were asking / talking about the "new" sorcery. Sorcery is very straight forward and is based around the Xeotam dialogues (as HQG's sorcery is). So it uses the techniques of: Command, Combine, Separate, Summon, Dismiss, and Tap. http://www.glorantha.com/for-understanding-the-malkioni-approach-to-sorcery-runes-and-gods-the-xeotam-dialogues-written-by/ --- A sorcerer starts by mastering one Rune and one technique. Minimum INT is 13 to understand one Rune and one technique. More INT lets you master more. Mastering further Runes and techniques is a test and costs a point of POW for each one. You have either mastered a rune or technique or not, These aren't skills. You manipulate spells using free INT (INT minus spirit magic points and spells known in memory) and Intensity, Strength, Range and Duration - there's a table for each. Spells MP cost = runes + techniques + each point of manipulation above 1 plus what ever extra you want. --- Spells are made up from Runes and Techniques Used, Minimum Magic Points, Casting Range, Type, Duration, Spell Description and other notes. Each sorcery spell is a skill. You can increase casting chance using Meditation or Ritual practices or of course augmenting.
