  1. Brief reminder - pack of Ravens is still called a "murder".
  2. Laudanum would be least of it. More like the dreaded black lotus. Narcosa.
  3. Yes, it's an awesome character. The game / campaign is looking to be weird fantasy using the CoC Dreamlands map (but not necessarily the canon that goes with it). I'll probably throw in some AS&SH stuff, Narcosa, and possibly even some Red & Pleasant Land.
  4. ... and I will teach you to read your calendar, Mr. Monroe. Yes, we are playing on the 8th. I am teaching you the meaning of "confusion" as well. To compound matters, I have purchased used copies of Magic World and Advanced Sorcery and have treated them most shabbily indeed, by having them bound into a single, stay-flat spiral book. Ha! I may further mar it by highlighting or underlining words and/or phrases, and possibly tabbing pages as well. Then, on the 8th, I shall not only use such physically altered copy in front of you, but I shall also metaphysically alter the MW rules ... as I see fit.
  5. Bah. Most importantly, I have Mr. Zomben returning to my lair for another game of MagicWorld this Sunday, and I shall once again teach him the meaning of the word respect. I will quite possibly make him eat tasty, vaguely healthy snacks and expensive imported ale ... while I do horrible, horrible, science-fantasy weird-y things to his beloved ruleset. By the gods, I will teach that arrogant man to respect his betters. Or bitters. Or something. Something.
  6. Really enjoying reading this one, in its final, hardback state.
  7. I like the "hard reset" for them session-to-session. I need to think about whether 2 (plus ability to earn some in session) would be sufficient enough to get some of the results mentioned above (esp. the pulp-y stuff).
  8. I'm thinking I'd set it at an arbitrary number across the board, rather than tie them to a PC's stat. I might start with 5 and see how it goes, letting players earn the, through cool stuff or possibly even award them to one another if they do something they like ("fan mail").
  9. Good stuff. I think I'll likely drop the Total Hit Points (but go with HP 0 = out and not dead) and play around with the Hero Point / Action Point options. I'm not much of a fan of the BRP Fate Point / Power Point spend, but I may be able to pull some ideas there.
  10. Heh. I'm looking to tune OQ2 to the tastes of a specific group. Specifically, they like high fantasy, getting into trouble, but really don't deal with PC death (or tactics ...) well. Avoiding the commentary of helping them to grow / learn otherwise ... tweaks I'm considering to OQ in rolling out a new campaign include: Total Hit Points. Suggested to me a few times by my good friend Ben. PC (and major NPC) hit points at the total of CON + SIZ. Hero Points. Upgrading the OQ Hero Points to include some of the ideas from Astounding Adventures. The main tweak is allowing avoidance of death by returning next scene (or as appropriate) at 1/2 hit points. Also, increasing the number of Hero Points from 2 (with limited burn) to maybe 4 - 5 (refreshed each game). Luck Roll. Adding the old BRP Luck Roll at POW x 5. Enabled for PC proactive use via Hero Points (use Luck roll in place of a Skill check for one). Major Wounds. I'm still undecided on this - with Total Hit Points, it becomes less threatening, while still adding punch and danger to the combat sequences. Other thoughts or ideas? Many thanks!
  11. After a few years of having Ben Monroe recommend it, I just picked up a copy of CF (Half Price Books) and reading over coffee. I can see how I might use it. Best line: "Sure, I worked on them for months and months, but whatever." Nearly snorted my coffee ...
  12. Quite nice, and thanks for sharing. I dig the module approach. It would be super easy for a GM to come up with a few corporations and models to work player options on price and effectiveness.
  13. I'm reading Swords of Cydoria right now! I picked up a print copy from Chaosium a handful of minutes ago at their booth at DundraCon. Really enjoying my skim through right now.
  14. Thanks for the update / information, Mr. Newt. The author probably isn't the only one to get burned out on gaming from time to time. Actually, given the topics for The Company and supplement, I could see someone needing a break. It's quite close to current affairs after all. Thanks!
  15. I'll inquire with a bump and ask if this very nifty supplement is still on the drawing board ... ?
  16. I had a copy of DQ (SPI) as a teen, and re ought one the other year. While it uses %, it's not related to the BRP family. The magic & system of colleges and demons are unique, I think, so a cheap copy might be mineable.
  17. I was being a bit coy ... I was pretty sure they were all new in RQ history. But I like.
  18. I kinda enjoyed the alt cults from Monster Island. I don't recall seeing them in previous RQ materials.
  19. My soft cover was waiting in the mail today when I stepped out to head to Tai Chi practice. It was a challenge not to flip through it, be late, or think about it during practice.
  20. Happened to spot a copy at one of the flags today during lunch, and treated myself to one.
  21. Bummer - players just called to cancel de to sickness. They're a couple (and generally host our game) so Our third player was also sick as of last night ... I was hoping to go on with 2, but can't with, ah, zero ...
  22. I'm looking forward to this monograph. I've had the privilege to read and test some of Richard's other MW Sountern Reaches material. He's got a great grasp of the feel of the setting and has great ideas. Totally looking forward to it.
  23. Gosh, it would be nifty if there were some more Magic World NPC and reference sheets to match the character sheet from the book. I'm prepping for my session using the BRP Gold Book sheets ... but it would be nice to have unique ones to the game. Also, anyone gotten a PDF of the Magic World ship sheet from the book?
  24. The third session is this afternoon - I'm quite looking forward to it. Reading through some material on Shillingshead over coffee to prepare.
  25. Looks really good - I like the cover, and the preview. For clarity: is the PDF already "done" - that is, the preorder consists of receiving the PDF more-or-less now, and the book to be shipped when printed? Or, are both PDF and book going to be released together in June? Thanks!
